Is Cyclops The New Phoenix?

wonder if marvel is going to end it like: cyclops sees the destruction and puts everything back the way it was. then reverts himself to a more simple version with 3 friends from the past.

no idea how this will end, but im pretty sure Cyclops X-Men team (as we know it will have Emma, Magneto and Magik) will become more and more into dark x-men team..

Between Emma and Scott, Emma showed that she was actually aware of the things Phoenix was making her do and tried to get Scott to stop her from doing those things. Whereas Scott has never once questioned what the Phoenix is doing to him and continue to swear by it. So, I'm willing to bet Cyclops will lose everything and Emma leads the X-Men or she just takes them all to Logan with her, and they just merge at the school. Which would explain the lack of Namor-ness. What would he be doing at a school? When New Atlantis is still under Utopia.

I'm REALLY feeling sorry for Cyclops right about now. He's really gone off the deep end. Hasn't he learned nothing from Jean Grey?

@handsome_stud: That's . . . a really good question! His arm is almost as thin as Cyclops', and Cyclops is much farther back. I thought we didn't have to worry about this kind of thing now that Liefeld is out of mainstream comics.

Sorry, I meant the original run of the Sentry, not the abomination of bringing him into central continuity.

my guess..Cyke goes crazy with power, and realizes the phoenix can't be controlled, he realizes what the Scarlet Witch has gone through trying to control her powers and her downfall, and he sees himself on the same path. SO he wishes for things to be simpler, and the leaves the door open for the original x-men to be brought to the 616 universe...something around those lines.

Cyclops and this cover looks so BADA$$. I like Cyclops as the new phoenix. His costume looks awesome and the phoenix has increased his power, so now he's stronger.

It should be called Everybody on Marvel Earth V.S Cyclops and Emma.

Very few of the AvX covers have been really indicative of the overall plot. While I like this cover, I doubt we can accurately infer much of issue #12's plot from it. Although, this cover makes me wonder where Emma winds up in this thing.

Way to spoil your event Marvel. Then again this is a variant cover. The past ones had no connection to the issue it is for, so maybe this one does not either.

Just like Steve Rogers.

These writers should study a long lived characters' past before they play these "what if" games with heroes that have been around for decades!

I bought the first X-men comic because Cyclops looked that cool.

But, that was a long time ago.

Seems to me that Cyclops will end up burning himself out, similarly to how the pre-Phoenix saga in the 90' cartoon was that Jean "died", but then came back corrupted.

Maybe the opposite will happen that Scott will stop being insane?

I don't know which event i want to hurry up, and end more? A.V.X.  or the 2012 election. 
I just don"t care anymore. I just want it to stop.

Reason (insert ludicrous number here) as to why I will never be reading this event.

I used to get offended when Marvel would make an awful X-Men story but I'm not anymore. I just can't bring myself to care now. I used to admire Cyclops too, and now I can't relate to him or understand him at all.

Agreed. I've been reading the old school xmen/xfactor (the clarmont/silvestri and simonson years). What a huge difference in character. Cyke used to be level headed, now he's some idiot who just keeps going insane. He was kind of a tool sometimes, but you expected that, it was just who he was.

Look, its the Phoenix's fault not Cyclops, with more power Cyclops gets the more he has trouble fighting the Phoenix. Everyone is saying it's all his fault, but i'm saying it's its only partially his fault. with what over 90% of the worlds mutants gone, his controversal relationship with Emma Frost, and that he has to lead the rest of mutantkind, it's kind of know wonder he's cracking.

Just knew this was going to happen. Not sure how I feel about it.

everybody seems to be able to forgive Jean Grey for turning into/being possessed by the phoenix force, hell she ate a star and killed billions, why is it so hard for everyone to forgive cyke? sure he hasnt been the most fan friendly character over the last few years, but hes willing to be the bad guy so that his people could live on. without him we wouldnt have the new X-force or the uncanny X-force. the last 5 years would be drastically different for mutantkind without him and his direction. think about this, if cyclops wasnt in charge of the Xmen, there would be no X-force, without X-force then mutants would not have survived Second Coming. after AvX the Xmen and Avengers will have tighter ranks then theyve ever had, which will hopefully mean that less mutants die in the next few years. even if you hate his methods, you cant argue results

I honestly don't see any redemption for Scott here. Whether he does an about-face at the end or not, he's surely lost all trust and respect from humans and mutants alike. That's why I think he's going to more-or-less be the villain in All New X-Men.

Also, I'm trying to see if I'm looking at it from the right angle, but what is that on the far right sitting atop that stone slab? It looks like Daredevil with a 9-inch long neck.
