According to the official character synopsis, Ronan in this film is a Kree warrior, religious extremist, and leader of the Kree army who is at war with the Nova Corps planet. He makes a deal with Thanos that if he brings him the object that Starlord stole from Korath (The infinity stone) than Thanos will grant him the power to end his war and wipe out the Nova Corps once and for all.

Its a movie with a Machine Gun wielding Raccoon and a Talking Tree as main characters, there's no way in hell it'd have any chance at success if they played it straight.

I have said it before and I'll say it again, this will be Marvel's best movie.

@the_stegman: The movie has a 80s rock inspired soundtrack, and is supposed to be a fun sci fi flick rather than a hardcore serious one, so "epic" isn't what they are going for.

Well yea it is kinda important. His creator intended him to be British and his name is a reference to a Beatles song. Do you think people would be upset if Iron Man was Irish?

I thought Yondu was gonna be in this trailer as per james Gunn. Did anyone spot him? Because i sure didn't.

Changing a human's nationality, means changing a lot of who he is. Debating the nationality of a human is different than debating the nationality of an animal. A Raccoon at the end of the day is still a Raccoon. Rocket can still be the same character despite his accent.

Actually, I looked it up and the name Stark is derived from Scotch-English, which is practically a short boat ride from being Irish anyway.

But yeah, back to the point at hand, this trailer is crazy. The fact that Knowhere is in this movie is confirmation that the Celestials exist in this universe. THE GO**AMN CELESTIALS! Really think about the scope that implies.

Not sold on the obligatory Quill/Gamora romance, though. I mean if there are two people with WAAAAAY better things to do, it's them.

But overall, yeah, pretty stoked for this movie.

Aren't the prices for DVD's more then a movie ticket?

And yet it still takes away from the British representation, if an alien racoon is all we can get then we're taking it. You might be ok with the Americanization of every character but I am not.

It's completely in both there characters to get it on. Nova and Gamora were doing the same thing during the Annihilation War.

But I'm not a stickler for details. I just care about the overall picture. If Captain America's looks, character, and personality being represented 100% means having a Jersey accent.....than yeah, I can handle that.

Even though once again, it's different because Captain America is a human and humans are a diverse species. Raccoon's aren't. Captain America is who he is because he's a patriotic American, Rocket is who he is because he's an angry, spitful, Raccoon....and oh look at that, he's a angry, spitful, raccoon.

Whoever is charge of picking the music for the trailer did a great job here. First Marvel movie to interest me in a while.

Well, now you're just putting words into my mouth that I didn't say.

I'm not saying that Americanizing Rocket Raccoon is better than having him be British, I'm saying that at the end of the day. It doesn't really matter. Because being British isn't what the character is about. If being British was a defining character trait, than I would be angry that British "characters" weren't getting fairly represented. If Captain Britain was announced to be played by Matthew McConaughey, than I'd be angry.

But whether or not the space Raccoon is or is not British doesn't matter. Being an angry sarcastic raccoon is what the character is all about. Everything else it just petty details or nit-picking.

Does it fricking matter if he isn't speaking British...my god get over it and they are fighting Ronan obviously. He makes a deal with thanos,thanos gets the gem and Ronan gets to see all of nova world people killed its a religion thing for his kind(this is not a spoiler bc it was already talked about)

If it's so defining, than how is it that so far all of his incarnations for various media (specially those horrible TV shows like Ultimate Spider-man and Avenger's Assemble) are exactly the same in terms of character attitudes and personality as his other appearances in media (MVC3, Lego Marvel Heroes).

There's no difference between the two other than his accent. He's still the same character.

But at this point, shall we just agree to disagree and continue on with our lives?

Anyone else think that last line was a joke about how this movie is unbelievably risky and people were saying it was a bad idea that wouldn't work on film and now everyone is hyped as frack for the movie?

My only gripe is Rockets voice actor. Not for stupid unbelievably nitpick reasons that it's not the accent that he was made to have even though that is not a key essential element to the character it adds absolutly nothing to the character and making any sort of deal over it is being a nitpicky comic book purist i'm sorry but that's being a purist. The problem with the voice is for one thing it doesn't sound like a smarta** but also the voice is so inconsistant it sounds different in all three lines of dialogue he has.

Why are people so insistent that the alien Raccoon has to be British? There's gotta be a valid reason other than comic book fans just being nit-picky?
