JUSTICE LEAGUE UNITED Launches in April

JUSTICE LEAGUE CANADA gets a new name, but it's still the same book.

Mike McKone variant cover

Writer Jeff Lemire announced on his blog today that his new book, JUSTICE LEAGUE UNITED will be hitting store shelves this April. Lemire, along with artist Mike McKone, were originally slated to turn JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA into JUSTICE LEAGUE CANADA, but after some talk with DC, they all agreed that just changing the title to "Canada" may be a little limiting, so they're starting a whole new series instead This still means that JLA will be ending in April.

As a result, JLA will be ending in April and my book will become a brand new ongoing series called JUSTICE LEAGUE UNITED! Justice League United will launch in April with an extra-sized Zero Issue followed by #1 in May. And the first storyline will be titled: Justice League Canada. The team will still be based in Canada and the book will still introduce a brand new First Nations Canadian superhero to the DC Universe. More details on this new character, her origin and her powers, will be released in the weeks to come.

The team will have their headquarters in Moosonee, Ontario and will be made up of these members: Animal Man, Green Arrow, Stargirl, Martian Manhunter, Alanna Strange, and Hawkman.

So make sure, this April, to check out the newest DC on-going series, JUSTICE LEAGUE UNITED!

What do you guys think about this new series and the name change?

This will be interesting but i wonder if this will be one team and Young Justice will be the other

Hahahahaha I would buy the s**t out of a Justice League Canada book! Please for the love of all that is comics, make them have their meetings at a Tim Horton's.

So is Manhunter ditching the JL of A or is he splitting his time? Anyone hear anything about that.

I'll check out the first issue but the roster doesn't do a whole lot for me.

Cool, is that Adam Strange?

Posted by Twentyfive

Holy cow. Awesome cover. MMH looks cool, and I'm glad Stargirl is still around. And of course, I'm happy Supergirl is on the team. The more books she's in, the happier I am. Also, Adam Strange is looking way too cool on that cover.

This looks cool and secondly I had know idea that Jeff Lemire himself is Canadian.

Not to be "that guy," but there's an awful lot of white people in that image... :\

Otherwise, very happy to see Adam Strange finally, and Supergirl in a team book is probably a pretty good idea.

When I first glanced at the cover, my eyes went right to the chimp, so I thought it was one of the team members. I was a bit disappointed when I noticed all the other animals around Animal Man. :P

I hope they do some space adventures, considering they have Strange, a Kryptonian and a Martian on the team.

I like Justice League Canada better but whatever. Adam Strange looks awesome!

Omfg what a team and concept. SO DOWN!

I thought it was Connor Hawke for a second

I wonder who this new Canadian character will be.

Cool cover! The team isn't doing much for me though. Will definitely check out the first few issues though.

Musch better name than Canada. Can't WAIT FOR THIS! It has Martian Manhunter, Animal Man, Green Arrow, and StarGirl. My favorites!

Awesome! I can't wait to see where Lemire is going to take this!

Newsarama's interview with Lemire says it's a heavily space-based series. The first arc's on Rann and the second's on Thanagar.

Plus I'm pretty sure Lemire is going to use this series to revisit the Seed Planet Buddy's supposed to become the guardian of, from his Animal Man series.

Nothing wrong with pointing out the truth :)

Looks really cool. I'm very happy to have a book where I can get Adam Strange, Martian Manhunter, Animal Man, and Green Arrow in the same place, written by Jeff Lemire nonetheless.

Jeff Lemire's JUSTICE LEAGUE UNITED To Split Time Between Canada & Outer Space

Fan's waiting for Jeff Lemire's Justice League Canada to kick off will have a bit of a change in their future, DC Comics announced Thursday afternoon on USAToday. In April 2014, rather than the first issue of the retitled and moved-North team, we'll get the Justice League United, a team that will sometimes be in the great white north, and sometimes in the far reaches of space.

USAToday's Brian Truitt broke the news with writer Jeff Lemire, who will introduce the altered team in Justice League United #0,

featuring Martian Manhunter, Adam Strange, Stargirl, Supergirl (who notably is not a Red Lantern in the image), Green Arrow, and Animal Man.

The April 2014 issue by Lemire and artist Mike McKone will establish exactly why the series, originally planned to be called Justice League Canada is now United: "It's very much a swashbuckling, world-jumping space adventure," Lemire says. "We decided it was a good idea to expand the scope of the series."

The team will have a base in Canada, but will "touch on every corner of the DC Universe," promises the writer. While Adam Strange will have some changes from his Pre-52 history, he'll still be the impetus for their interstellar travel thanks to his Zeta Beam instant transfer. His wife, Alanna, will be much more involved with his adventures than ever before, Lemire says. The characters are sharing the "swashbuckling space hero" status - with Alanna actually being more of the hero while Adam's more of "a nerdy science guy."

DC Comics fans will recognize the team's space-fairing locals, with the first two arcs taking them to Rann and Thanagar - with that second arc featuring Hawkman. Other characters will come into the book, as well, like a teenage hero from the Northern Ontario location the team will be based.

Lemire isn't skimping on research, having recently spent six months in the area to make it and the characters authentic.

"I've gotta say I've put more work into this book than I have for anything I've ever done for DC," he told Truitt. "It's been really fulfilling, and hopefully on top of all that it's a big fun action-adventure superhero comic that people will enjoy."

I love this line up! Adam Strange ftw!!!

Could now have said it better my self, this comic is every thing I have been hoping for for the last year.

This probably means JLA is going to be canceled, kinda sad, but then again it was not that good of a comic, and also kind of sad that Supergirl will stop being a red lantern so fast, but oh well. Now the only thing left for them to do is to find a place for Andrew Bennet & the Demon Knights!

Edited by CantDance93

Whatever Jeff Lemire writes I will buy. Fact! Love the Rooster too, i'm guessing this takes place before Supergirl's a red lantern.

i like the roster

Yeah, but then again DC is very short on non-white heroes.

Also happy Supergirl finally found her place after 3 years of raging and smashing ( was fun, but it is time for her to chill down a bit ), though my hope for her was that she would have formed a little team by the name of "Titans" with Nightwing & the rest, but this works for me as well.

Edited by KrazyCrab

Are they still going to add that new Canadian superhero to the team? Also sad that Vibe isn't in this team =/

Posted by darkrider

i am going to be broke by the end of april thanks to marvel and dc

Edited by Mezmero

They shouldn't just arbitrarily draw animals on Animal Man. I get that it's symbolic or whatever but for a second I thought Detective Chimp was going to be on this team.

Posted by Avenging-X-Bolt

Awful lot of blond haired blue eyed members on that team.....I'll check it out though. To support J'onn at the very least.

Posted by mikep12

Give Green Arrow a beard and this book will be well actually it can't get any cooler Adam Strange BOOYA

Posted by manwithoutshame

Looking forward to this, Lemire has been on fire for awhile now.

Posted by BR_Havoc

I guess having Canada in the title they thought people would not buy it?

Posted by Archfiend20xx

So I guess only the first arc will take place up north, eh?

Sounds aboot right.

Well, they were right. I mean, I'd buy it, but I'd look around furtively to make sure no one I knew was nearby.

@daredevil21134:

It would be cool if was. Since most of heroes are JLA members, that means that JLA is going to pass throught big problems.

@archfiend20xx: First arc is set on Rann, the second on Thanagar.

i thought i just read Alanna Strange in that description but that certain looks like a guy ie Adam Strange

They'll both be part of the team, Adam is the science geek and Alanna is the swashbuckling hero.

I love Supergirl, but I've been a bit bored by her book. So I am all for a Lemier controlled Supergirl, even if it isn't a Supergirl book. lol. I'm in!
