IDW Announces a New SILENT HILL Series

SILENT HILL: DOWNPOUR: ANNE'S STORY debuts in August

The nightmare-inducing series based on the hit video game series Silent Hill by Konami Digital Entertainment (“Konami”) returns to IDW this summer with a brand new chapter, Silent Hill Downpour: Anne’s Story. Featuring the dark origins of Downpour’s enigmatic antagonist, this new comic book series will delve deeper into the history of prison guard Anne Marie Cunningham… as well as further explore the fog-shrouded haunted town that is caught between realities.

Introduced in Silent Hill Downpour, officer Anne Cunningham set out on a bloody quest for revenge. The mystery surrounding her journey to Silent Hill, and the terrors she faced upon her arrival will finally be revealed, giving readers an entirely new perspective on the acclaimed video game.

Having written both previous Silent Hill series at IDW, Sinner’s Reward and Past Life, as well as co-written the video game, Silent Hill Downpour, Tom Waltz returns to the foggy town that bleeds horror.

“This will be my fourth foray as a writer into the dark side streets and alleyways of everyone’s favorite haunted vacation town and I couldn’t be more excited,” said Waltz. “More so because we finally get to share Anne Marie Cunningham’s canonical backstory, a mystery only hinted at until now. In our new story we can finally present all her grim and dirty secrets to Silent Hill fans, old and new alike.”

Diving head first into Silent Hill is Australian artist Tristan Jones (Ghostbusters, Hoax Hunters), who is handling covers and interior art.

Debuting this August, Silent Hill Downpour: Anne’s Story opens up a whole new experience for fans and players, and stands tall as an horrifying tale all it’s own! Catch up on the previous Silent Hill series’ anytime on read.idwpublishing.com.

Never played a Silent Hill game (always wanted to but never got around to it), but I sill think this looks cool.

Love Silent Hill, I'm definitely looking forward to this.

@thecannon: I played some of the very first one. I dug the vibe and some of the puzzles. Never had a chance to finish. I was always afraid to check out the movie. Not out of fear of being scared but afraid I'd be really disappointed.

Hmm...kewl.

@g_man: The first Silent Hill movie was good but don't expect it to follow the game storyline. The second one was bad.

Not happy that it's downpour instead of like 1-3, but I regard less still a day one pick up since I love Silent Hill.

I've never played a silent hill game, but this looks like something I'd take a look at.

Silent Hill 3 was also scary.

As a rabid Silent Hill fan I am obliged to point out that Downpour was not a very good game. I'm skeptical that anyone can pull an engaging story out of that mess. But I sure hope so

@g_man: Yeah if you ever get the chance check out the movie, it's pretty good. Forget the second one though.

After the fourth game the franchise went sour. I heard that perhaps Kojima is going reboot the franchise , at this point they should just do it .

Awesome! Silent Hill is one of my favorite horror games

@slickymike88: Kojima is involved with Silent Hill? Also what purpose would rebooting the franchise do when each game is pretty much a standalone game?

Anyways I am rather neutral on the subject considering the comic is related to Downpour(at least it's not Homecoming).

I didn't care for the movies, but loved the games, the dark feel of them & the mythos behind them. One of my best friends in school was OBSESSED with Silent Hil & we talked about the games all the time. If this goes more by the games & that mythos it will be great. We need more great horror comics out there.

is she the magical girl?

I do not under stand this idea, why does the entire franchise need to be rebooted? Just ignore the piece of crap that no one likes, & continue on using the stuff people do like. Get this, a reboot is NOT A GUARANTEE that it'll be any better than what came before.

Kind of a weird choice. I've beat all the silent hill games and the worst part of them all was the story.

you should play Silent Hill it's really an awesome horror game.

Not sure how this will do. It not going to have much action, as the games were a slower pace Resident Evil type of game play. More about suspense than anything.

@cobramorph: Thank you! I'm sick to death of reboots. If a story is bad or becoming stale just think of fresh new ideas while still continuing the story as a whole.

@cobramorph: I believe Heather Mason was the magical girl.
