Kid Reviews: L'il G-Girl's Reviews For 12/6/09

How do these "kid" comics rate from an actual kid?

Hi everyone, I'm back again.  Me and my dad, G-Man, read some more comics this week.  He told me that you guys really liked my reviews so here's some more we did.

First we read X-Babies #1, 2 and 3.  This review is for X-Babies #3.  I really really like the cover.  Daddy says it's drawn by the same man that draws the Wizard of Oz comics.  The little Wolverine is so cute.

I thought it was funny the way Rogue talked.  When my dad read her parts, he said he was making her talk from the South.  There was this cute dog named Top Dog.  Dad says he had his own comic before but never read it.  He's really smart and has funny things in his backpack like toothpaste and a Pez thing.

It's also really funny when Wolverine keeps saying "Snikt" before making his claws come out.  He seems a little grumpy sometimes since he's always fighting with Cyclops but he still looks cute.

I didn't like the other little X-Babies that were fighting the real X-Babies.  They were kinda mean.  I really want to read the next issue.  I like saying the word my dad uses, "Sniktitude."  I don't think mom really likes me yelling it.  I give this comic a 5 out of 5 because it was really cool and funny.

Words I Learned:  counterfeit, benevolently, sovereign, protocol.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next we read Donald Duck And Friends #348.  It's cool because Donald Duck is a secret agent.  He found out in the last issue that he was one.  I really liked the way the colors look here.  They look really nice.  I didn't like when Donald was holding a really big gun but it's okay 'cause he doesn't really use it.  It just looks a little strange.  It's also really pretty in Duckberg Park.  There's lots of trees and grass.

I was a little confused when they said Daisy Duck's name.  Daddy told me that she doesn't know Donald's a secret agent but I thought she had superpowers.  Daddy explained that that was only in another comic book story [ Walt Disney Comics And Stories #700].  I also wondered how Donald could be a real duck, and a secret agent and a superhero and a sorcerer [ Mickey Mouse And Friends #297].  Dad just says they're different stories and not the same.

This comic gets a 4 out of 5.  It was good and pretty but I want to see more of Donald's friends.

Words I Learned: instinct, classified, enlightening, jurisdiction, astute, mercenary, encrypted, analytic, recon.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The last one we read was Looney Tunes #181.  I sometimes get to watch them on TV.

It was good that there was four stories here but one was really short.  Only two pages!  I liked the bumbebees from the bumblebee planet.  There were so cute.

I didn't like all the commercials.  Dad calls them "ads."  The Donald Duck comic didn't have any until the end.  It was cool that we had a lot of space stories with Duck Dodgers.  Daffy is really silly sometimes and Marvin the Martian is funny.  The stories were almost as good as the cartoons but a little less funny.

I only give this one a 3.5 out of 5.

Words I Learned: duplication, sweat shop, résumé, campaign, bribery, annihilation, reconstitute, incapacitate, caterwauling.

Maybe I'll do some more of these next week.  Bye everybody!

Holy smokes, Li'l G-Girl has got to be the youngest member of Staff on CV!

Another batch of nice reviews!  I'm impressed by the words you're learning... it proves that comics can still teach us new stuff all the time :)

I pay her in free comic books.  She gets to keep the ones she reviews.  Don't tell the Labor Unions.

Can't wait to use caterwauling! Thanks G-Girl.

 Dad calls them "ads."

ha! G-Man and his revolutionary ideas :P

I love Looney Tunes though (the cartoon), even if it doesn't have as much humor -since the voices are a big part of the fun- I think I'll read this Looney Tunes issue, especially if it has Marvin the Martian, he was always my favorite :D

Thanks for the reviews, they were very...enlightening

(See that, I can use new words too!)

Sniktitude: adjective; when describing a person or thing that has a Wolverine motif. A person or thing that generally acts brutish, crude, mildly morbid, and often sucome to frequent outbursts of rage.
ex."Wow, that man has real sniktitude!"

Very good job! We want to hear more. =]

These are just such a nice idea. I doubt many in her age group peruse the site, but this is perfect for a parent who is looking for something for their kids. It's also just such a relief to know that there are parents who are still willing to read to and with their children in place of planting them in front of the TV.

The touch that I really adore to these reviews that I never would of thought of adding this concept is the "Words Learned". I applaud who ever decided to include that part.

@xerox-kitty:
Something I noticed in G-Man's explanation. That he paid her in free comics. Doesn't that imply that he was making her pay for her comics before hand? lol

Nice review L'il G-Girl. The only ads I liked growing up were the Hostess ads for their twinkies and cupcakes.

Looks like a good selection of books. The X-Babies are one of my favorites. Its cool to see characters like Donald and Daffy still in comics. Brings back some good memories.

you don't suspect G-Man hinted very much that it deserves a 5 out of 5 seeing as that's what he gave it on his own review?

Lil G-Girl seems smart enough as to have her own opinion about comics....
and G-Man seems like the dad who wouldn't impose his own ideas over her daughter!

@aztek the lost: Did you see what she gave to two issues of Chris Giarrusso's G-Man: Cape Crisis?  I would've rated them higher.  She really digs the Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon and really liked seeing Little Wolvie's "Sniktitude."

@sora_thekey:
You are correct.  I don't try to force my interests/ideas on her.  I introduce her to them and let her decide on her own.

I actually did think you would have rated those two higher but maybe she watches your reviews and felt inspired? idk, I suppose she doesn't actually roam around here...

either way, I pay more attention to what is said on the content then the overall rating, opinions on what different ratings mean varies

and I'm sure if you tried to force all your comic interests on her, G-Woman would have something to say :P

yeah, I thought that was pretty cool too! I've never been one to look up new words and find out what they mean when I read them so I never really expand my vocabulary, I just think I have the definition and then go on to the next word

The Sadhu approves of this article... good review Lil G-Girl!

"He's really smart and has funny things in his backpack like toothpaste and a Pez thing. "

Huzzah! I my name made a review!

Anywho, I'm digging these reviews. Using comics as a way of teaching is amazing. If L'il G keeps these reviews coming, she could give Babs a run for her money.

@Pez85: That's funny...I won't specify which part.

Here's the "Pez thing" she was talking about though.  It was a Spider-Man Pez dispenser.  You'll also notice either a hockey mask or a Jason Voorhees mask.

@G-Man: i can tell in your comments that your very proud of her. i think we all are. shes very detailed in her reasons for liking/disliking things.
 Eventually, you both should write up a guide on how to get kids into comics. I work with kids, and the only ones i can get to read ANY comics are the ones who already do.
 Great work. Keep these up. Their a cool reminder that all of us fanboys and girls started out as kids thinking comics where cool.

I was thinking the same thing. Good review, G-Girl.
I wonder if she'll be on a podcast or something. That'd be cool.
