Green Lantern (The Movie) Will Be In 3-D

Warner Bros. is definitely on the 3-D wagon.

No Caption Provided

Word just got out that the Green Lantern movie will be in 3-D. Whether you like 3-D or despise it, it's here to stay. More and more movies are being released in 3-D. With the success of Avatar, it's really no surprise.

Speaking of Avatar, I thought that would've been a subpar movie without the 3-D effects. The only reason I did see it was so I could experience it that way rather than wait until it was released on Blu-ray. Now imagine how cool a 3-D Green Lantern movie could be. I like the 3-D movies. I think this is great news. The only thing that would make it better is if a scene like this appears in the movie:

No Caption Provided

Don't ask why, just enjoy it. And you might as well embrace the fact that more and more movies will be released in 3-D. Maybe I should go and read that issue of Green Lantern in 3-D. I actually have it sitting in my garage for some reason.

The movie will be released on June 17, 2011. What are your thoughts on Green Lantern in 3-D, yay or nay?

I agree fully with you, but my overall point was that there were still pirate copies of Avatar which were copied from the 2D exhibitions, and the fact that the 2D version was sold out, at least in my city, goes to show that people don't really care all that much for the 3D, or at the very least that they will settle for 2D. "

Too true, in fact I'm not on bit concerned about 3D unless its a marquee film such as Avatar. Any other film I wouldn't even be bothered paying extra for the gimmick.

I am, however, very concerned that movies may be made in a way that relies on 3D as a crutch meaning that the 2D version suffers because of it. I can see very promising 'good on paper' films being ruined because of studio execs/directors pushing to get 3D into a film

It is possible to watch 3D at home. 3D movies are released on DVD, they normally come provided with a pair (sometimes two pairs) of glasses. So the idea that epople will go to see it at the cinema because it's the only place where they can see 3D isn't true.

Yes but have you seen any pirates down the local pub selling a blag DVD with a set of 3d glasses??? The 3D factor has given people a reason to go the cinema to see a movie as it's supposed to 'add to the experience'   In my opinion though, it's a gimmick and in the same way many people have got HD tv's but not upgraded to Bluray & HD receivers, a lot of people will be just as apathetic to 3D tv.  "

I think that the only thing that should be 3D are the constructs. Everything else should be normal.

Interesting.  If what you say is true, then it wouldn't surprise me if studios start fighting in-home 3D.  If the only place you can go to see a movie in 3D is a movie theater, and if 3D can't be displayed in a manner on computer or TV screens that is visually appealing to the viewer, then studios may have found their best anti-piracy weapon.    Imagine that: a solution to piracy that involves embracing technology, rather than avoiding it.  A couple of companies are making 120hz screens that can do 3D, but I don't imagine them being cost effective anytime soon. "
It is possible to watch 3D at home. 3D movies are released on DVD, they normally come provided with a pair (sometimes two pairs) of glasses. So the idea that epople will go to see it at the cinema because it's the only place where they can see 3D isn't true. Avatar made so much cash because it was a colossal-budget extravaganza with mind boggling (to some) special effects that looked stunning in 2D as well (an interesting point I think is the fact that when I went to see it in 2D, it was sold out). And also because of the monumental hype that was around the contraption.
Give it 5 years and (hopefully) people will wake up to how big a waste of money it is. It doesn't enhance the story, it just points things at you. When I go to see a film, I don't want to have pointy things pointed at me. It's not immersive at all, it's the complete opposite. Plus it gives me a headache.

To summarise: I hate 3D. If they don't release GL in 2D, I quit movies forever (which is problematic considering I'm doing degree in Film and TV).

I'm split on the 3D fad... I like it when it's more there to enhance the viewing, as opposed to the "Holy crap! It's comming right for my face! IT"S 3D!!! AAAHHHH!!" experience that some studios tend to do. So long as the 3D-ness of it is toned down, I have no problem.

YESSSS!!!! Green lantern is the PERFECT superhero movie to put  in 3D because the art of the comic book itself has always been very creative and animated.  This will be awesome

Ah 3D.  15 minutes of coping with disorientation, followed by 15 minutes of "oooh, pretty", concluded by an hour or so of forgetting that the movie is in 3D to begin with.

I'm generally not a fan of 3D movies, I think they tend to try too hard and it fails. But Green Lantern is the perfect movie for this. (: the 3D constructs will look awesome.
