Hugh Jackman in Talks to Play Wolverine Again in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'

The cast for the sequel to 'X-Men: First Class' is getting bigger and bigger.

Yesterday we got some crazy news. Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen were reprising their roles as Professor X and Magneto in the sequel to X-Men: First Class. That might sound odd considering James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are returning to play those roles as well. Because the movie is called X-Men: Days of Future Past, we can assume time travel and future counterparts will be a big factor. To make things even crazier, now it sounds like Hugh Jackman will return to play Wolverine one more time.

The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog is exclusively reporting that Jackman is in negotiations to play Wolverine for seventh time (the first three X-Men films, Wolverine Origins and the cameo in First Class).

We'll have to wait and see if this all works out. We also have to wonder which other original X-Men film actors might make a return as well.

Sounds like this is going to be the X-Men version of The Avengers

@HempKnight757: Honestly I will never understand his decision for doing that. Why the hell would you go from being one of the main superheroes in a blockbuster hit to just being a side character in another superhero film!

Posted by RedheadedAtrocitus

Well this was to be expected, quite honestly. Don't see how they would have carried the Days of Future Past story without using Logan.

Can we get Ellen Page too, please? Daniel Cudmore as Colossus would be cool as well.

If you're going to stick Colossus in the movie please cut out Cudmore. Dude said like three things in two movies.

How awesome if old Logan shows up in the future.

Should be an interesting movie. I thought First Class exceeded all expectations, and I'm hoping this next installment keeps the train rolling. With a team like the X-Men and all the available source material, it's easy to get overly ambitious, and announcements like this bring a nervous excitement. This second set of movies should focus on the relationship between Professor X and Magneto, so hopefully they don't give Jackman tons of screen time if he is cast. He is getting another stand alone movie anyway

It'd be tough to do it right without Logan.

Once again im left confused to if first class was a reboot or an actual prequel.

a part of me hoped it was a reboot just erase X3 and Origins

Posted by DaltonMunnal

@Novemberx2:

Both. They called it a prequel because it takes place at the very beginning, but it's also clearly a reboot as there are so many contradictions that they had to clearly know they were making. Now they are going to use a time travel story line to presumably fix the contradictions and make all of the movies canon. Including The Wolverine which is said to take place after X3.

I wonder if they'll bring back that God-Awful Shadowcat... The only other X-Men I want back are Iceman, Storm, Colossus (could do with some development), an older Beast (might as well use the Last Stand portrayal) and Rogue. One thing I wonder is that since the continuity is F'd up, how is this story gonna work? I would rather time-travelling than alternate-dimension travelling (like in the comics)...

The ideal story would be for a young Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman, Angel and Beast (who is already part of the movie) to stumble upon the original trilogy's cast in a DotFP-like catastrophe in our time. Sure there will be some problems with continuity but DotFP is an alternate reality/future. That way the 70s setting and the time traveling makes sense.

I still refuse to ever watch X-MEN FIRST CLASS partly becasue of how ill cast Emma Frost was and what they did to Mystique.

What did they do to Mystique?

That is interesting. I was kind of hoping for a reboot anyway but I dont think you could find a better Wolverine than Hugh Jackman. I was also in love with Famke as Jean Grey and Halle Berry as Storm though Im not sure who you grab to play their younger counterparts. As far as Cyclops goes i always thought the guy from Hawaii 5-0 would make a good one. I'd rather Iceman not be a kid in school with Rogue (who they could recast also). In fact Rogue's story should be interwoven in the storyline.

I assumed Hugh Jackman wold be a big part of this movie ever since they revealed it would be Days of Future Past. You can't have DoFP without Wolverine, and with Jackman playing the role in a cameo in First Class, you can't really use a different actor. But Ian Mckellan and Patrick Stewart come as a nice surprise.

No. So, can you elaborate?

ellen page...please...ellen page!

Posted by FoxxFireArt

@sora_thekey:

Mystique was not one of the first X-Men. She's well over 100 years old, if not more so. She didn't grow up with Xavier like a sister. She's not some timid little girl who wants to fit in, and she's only loyal to herself.

I know in movies a character can't be exactly like the comics, but that's no excuse for her being nothing like the character she's based upon. I like both Emma and Mystique, and this one movie fails at both of them.

Mystique was awesome in X-MEN: SUPERNOVAS. X-MEN: BLINDED BY THE LIGHT follows that, then it's X-MEN: MESSIAH COMPLEX.

Posted by Hoarderofhilarity

I just want a good colossus tbh.

Posted by sora_thekey

@FoxxFireArt: The movie shows the evolution of this character you're describing to the characters in the comics. I'll agree with you on the Emma front but Mystique's evolution of her character was very well played.

Posted by FoxxFireArt
@sora_thekey
So, spending 90% of the movie showing her how she's not is justified?? How do you evolve her not being Xavier's step-sister. She's suppose to be older that him and Magneto put together.

This movie does little more to the character than try to tie itself to the previous movie version.

These movies can't even bring themselves to make Xavier bald because of the actor.
Posted by sora_thekey

@FoxxFireArt: Considering that these are minor details about the movie and ties to the comic books (in my opinion), I overlook them. It's impossible to ask for comic book adaptations to be exactly the same as the original story. So we shouldn't have such high expectations...

Posted by FoxxFireArt
@sora_thekey
Mystique spending the majority of the movie being nothing like how the character is in the original concept isn't a minor change.

Just like with Emma, they made a completely different character and just gave her the same name.
Posted by sora_thekey

@FoxxFireArt: Not necessarily true. January Jones did an awful job to play Emma Frost, but as far as the character goes it was completely accurate to the comics. Following the characterization of her Hellfire days, of course.

On the other hand, Jennifer Lawrence played a very awesome character that became the Mystique we all know from the comics. A character that although is not completely true to its comic book counterpart it was accurate in this alternate-reality/dimension/version of the X-Men mythos.
