Join the First Ever Superhero Labor Union in C.O.W.L.

In the 1960s, Chicago superheroes must fight to regain the public’s confidence.

What happens when superheroes are no longer the beacon of hope they once were in the eyes of the public? Join Kyle Higgins (Batman, Nightwing), Alec Siegel (Captain America,Avengers), and Rod Reis (Justice League) in their all-new ongoing Image Comics series C.O.W.L. Set in 1960s Chicago, a labor union of superheroes must work together to regain the confidence of the public and ferret out threats inside and outside their offices.

Higgins explained that the enemy the superheroes must face in C.O.W.L. is not the typical maniacal villain. “The biggest threat facing C.O.W.L. in 1962 is one of purpose. With the last of the great villains taken down—and their contract with the city about to expire—the union faces questions about their role in Chicago,” said Higgins. “On top of new mob-manufactured villains, jurisdiction battles with the Police, internal leaks, and a secret history that—if exposed—could topple the entire organization.”

Additionally, Reis’ art for C.O.W.L. departs from the traditional superhero-comic-style and was influenced by different time periods and mediums. "The idea is to use some of my influences of 60s' illustration, noir movies, and Graphic Novels from 80s to emphasize the feeling of politics and intrigue,” said Reis. “You will see super heroes in the book, but not the way you are accustomed."

A mystery of history, crime-fiction, and superheroes, C.O.W.L. has something for every reader. The first issue of C.O.W.L. arrives in stores on 5/28 and will be available for $3.50. It can be pre-ordered using Diamond Code: MAR140477.

@havok85h: That's rude.

Not really because she does lol

Why is this the first I've heard of Jen and Kyle dating? Odd that I never connected the dots till now lol.

As for this series itself, I am really interested in what Higgins is doing here. The interviews seem to suggest the use of 1960s unionism and social unrest in America coupled with a seemingly noir flavour to the story and of course the traditional superhero formula reworked into a completely new fashion. I loved how the ranking system amongst the superheroes was described which is a nice parallel to the capitalist hierarchy in America in the 60s. This'll be the first Image series I commit to given how new and fresh it is and I'm looking forward to it.

Quit stalking her you creeps.

Steady, they talk about it on the podcast all the time

I'll get round to it eventually. It was only 3 years ago that my entire pull list was comprised of DC and Marvel and I had little knowledge of anything else. Now I'm paying attention to all companies to find the best of the bunch. So I'm sort of on my way :P

@jonny_anonymous: I don't always have time for the podcast let alone listening to it the whole way through. I'll have to rectify that in the future. Also, to lessen your disapproval, I have dabbled in Peter Panzerfaust and Invincible and will probably dabble in Lazarus at some point. I really like what Rucka is doing there.

This look great, but why am I getting a Watchmen vibe here? Hope it's not another Watchmen.
