Is Flash Heading to the CW?

The channel allegedly has big plans for the character.

He may not have his own live-action film coming out in the near future (although, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox is out now on blu-ray/DVD), but it looks like Flash could be racing his way towards a lot of appearances over at the CW. According to Deadline, Arrow's co-creators want to give the Justice Leaguer his very own show. But before that, they're allegedly going to introduce Flash in the next season of Arrow.

Deadline also says Geoff Johns will help write the potential show. Viners, what do you think about the speedster possibly appearing in Arrow and perhaps getting his own series? Could this be DC's way of familiarizing the general audience with more characters before taking a risk and using them on the big screen? There was a rumor that he'd get his own movie in 2016 or past that, after all. Only time will tell, I suppose. But in the meantime, I'm all for this as long as they bring their "A" game.

PLEASE keep Arrow in the no-powers world for a bit.

Besides, I thought DC said we ARE getting a Flash movie after Superman/Batman?

That hasn't been confirmed. It's just a rumor.

hate it. no reason at all I mean they haven't casted or wrote it yet but some how I hate it. no trailer to justify it, and I wont watch the pilot to give it a chance. I hated this before the idea was even thought of.

not really, but that's how some people sound

Hm, I don't know about this. I'm not a big fan of Arrow because I don't think the CW makes very good shows. I really hope they make a Flash movie instead.

Edited by DCVibe

An animated series I can accept more because I already know the rogues are going to be changed drastically to make them more "real."

Barry (not Flash) appearing in Arrow is what I can get excited for, not the idea of having his own show.

I really want to support WB and their DC product but what's the point if it is only going to mislead them? This is what I'm thinking- "They liked Arrow and new The Flash show. Good, now let's release Wonder Woman show now that the fans are accepting changes to the character."

Posted by War Killer

I'm interested in how they will do this, if this is true, as I've always felt that Flash would be the hardest character to pull off in a live-action show or movie. Super-Speed is a hard thing to make look cool and believable, so I've curious on how they'll pull this off.

Also, this may be DC's way of testing the waters before giving Flash is own live action movie.

This has fail written all over it.

how many hands does Geoff Johns has? That guy is putting them everywhere!

Anyway, I don't want a TV show, I want a DAMN MOVIE ABOUT THE DAMN FLASH! AND GODDAMN MOVIE OF THE GODDAMN WONDER WOMAN!

My opinion is that Arrow is a very poor choice to spin a DC Comics television universe out of, as this Oliver Queen is a very different character than his mainstream DCU counterpart. This is not the Green Arrow that would be a member of the Justice League. They changed a lot about the character to make the show good. And it works as a self-contained universe. However, if they were to create a shared universe about DC Comics characters, I'd want the real Green Arrow.

Posted by Avilon

For me its all depends how they do the show (they have shown some good stuff with Arrow) and if, and how they tie into the same continuity of what they are doing with the Justice League movie.

Just reiterating myself from the Newsarama facebook page:

I don't get it. Marvel has made previously marginally known heroes into global phenomenons, & DC/WB is too scared to give already well-known characters (Wonder Woman, Flash) their own movies... Uh... Okay, DC.

Posted by ThomasElliot

I guess it would open the door for meta's in Arrow's universe.

It can work. Look at Game of Thrones... that world started off very non-magical, Braveheart like... and as the seasons went by, more and more crazy s**t was introduced.

Not that Arrow is anything like GoT, but just saying.

A Flash show would be great, HOWEVER, I would prefer a Flash animated series AND a Flash live action movie. Those would be absolutely fantastic!

Posted by Fallschirmjager

Yeah...I'm also not sure how Flash would work in Arrow-verse. Arrow very much feels to me like a no-powers type show and I like it that way. We did see the teaser of Black Canary sure...but it wasn't like she was screaming at someone in the trailer - she was just laying down a beating.

I'm all for introducing new heroes/villains into Arrow, but I think it would be wise to stay away from anyone with powers. I like the tone of the show and powers just don't seem to fit imo.

I'd rather see a live action movie, despite how hard it is to pull off.

Why would it be hard to pull off?

Edited by chaddum96

Hopefully the super speed will look better than Smallville's. It wasn't bad, it was just a little cheesy. If they do this right, it could be awesome.

Posted by chaddum96

This makes me think, if will be outside of the new DC movie universe, why can't we get a live-action Batman show??? It really wouldn't cost more than Arrow if its a "early days of Batman" kinda show. Like no Bat-mobile or gadgets, just Batman. So pretty much a "Year One" tv show. It would be kind of cool to make a huge universe on TV. I wouldn't mind it. They just couldn't do villains like Killer Croc etc. Just a thought....

I hate the fact that Warner Bros. refuses to establish other heroes in the live-action movie industry. Marvel has more than four films scheduled for release in 2014 and several others for the next four years. Meanwhile, DC Comics schedules literally three movies for the next five years.

Back to the topic, I think that it would be great if Flash could have his own series but I'd rather have it animated. It wouldn't have the time, budget, or fans to create a well-made series, especially because most Flash villains are a bit too colorful for live-action. I wouldn't want to see the Flash in the Arrow universe simply because the series isn't for metahumans. Even putting in Black Canary will strain Arrow's existence.

Anyways, I will state that DC has done much better with live-action TV shows than Marvel. Smallville was considered one of the best comic-based TV shows of all-time. Human Target had an incredible fanbase, even ranking well in reviews. Birds of Prey did considerably well, even though it was soon cancelled.

I'm so down for this, Flash doesn't get nearly enough praise as he should!! So if CW (god, help us) wants to bring him out for a few cameos & show, let em try. it's better than nothing, or waiting who knows how long for a movie

Edited by Ace20XD6

It might work, especially since Barry Allen is a forensic investigator. Oh and I'm surprise no one posted this yet.

Posted by flameboy298

Would rather Flash get a animation show...its long overdue

Posted by Michael_Moran

If its as good as arrow I eould be happy.

Edited by LyraFay

He should get a movie, he's familiar enough to some general audiences than some of Marvel's obscure characters. Come on WB/DC give him the big screen treatment, Arrow hasn't done Green Arrow right.

Posted by MadeinBangladesh

gonna be Epic!!

and It's already confirmed that we will be apprearing in 3 episodes in Season 2.

I think the Flash show can work, after all most of Barry's escapades are police-like. However, I don't see how they can ground him like Jonhs was quoted. I hope it's good and flows. Overall I'm happy, maybe this means Deathstroke will show a bit more superhuman acts and Canary with her cry, and DCCU!

Edited by JonSmith

So it's been confirmed Barry will appear in three episodes, 8, 9, and 20. 20 will be the pilot for his spin-off, and while he'll first appear on the show as a powerless forensic investigator in Starling City, he WILL get his powers. They've also said that they'll be portraying his superspeed differently from Smallville.

Edited by Doctor_Whovian

Barry Allen will make his debut in episodes 8 & 9 of Arrow's upcoming season. Also, The CW's president stated that they're looking into expanding the DCU even further than The Flash, because of how popular their superhero shows become. We could be looking at some great new additions in the near future.

Huh. Figured Arrow was a no-powers universe.

Exactly! Letting the Flash appear on Arrow wouldn't make much sense.

I'd also prefer a live action movie. There's a lot of mystery going on around Oliver and his family that makes it a perfect background story for the TV series. I don't see how the Flash could possible work as TV series unless there isn't a greater plot spanning over the entire season but then it would be boring in the first place. Maybe I'm lacking imagination here. A movie would be awesome though!

Maybe its a Universe where super powers are a new development, just because something can exist in a particular world that doesn't mean it always has existed.

Posted by Fallschirmjager

If the Flash is getting his own TV show I wonder what this means about his possible involvement in the Justice League? Not well imo.

Edited by RedheadedAtrocitus

Great that Geoff Johns may help write it...lets just hope it doesn't suffer the same mistakes Smallville did if its greenlighted. Just saying.

Deathstroke has powers....

Deathstroke is a street-level character. Portraying him without powers is simple, and Slade hasn't been stated to be superhuman anywhere in the show. It's a tad harder to do the same thing with Barry Allen or Hal Jordan and still call them Flash or Green Lantern.

still he has powers no matter what level he is on....and since the flash is being used in ARROW your assumption of it being a no powers world is wrong.....Green Arrow is best friends with Hal Jordan at some point this is the DC universe people get superpowers... separating them is just stupid...it was mistake to do it with the Dark Knight trilogy and now they are fixing it

He has powers in the comics, but those powers are relatively low-level physical enhancements that can easily be done away with for an on-screen portrayal. Count Vertigo has powers too, but on the show he's just an awfully portrayed loser peddling weird drugs. It's easier to ignore Deathstroke's powers than it is to ignore the Flash's powers. Did you actually read my post? I was surprised that the Flash was going to appear in Arrow because none of the characters thus far have displayed or been stated to have superhuman abilities, and the ones who do have superpowers like Vertigo, the Royal Flush Gang and Constantine Drakon had their powers taken away for the show.

Think of the budget and effect, also a series would need realistically it would be hard to believe most of his rogues would present a threat. Mainly my concern is how his powers will be written. Hopefully Barry is blonde.

This. It's the ultimate teenybopper channel.

Edited by mkukie68

@kilowog52: I'm not arguing with you about the character being tweaked in the first season, but from what I got out of the season two trailer is that Oliver becomes way more involved in his business and I'm thinking over this season he'll become way more traditional Robin Hood Green Arrow (Liberal). He is done being the vigilante and start being a hero.

Do have to admit Green Arrow is my second fav comic character but his role in a JL movie would only be a better version of Haweye from the Avengers, at best

Edited by RedLantern23

Honestly, as long as its good I'll be happy. Of course I'd love a movie but a tv show is equally awesome.

Posted by Shika1Dude

1st thing they need to do is to make Arrow (and potential flash series) into a shared Universe to MOS

Posted by KingRobbStark

Great. I can already see CW's crappy running graphics. He's going to look like a retard on crack when he's running.

Yeah, I'm very disappointed that they're making him a part of that show. I hope he's still getting his solo movie in 2016. Btw nice name.

Sounds like mixing Heroes, Smallville and the Flash.

@justthatkid: The effects could be like the one girl in MoS. When she was zipping around the soldiers. As for rouges, New 52 ones seem like the right choice. IIRC doesn't current Captain Cold have an ability to naturally slow Flash down when in his presence?

CW puts out nothing but shit shows, this will be no different.

Am I the only one that thinks that Barry is a great fit for a TV show? A procedural with Super Powers could be pretty awesome.

just read the article the flash will have powers...so its not hard if you just do it....in the real world guys don't shoot arrows at people either running on rooftops... suspension of belief ....its Tv show its suppose to be fun I know im watch its starting to look like SUPERHERO SHOW ...like with superpowers
