I saw Joe Kubert in Houston Comicpaloza a couple of months ago.

I have worked in radio and interviewed big name bands. I only mention this to note I'm not really shy around celebrities or people of note. They have a job, and for most part they do it well. That is how I treated them.

I had talked to a couple of artists and writers and got some of their work while i was there. I saw Joe and wanted to talk to him, but I honestly wasn't sure I knew his stuff well enough to talk to him. Which sounds weird, unless you have done enough interviews. As a professional you always do research to know their bio and not embarrass you or your company. All I knew was how he was so famous for Hawkman, which was one of the most iconic of heroes for dc and he helped on the original seven soldiers of victory. (I am huge fan of new seven soldiers of victory, and always looked up info about original.) Joe was talking very amiably to all the people coming up o the booth. He was selling his sons art, as were the sons themselves, and showing information about his art school. No offense to his sons, who are great artists as well, but I just wanted an a picture of his hawkman signed by him. The whole family were great to everyone who showed up. He smiled at me as walked past, but i couldn't muster the courage to just ask him.

My fault, my choice, and now he's gone. He left a legacy in his comics, in his art school, as well as with his children.

R.I.P. Joe Kubert.

The man loved the art form as much as we loved him. It's always hard to believe when a legend goes, but that's just the thing, the legend will never truly leave. Rest in peace, Joe.

Leave it to the DCE Team to sneak in a plug of their newest comic in their "Remembering" of this man. Stay classy.

Truly sorry to read this. Some of my first comic books I read were Sgt. Rock and Our Army At War, that had amazing art by Joe Kubert.

I knew who this guy was even before I knew that there were artists for comic books, as I used to see the ads from older comics.

Got to meet him last year in at Dewey's Comic City (Madison, NJ). An absolutely pleasant man and he was very accommodating in signing stuff for his fans. My Enemy Ace Archive Vol 1 and Sgt Rock Archive Vol 1 were signed for my infant sons. God Rest in Peace to the greatest artist in comicdom. You will be missed and surely never forgotten.
