Huge BATMAN INC #8 Spoilers Officially Released

The events of this issue are sure to have a huge impact on Batman. Don't proceed if you don't want spoilers!

Proper spoiler etiquette is apparently a rare quality nowadays..

Grant Morrison has promised that BATMAN INC #8 will be a huge issue for Batman and Damian. We've all speculated over what would happen, but today -- 2 days before the issue's release -- the NY Post released a preview and interview with the writer which reveals what is apparently its biggest moment. Having that information buried in the article itself wouldn't be be a big deal -- especially with a spoiler warning -- but it's not. You don't even need to look beyond the headline to have the full impact of the issue taken away from you. I guess this could be used to lure in non-comic readers to buy the issue, but I can't help but feel as though that's just blatantly disregarding the current comic fans and they could have easily reworked the headline to make it still seem like a huge issue without flat-out saying the specific spoiler.

No Caption Provided

If you really want to know what happens, then click the following spoiler box or the link below.

== TEASER ==

Morrison tells the site, "He saves the world. he does his job as Robin. He dies an absolute hero." It appears Damian will die fighting his cloned "brother," the Heretic. You know, the huge dude that obliterated Batman.

Again, the NY Post article has the spoiler in it's headline, so don't click it if you don't want to know! If you do discuss this below, please make proper use of spoiler tabs. This is something we've all speculated and assumed. Now it's been confirmed.

What are you talking about? Rowling owns Harry Potter. Morrison does not own Damian. He created him for DC comics. Unless Morrison has a unique contract, DC owns the character. It's selfish to kill off a character that adds a lot to the mythos just because he doesn't want anyone writing him after he leaves the Bat books. If every creator did that, we'd never have any new long-term characters.

@Lorrie: So the writer of harry potter is selfish because he doesn t let anyone to write about his character. Or all the other writers are selfish for that. Morrison write him he can do whatever he wants with it because he is his idea. you should been praising him because he created that character and you should honor his death if you liked the character

It's selfish. If DC had any sense they'd undo it as quickly as Marvel retconned Magneto being Xorn, but Didio does hate legacy characters so the death could stick. It's not even an original idea. I remember when Jason died. It will create short-term controversy at the cost of removing a genuinely entertaining character from the canvas.

Morrrison's been planning his death for about seven years. This wasn't the editor's idea.

It would have been much more dramatic if Damian died in Death of the Family. Instead, he dies in Batman Inc, which I haven't even been reading. Dog !@#$ing #$%@! it.

But Damian was created by Morrison and has been crucial to his story, so it makes sense that he kills him of. Plus also by the sounds of things it was planned from the moment he was created.

What!???? Whyyyyyy did he do that! I love Damian!

In that case though, I feel much better about it.

I'm still not happy about it but if anyone's doing it it should be him

Soo all the ''future'' indications and such ...and we get this. Well I suppose I kinda knew this wouldn't last for long. Comic editors hate to have long term ties and want to cut it out as soon as possible.

We also know that NOONE is safe from the ''boost sales'' resurrection though...soo there.

@Lorrie: Your post was a fascinating read. However I would like to point out that this is not the first time Morrison has emulated other events at Batman's expense, however all we can expect now is some form of "A Lonely Place of Dying" to occur. Honestly I didn't like that story in the 80's and can't imagine how to live through it again. All I do is to read the book somewhere and never buy a single issue with Morrison's name on it until someone else takes over then I can resume. Kind of annoying to have to protest this way, but hey....

@havoc1201: Always great posts...

If Damian stays dead for awhile (though I hope he won't), they'll have to replace him in Batman and Robin. I would HATE to see a new Robin. I'd rather see the return of Tim Drake as Robin since he's grossly under used, or Stephanie Brown. I don't care about that new girl, and I don't want to see them shoe horn in another new character.

I just want batman to start killing, putting a permanent end to his villains after this event. He deserves to, after the tragedy he's gone through.

That would pretty much go against every moral Bruce has been trying to instill in Damian since the two met.

@sheldipez: Fair point. Although I don't like the idea of him dying I think it should be a while, as there are too many comic deaths that are changed soon. Look at Jason he was dead for years and that really help his character development.

This, sir, is the funniest statement I've read all day. Thank you.

Hopefully they kill him in a way that does the character justice, so that no one will want to bring him back. While I've grown fond of the character over the last six months or so, It's important to know that he was a character created with the intent of killing him off, so as long as they do it right I'll be satisfied.

How was the statement funny? Just wondering, as I don't really see it, unless it's due to it being an obvious point

I'm not pissed off us such. Just not that interested in reading a story where a 9 year old boy dies. Kind of feel it would have worked better to have Jason die saving Damo. Anyways. Loosing his son in this way kills the batman character in his current form. He goes from always winning to the ultimate lose. A child. This is vastly more destructive than loosing ones prevents.

If Bruce adopts a new Robin anytime in the near future I will not be pleased. Not out of respect for Damian, though that too, but because it would just be unrealistic. It was stretching it enough to introduce Tim Drake after what happened to Jason. A man can only put so many minors in costumes' lives at risk before he says enough is enough.

And the death of another Robin (this time a 10-year-old child) destroys my ability to care about Batman. Really, Bruce literally shouldn't be able to live with himself. Even as an 11 year old, I found it hard to believe Bruce could just go on being Batman and get a new Robin after Jason was murdered. As an adult, I can't imagine him not going insane knowing the life he chose killed his 10 year old child. He should kill himself or end up locked in an institution (or go supervillain, since getting your child killed sounds like an origin story to me), but we know he won't. If Damian genuinely stays dead, he'll probably have a new Robin in a year.

this. all of this. it's become pretty sad how because a certain writer created a character, they believe they have entire say over what happens to said character.

like the writer of shatterstar (i believe it was liefield, but i'm not sure) when he found out they made shatterstar gay. once a character is out there, it sort of belongs to the audience just as much. so he didn't kill damian during that arc some time ago? good. the character evolved, something that's hard to do in comics. it's been an interesting ride as well. so, kill him because it'll produce shock? yes, people are probably right, it could be a lazarus pit. but it's just pointless. if he dies, and talia lives, i call bullshit. no mother, even fictional ones, should be seen as killing their children and surviving, let along being ok with it. morrison has bee phoning it in to me since before the new 52 started so this all just seems petty and dark. i'm for the tales that seem grim a la DotF and such, but this was something where i believed good should win. this whole story got a little ridiculous and blown out of proportion, and it now comes at the cost of losing a character that left a pretty decent mark. shame.

This is f'kin ridiculous. They should let Jason die if they wanna kill off a Robin.

First his parents, then Jason Todd, then his BROTHER, now his little 10 year old son, who really loves him ( they have a great father-son bond ). Batman needs to become a villain after this and give the do-gooders a serious headache. The no-kill code is obsolete after this, IMHO.

I really hope the death is not permanent. This is my favorite robin and far, far better than the female robins ( LOL Harper Row) or even Dick/Jason/Tim.

Just bullshit by GM.

I'm done with Batman & Robin after Damian dies.

If you asked me yesterday or a week ago (well before reading this BS) I would have said that despite all the critical praise and claims that the sun shines out of Grant Morrisons butt - Batman Inc is a cluttered mess of confusion. And his decision regarding Damien should not effect ANY other titles. Thats all I have to say.

Interesting that this would come out so soon after Death of the Family. What's even more interesting is that this was originally meant to come out before DotF ended. Remember, Batman, Inc. has been a month behind ever since issue 3 was delayed after the Aurora shooting.

I say this as a huge Damian fan, but I hope they do not bring him back, ever again. I want to see Bruce deal with his son dying, essentially on his watch, until they reboot the DC universe again in 20-30 years. Between his Mom and Dad, Jason, Barbara getting paralyzed, and his own son dying, if Bruce is up and properly functioning again in a couple months I will seriously reconsider reading Batman stories in the future, as I will assume any tease of him "going over the edge" will simply be a lie.

I've been hearing that, and I totally dislike Morrison for doing this. Does this guy have the authority at Dc to pull the trigger on any character he chooses. I mean the guy has done a little damage to put it lightly on major characters at Dc. I hope they bring Damian back swiftly,I like the character. It's a shame what comics will do for sales.

Grant Morrison CREATED Damian. If anyone has the right to kill him, it's GM. And as it was mentioned earlier, Damian was originally going to die during Batman and Son. He was living on borrowed time.

Will I miss Damian? Yes. A lot.

Do I hold any of this against Grant? Heck no. The man knows what he's doing.

I hope they bring him back, just started getting used to him.

Killing Damian to make his series end with a shock is so cheap and its lazy writing killing a main character in comics is a over used cliche that writers use bc they have no clue how to end their run with creativity. and then he goes and tells the secret before it comes out?
