Over on Kickstarter, Jean Michel has an interesting new product which will connect industry professionals with each other. The Trade is a new Kickstarter which not only connects professionals within the industry, but they will also be able to promote and sell their work.
On top of that, the site will also be open to businesses, such as retailers and publishers and fans who can buy their favorite creators books or share them with friends.
Above is an example of what a creator's page will look like. The Kickstarter explains that professionals aren't just the big names in the industry and there needs to be a way to connect more people together, in order to make great ideas become great art.
For comic book professionals, unless they are one of the few well-known names (like Fraction, Simone, Bendis, Kirkman), then it is very likely they are wondering when and where (and possibly if) their next paying gig is going to come along. Most of them don’t have the comfort of having an agent to do the legwork for them or the money and know-how to create an effective online presence.
There are lots of different levels of pledging and ways you can get involved in The Trade. You can pledge as much as $5 or move on up for higher rewards, including a commission from either Tim Sale or friend of Comic Vine Dennis Calero. Here's the Kickstarter video explaining it all.
