Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart Sign on for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

I am a bit skeptical about this movie, DofP isn't an easy story to bring on the big screen, but OMG i can't wait to see this movie!

This is the best news yet. This is shaping up to be the movie to watch.

I'm not impressed with this. As much as I admire the pair of them I don't see the need. It'll be interesting but I hope it doesn't end up with Fassbender and Mcavoy being forced into trying to mimic their elders.

I don't know. I love McKellen and Stewart, but I think the biggest missteps of First Class involved trying too hard to get it to fit with the other films when there were so many gaping plot holes that way. I mean, that and they spent too much time on not-so-interesting characters instead of the relationship between Xavier and Magneto, which was infinitely more interesting and terribly squandered. 
 
First Class was a decent popcorn flick that had promised more than it delivered, where The Last Stand and Origins: Wolverine failed even on that level. As much as part of me wants them to continue, I'd rather Fox not be whores and dump the franchise rights so Marvel can take over from scratch.
 
But that's not going to happen. So, Fox, at least try to make future installments worth my time.

I'm excited for this one. It hopefully deals with something dear to my heart: Sentinels. I wasn't too big a fan of the last few X-related films, but I think they'll make this one big. Maybe mix age of apocolypse? I don't know. It's crazy. I'm excited to see what they give us.

I'm at the point where anything comic-related, be it the books or the movies (or the video games), I'm just going to assume it stands alone. For this movie, I plan on disregarding any prior X-Men movies. That means the X-Trilogy, both Wolverine movies, and First Class.

Now if someone is thinking "How can I just ignore the other movies? Won't those stories impact the story of this one?" Well, how did First Class end? Charles in a wheelchair (albeit with hair still) and Eric as Magneto, two friends that are now enemies. What were Charles and Eric in the original movies? Two friends that are now enemies. Sweet. No confusion there.

"But what if they reference events from another movie?" Mainstream pop culture makes references to millions of different media all the time. That doesn't stop people from enjoying Two and Half Men (why people still enjoy it, I don't know). Many people have said The Dark Knight Returns is a story that got them into comics, and that relies on knowledge of the past. And I watched Empire before A New Hope without confusion.

TL;DR - Enjoy the movie for what it is, don't get hung up on continuity details.

If it involves time travel then maybe they can back themselves out of the plot corner they were left in with basically every character at the end of X3, it could serve as sort of a soft reboot without completely disregarding the actors and history that have come before, like Star Trek.

This please. I loved the way Star Trek was rebooted and I would love a new fresh X-Men movie with Cyke and everyone (hopefully) done right. This movie is souding better with every bit of news about it imo.

So I am the only one who feels First Class should be kept far far far away from the other X-Men movies? X2 was really good, but am I also alone in feeling the X-Men movie was kinda lousy? Even idealistic 13 year old me thought so when it came out. Stewart is okay as Xavier, but even as a McKellen fan I thought his performance of Magneto was tired. He wasn't nearly as imposing as he is in the comics. Bleh.

Meh, i was kind of hoping we would stay away from the old movies, were already getting Wolverine part 5. I was hoping we would get an actual X-Men movie, like a modern day first class.

I really hope they don't do DoFP without Kitty Pryde. Either way, this piece of news is interesting. We might get to see the original trilogy's cast as well as the XM:FC's since Famke Jensen is reprising her role of Jean in The Wolverine.

Am i the only one who thinks Ian McKellen just isnt a good magneto. he looks more like he needs to go into a senior citizen home rather than leading a band of mutants. I enjoy his acting but sometimes I just feel like he looks too weak

@darkwingdan: personally, XMFC was probably my favorite Marvel movie (pre-Avengers), but with how much they played with the character origins and personalities, I would almost go far as to say it could only be taken as a stand-alone film. However, people may not remember the photos for First Class that all-but-confirmed that Oliver Platt was scheduled to play none other than Doctor Sinister. I'm going to hold off judgment, but I still say that if Patrick and Sir Ian do anything more than a cameo, I'll be surprised.

also, trying really hard to refrain from making an off-colour 'Two-and-a-Half Men' joke about Professor Xavier. :P

@LoganRogue24: i reall really really really hope she doesnt. The one thing (among many) that "first class" definitely had, was amazing acting...except for January Jones. At no point did she display herself as a strong willed and seductive individual. I am not saying that i do not like her as an actress, i just dont like her as Emma Frost. The White Queen is supposed to be retardedly attractive, and January Jones is just...eh, okay. There are way more gorgeous women in Hollywood than she, and most of them can all act better than she can. January Jones was my only issue with First Class. This is, of course, just my opinion.

Bring in Hugh Jackman and im sold, honestly he is the only person i can see as Wolverine now with the possible exception of young Clint Eastwood. Very interested to see how this turns out.

YES! Now we just have to hope its better than first class, and since he directed X2 there's a good chance it will be. I don't care for Jennifer Lawrence, she was annoying and didn't represent mystique well. But I'm very happy to have Ian and Patrick back. They are X-Men legends!

I can't contain myself. Hope they retcon X-Men 3 out of existence as some kind of bad dream.
