IDW to Reprint SUPERMAN, BATMAN and WONDER WOMAN Newspaper Strips

Now you will have a chance to read the rare classic strips from DC Comics.

It might seem a little weird that IDW Publishing will be reprinting old DC Comics newspaper strips but this does make sense. IDW's Library of American Comics and DC Entertainment have announced a new partnership to reprint some of DC's rarest stories featuring Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.

No Caption Provided

Back in the 1940s when Superman, Batman and Wonder Women were rising in popularity in comic books, they also appeared in runs of newspaper comic strips. Most of these were never reprinted or seen since they first appeared. Superman's run lasted more than 25 years between 1939 and 1966. Only about 10% of these have ever been reprinted.

The complete comics will be released in three sub-sets focusing on the Silver Age, Atomic Age and Golden Age. The black-and-white daily and color Sunday strips featured distinct stories and will be released in separate deluxe hardcovers.

This series begins in July with SUPERMAN: THE SILVER AGE NEWSPAPER DAILIES, VOL 1: 1958-1961. The book will contain nearly 800 strips featuring artwork by Curt Swan, Wayne Boring and Stan Kaye.

Additional information on the Sunday books as well as the Batman and Wonder Woman collections will follow.

I'm totally going to buy these.

SUPERMAN: THE SILVER AGE NEWSPAPER DAILIES, VOL. 1: 1958-1961

(HC, B&W, $49.99, 288 pages, 11” x 8.5”)

ISBN: 978-1-61377-666-7

I was confused like crazy when I first saw this, but now that I see that IDW and DC are in partnership to allow this, it makes sense. I like the idea!

Wow this is great, correct me if I'm wrong but I think Jor-El (or Jor-L) and Lara were first introduced in the newspaper strips in the golden age, and the first glimpses of the story of Krypton's death too, and the silver age too? this is a great bit of news. definitely a must have for me.

I could be wrong but I think the names of his parents come from the radio show. I know for certain they are mentioned in the radio show before the comic mags, but it's possible they appeared in the strip first.

I didn't even realize that Wonder Woman had a newspaper strip but it makes sense. Not a bad price either.

I wish someone would do this for the Spider-Man news paper strips. I always tried to fallow those but I kept missing important parts >.<

Is IDW allowed to do this? Doesn't DC have the rights over those strips?

Sounds like an interesting thing to get, especially for the most dedicated collectors.
