JUSTICE LEAGUE UNITED Launches in April

JUSTICE LEAGUE CANADA gets a new name, but it's still the same book.

Mike McKone variant cover

Writer Jeff Lemire announced on his blog today that his new book, JUSTICE LEAGUE UNITED will be hitting store shelves this April. Lemire, along with artist Mike McKone, were originally slated to turn JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA into JUSTICE LEAGUE CANADA, but after some talk with DC, they all agreed that just changing the title to "Canada" may be a little limiting, so they're starting a whole new series instead This still means that JLA will be ending in April.

As a result, JLA will be ending in April and my book will become a brand new ongoing series called JUSTICE LEAGUE UNITED! Justice League United will launch in April with an extra-sized Zero Issue followed by #1 in May. And the first storyline will be titled: Justice League Canada. The team will still be based in Canada and the book will still introduce a brand new First Nations Canadian superhero to the DC Universe. More details on this new character, her origin and her powers, will be released in the weeks to come.

The team will have their headquarters in Moosonee, Ontario and will be made up of these members: Animal Man, Green Arrow, Stargirl, Martian Manhunter, Alanna Strange, and Hawkman.

So make sure, this April, to check out the newest DC on-going series, JUSTICE LEAGUE UNITED!

What do you guys think about this new series and the name change?

I guess having United is better than Canada. Placing a country's name on a comic book is limiting, no matter what country it is.

I don't get why this is taking place in Moosonee, lol. Maybe because of the clear night skies? If they are going cosmic with this, maybe they were better off heading up to Nunavut or one of the territories where you can catch the Northern Lights.

Would be nice to see a First Nations representative on the team but I really hope they don't ham it up and cater to stereo-types. While I am glad the writer has taken it upon himself to research things, I will keep my enthusiasm to a low simmer until more is revealed.

I didn't realize McKone was one this book, between him, Lemire, and Animal man, I couldn't be more excited for this series. I think it was a good idea to change the name to Justice League United, as I don't understand how anyone ever thought Canada was a big enough deal to get their own justice league book.

This looks like DC is trying to replicate Marvel's success with "Guardians of the Galaxy."

awesome.

The name is much better and I love this team!

I wonder if we will get to see some of the Milestone and/or Wildstorm characters DC has on the team, that would be pretty cool. Gotta say though, I was kinda looking forward to read JLC (and I'm not even Canadian), oh well this still looks like a good book. But I am disappointed that JLA is getting canceled, can't we have both? please DC :)

Not to be "that guy," but there's an awful lot of white people in that image... :\

Otherwise, very happy to see Adam Strange finally, and Supergirl in a team book is probably a pretty good idea.

Well the team is just as diverse as the Justice League I suppose

Hahahahaha I would buy the s**t out of a Justice League Canada book! Please for the love of all that is comics, make them have their meetings at a Tim Horton's.

So is Manhunter ditching the JL of A or is he splitting his time? Anyone hear anything about that.

JLA?

Yea and Marvel just announced there paranormal Avengers team so I wonder if that's because of JLD lol

@saren: lol that was pretty funny. Just does make sense to me that they feel people will not read a book because you put them in Canada. There are plenty of Canadian readers and I double people are that Xenophobic.

Life after Lemire's Animal Man is much better with this book in the horizon.

Posted by NightHaunter

Don't currently buy any DC books but this sounds awesome. It will be my first!

My only issue with the roster is Supergirl. But besides that, I'm super excited! :D

Am I the only one that loved the name Justice League Canada? Even as an American, I was down for that title. But my body can't wait for this book any longer

Posted by lifeboy

This seems unnessary. I was happy with JLA even though the storyline went into turmoil with forever evil. I guess I'm still getting it just to replace my JLA title.

Ok

I don't read Supergirl, so I'm curious: Is the red crotch patch a normal part of her uniform? Because it looks really weird.

It probably is. They're both copycats.

Looking forward to this a lot.

Yes and yes.

I like Justice League Canada better but whatever. Adam Strange looks awesome!

I'm looking forward to Adam Strange, but when will Martian Manhunter return to the main Justice League title?

I thought that was what the Threshold book was about, even changing Captain Carrot to a Rocket Raccoon analogue.

How would you compare the Bendis' run to DnA? From the comments here it doesn't seem very favorable.

Adam Strange looks awesome, does anyone have any recommendations for previous runs with him?

Nice cast! looking forward with Animal Man!

but is that Supergirl?

There's a story called Planet Heist that was very good (but hasn't been reprinted in quite some time) which then continued into the Rann/Thanagar War.

I would want to see at least one scene where the team meets (in their civvies) at a mountainside resort (though not by a fire). The best bit of comedy? J'onn takes the form of someone who looks a lot like Bob McKenzie.

I thought it was Connor Hawke for a second

I thought that for a second also.

I can deal with the fact that they changed Stargirls costume but I wish they came up with something better.

Wait, shouldn't Simon Baz be on this team?

Edited by Black_Claw

I'm looking forward to this! Wait if MM is on this team then that means..... Damn it, Cyborg is still gonna be on the main Justice League.

This should be good. Shame Animal Man is ending though.

loving adam strange new look, the fish bowl was just sad. I hope they get new members on the team there are a lot of good characters they have yet to use.

Sweet, now all I need is a Martian Manhunter solo

JLA?

The Justice League of America. He's in the other book too. The one with Catwoman and Hawkman. Actually Stargirl is in that too.

It's going to be cancelled and replaced with Justice League United

@degraaf: Shes on the team from his blog

The roster of the new Justice League team will be a collection of some of my favourite DC characters: ANIMAL MAN, GREEN ARROW, STARGIRL, MARTIAN MANHUNTER, ADAM STRANGE, SUPERGIRL, ALANNA STRANGE and HAWKMAN

That is such a great line up reminds me very much of Justice League Unlimited.

Lets count the number of books Supergirl will be showing up in over the next 4 months.

Supergirl

Green Lantern

Red Lantern

Secret Orgin

Just League United

Batman/Superman

I think DC wants us to pay attention to her as a big fan of her book this makes me very happy

@inferiorego You forgot Supergirl she is on the team via his Blog

which I am going to take means you hate her since every one on this site has some they hate :)

Better name? Check.

Awesome roster? Check. Check

Jeff Lemire? Check. Check. Check.

QFT Priceless.

Edited by Mars8254

Instant buy just because of Lemire. Also glad they changed the name from JLC. I need a Justice league book.

Edited by The_Tree

@jonny_anonymous: That's a good question. No point in making such a big deal about his introduction and then shelving him.

Posted by dreamfall31

That team-up is giving me major Justice League Unlimited vibes...might pick up because of that!

Posted by Jonny_Anonymous

@the_tree: Yea and every Justice League needs a Lantern especially one that's cosmic in nature.

Posted by davidgrantlloyd

Cool. I'm getting it.

Posted by The_Tree

@jonny_anonymous: Definitely. He had a great introductory arc and I'd like to see more of him. He was severely underutilized in JLA.

Posted by PeppeyHare

Oh wow, that's a pretty sick roster. Looking forward to this

Posted by ULTRAstarkiller

This is awesome can't wait.

Posted by Batmandemon23

@lykopis: Wait isn't it said that the writer himself is Canadian

Posted by The Stegman

@the_tree: seriously, where the hell is Baz? They made such a big deal about him, then wrote him off to the background.

Love that Lemire was able to bring Green Arrow and Animal Man over to his new book. Double dose of Lemire's Ollie will be awesome.
