James Robinson to Leave EARTH 2

The writer announces his departure over Twitter.

If you're a regular listener to the Comic Vine Podcast, you know we usually have James Robinson on each month after the latest issue of EARTH 2 comes out. In a bit of shocking news, it looks like those days may be over. James Robinson made the following Tweet moments ago:

No Caption Provided

No official announcement has been made. This was followed by a second Tweet:

"Yes, this also means I'm no longer working at DC Comics. Best wishes and regards to Dan, Geoff and everyone."

What this means for James or the future of EARTH 2, we'll have to wait and see. We all here at Comic Vine wish him the best of luck in whatever his next venture may be.

My goodnesss, writers are dropping DC like a bad habit. Though hopefully, they can get someone better, he was okay, but the writing was a bit corny at times.

Very said to hear to this. I actually hadn't read one New 52 title until hearing James on the podcast. He responded to my critiscm of DC's editorial policies so well that I gave Earth 2 and Wonder Woman a try and I love both books. Not sure if I'll say on once he leaves.

I've heard good things about this title, and it seems James was happy writing Earth 2. Must be DC crap again..

Didn't James and Geoff made plans for a cross over?

He had so many plans though. What about developing the new Batman and the crossover with the main universe down the line. I'm sure the show will go on but.... Well here's my feelings on the subject summed up in about 14 seconds.

Wow really? Just saw this on twitter and I have to say this was pretty shocking. I might top reading after 16. That leaves just Talon for my DC reading since Demon Knights and I, Vampire are both gone. Im interested to see whos replacing him.

James IS Earth-2 as far as I'm concerned. I liked it way more than the main Justice League title. Looks like I'm dropping after issue 16.

Then they'll cancel Justice League Dark after the trinity war and change it for a book with an 'all new creative team', then more Superman, then more Justice League, by january Superman Unchained will go too but books like Catwoman and Red Lantern will stay oh, and they'll put Snyder on yet another book and he'll drop Batman and just like Deathstroke, when things were getting good? they'll cancel RHATO too !! :'D let's face it, I don't know anyone that's picking up more than 5 DC books, not everyone gets the sames book but people are actually dropping DC bit by bit..

O_O This really just shot my day T___T

Mr. Robinson was doing such a great job on this title and I was really looking forward to he had planned for where all these character's and stories were going. I don't even understand who would even be able to handle continuing what he setup thus far. Way to drop the ball DC. I'm already seeing this title dropping from my list after he leaves, especially if the writer to follow can't at least keep this title breathing.(If it becomes like World's finest I'm out.)

Well where ever James lands I'll pick up whatever he writes next and wish him the best of luck.

This doesn't necessarily mean Robinson is leaving because of DC editorial issues or whatever. Earth-2 was his only book. 17 issues (+ the annual) is a substantial run, and it allowed him to build up the world from scratch. A good writer could very well pick it up and take it to good places.

He revamped several concepts making the old feel new exactly what The New 52's goal has been the whole time. Yet he leaves. After so many writers and artists just leaving it seems obvious to blame DC again.

I don't know why everyone is so upset by this, he started out great but the writing has severely dropped in quality to the point where we have giant dialogue bubbles giving out forced exposition and many times the writing is just bland, I think a change of pace is what the title needs. That Doctor Fate arc was painful.

Earth 2 was the only thing stopping DC from reverting about the old universe with Robinson off the book and gone from the company. I guess his crossover planed for next year is off and to me this means DC is rebooting again after Trinity War.

I would love to be a fly on the wall for these meeting where they decide to cancel books and why writers leave so abruptly.

Clearly the powers that be at DC have a plan, and have a certain mindset with their books....I just dont understand it, and the entire line is suffering and wish they never did the New 52 reboot.

Aside from Aquaman and RHATO, I can't think of any books that enjoyed greater success since the change. Your looking at the same, or plummeting quality and what was the point if that is all you accomplished 2 yrs later?

Seriously? That's your paragon of success? I agree that there's mismanagement, but that's more so Bob Harras than anything else. He ruined Marvel in the 90s and now he's wreaking havoc on DC.

He better leave extensive notes for his replacement and train him really well so whoever picks it up after him does the job right, otherwise I'm dropping this book and DC as a whole along with it. I think this speaks to how horribly the editorial at DC probably treats their writers. Robinson was one of their best and they're idiots to let him go. Maybe Johns was just jealous that Robinson is without a doubt a far superior writer. Here's hoping he gets hired at Marvel and sells better than all of Johns's titles.

In all seriousness, DC needs to get it together. I hope they success of Marvel Now and the plummeting sales of N52 titles make them realize that they made a huge mistake. Marvel did their relaunch right. So who needs to get fired at DC to actually fix things?

Was my opinion and my logic tells me that DC is losing all of what was accomplished with the new 52 there market share is lower then it was before the new 52 had started and they have this thing Trinity War coming up with an all powerful box involved my logic tells me there will be a huge shake up to the universe that is desperately needing it. Its time to save the sinking ship if not the new 52 will be remembered as DC's Heroes Reborn.
