Guillermo del Toro Working On DC 'Dark Universe' Movie

Ron Perlman or Brendan Fraser for Swamp thing. Make it happen.

I prefer a Swamp Thing solo film.

But this is better than nothing.

Sounds cool, Del Toro is pretty damn good.

Didn't Del Toro originally want to make a solo Deadman movie? Regardless, I would love to see a film like this with him behind it and a writer he apparently is very confidant with.

Awesome! I love Del Toro and think he can do wonders to the DC Dark.

I think this could be really good. I'm quite new to comics, but I've been really enjoying Justice League Dark from the start. Anyone got any thoughts on casting?

I kind of feel like Matt King(Super Hans from Peep Show) could make a good John Constantine, but I've only read JLD and a handful of issues of Hellblazer, so I am totally willing to be told that I'm wrong.

I love big G's work, but I really hope he gets Hellboy III in the bag before Ronny gets too old to do the role.

This news is really cool. Del Toro is the perfect guy to work on a JLD movie, as evidenced by his Hellboy films. I only hope that this project actually gets off the ground. Del Toro has a reputation for attaching his name to far more projects than he can handle.

As far as a writer goes, I'm sure they won't even consider using Lemire, but they really should. His work on the book would translate very well to live action.

Based on the characters, speculation is that the movie will be based on the Alan Moore Swamp Thing story where Constantine started so other possible characters are Phantom Stranger, Dr Fate, Dr Occult, Sargon the Sorcerer, Baron Winters : http://www.comics.org/issue/41601/cover/4/

Yeah, still waiting on Hellboy 3. Which hopefully he'll feel obliged to do before this, otherwise it could be decades before we see closure to that franchise.

This is sad news because del Toro needs to be working on the final piece to the Hellboy trilogy! I mean, now that Mignola killed off Hellboy, it should be okay for him to do it in the movies (wasn't that always the problem? that it wouldn't be right to upstage Mike?).

Also, I don't like this idea of making movies based off of comics that don't exist or haven't established themselves rather than drawing from the classics, it's one thing to come up with a new concept but to market some retcon as what has earned these character a movie seems wrong. I mean, I'm all for keeping things unique but all this is going to be is The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen II (which I actually enjoyed the first one when I first saw it but not in the context of the comic).
