I Want You To Kick Ass!

Even more posters for the movie...

The first news article I did way back in January was about how my movie theater was looking more and more like my spinner rack. Though there’s been a long history of a movie's marketing campaign changing depending the region, I can’t help but conceive of these new KICK-ASS posters from Empire as being “limited-edition variants.”

They’re basically the same as the posters we showed you recently - - even using mostly the same production photos - - but there are some key differences. Obviously, the paint-splatter graffiti motif has been substituted with a more NY Times bestseller red gradient backdrop. Also, Big Daddy’s pose is different. Will anybody hazard a guess as to why? And lastly, there’s a one-sheet for mob boss Frank d’Amico, which I’m sure has been added since the actor Mark Strong is a bigger star in the UK. I do have to wonder why the title wasn't changed to KICK-ARSE for UK audiences (ha ha ha?).

The poster madness doesn’t end there, oh no. MTV’s got this Uncle Sam-inspired one that’ll be the first of three limited-edition designs to debut at this year’s South by Southwest festival. If you happen to be in Austin next week and feel so inclined, you’ll be able to check out a festival-opening screening of the movie as well as see a panel with the cast, crew and creators ( Millar & Romita Jr.)
