Green Lantern Episode 1.18 'Prisoner of Sinestro' Review

SINESTRO!!!! Need I say more?
Green Lantern aims for suspense similar to John Carpenter's The Thing as an alien assassin boards the Interceptor and everyone starts to act erratically. While it is mostly a predictable episode, 'Prisoner of Sinestro' still manages to amuse and has a surprisingly powerful moment. Oh, and did I mention this episode introduces SINESTRO?! Thankfully, Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy) does a solid job with the legendary character's voice.
While it's thrilling to see Sinestro on the show, he doesn't truly have a chance to shine until the show's conclusion. That's unfortunate -- especially considering how amusing Guy Gardner's cameo was -- but his final moments without question pack quite a wallop. The show often has a lighter tone to it, so having such a strong moral conflict was a brilliant change of pace. Additionally, the opening ship battle was a solid dose of popcorn fun, drawing strong parallels to the attack on the Death Star. Meanwhile, Kilowog's blunt nature always managers to give me a laugh or two.
The scene with an erratic Razer was twisted while also being rather fascinating. Aya's elaboration just further reminds us how different the two are, so it makes me wonder where the creative team plans to go with this potential relationship. I know it's just a kids show, so it'll likely be quite innocent if it does move forward, yet I can't help but feel just a bit weirded out wondering about it. I know a lot of people are creeped out by Donatello's feelings for April in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but at least the feelings aren't mutual over there, so I see no chance of that relationship developing into something more. Here... well, I have no idea where it'll go. For now, I view this side plot both a good and bad thing. It's certainly odd but watching Aya continue to "evolve" is engrossing. Like I said before, the story is predictable right from the get-go, but it still follows through in a pretty fun manner. That said, having Sinestro spell out the course of events felt forced, especially since it wasn't tough to follow at all. Also, he escapes with just a pocket knife? I get that's only the science cell, but we're talking about something they use as a holding cell in the most advanced ship they have. However, when Thaal does break free, his solution to the problem was great and the alien assassin's conclusion was particularly sharp. That's the Sinestro moment I was waiting for the whole episode and it totally delivered.
'Prisoner of Sinestro' serves as an enjoyable episode. It's by no means a great episode, but Sinestro's final scene is powerful and, despite it being painfully obvious, the conflict provides a more than adequate amount of entertainment. I just hope this isn't the last time we see Sinestro!
@BlackWind: The X-Men meets the Fantastic Four (premiered in the early sixties, and there's a debate about whether they're a rip-off of the X-Men, or vice-versa). Robotman (a superstrong, Grimm-Thing-like robot), Negative Man (shapeshifter made of antimatter), and the other two slip my mind. They were Beast Boy's original team, before the Teen Titans, and just disappeared. Don't think DC's ever revealed what happened to the others beyond a reasonable doubt.
Despite how I feel about the animation of this show I hope to see Thaal get a Qwardian ring. That aside I don't think I will enjoy the story till Razer looses the red lantern ring. And dawns some other lantern ring etc. This is suppose to be a new chapter that he obviously has a larger roll in. I just hope they don't take to long in doing this. Razer makes for terrible red lantern which was already proven.

Im really liking the Aya and Razer relationship. It's been very innocent so far and I'm thinking they'll keep it that way since it is a kids show. Since it is kept innocent I don't find it that weird.
Am ok with the Aya and Razer having a innocent relationship but it's weird as hell ..... She's a freaking robot, I don't care how smart she is robot's can not develop feelings except for Hal 9000.
ok, good question. i dont like YJ. I cant place my finger on why. maybe it is just me but it feels like a cartoon for 10 and under age grooup. The characters are freakin awesome but i dont like this incarnation.
as for starman (the original), the mood it sets is magical. it takes place under starry nights and he flies and carries a torch. just sounds beautiful. and as for doom patrol, they have alot of potencial. it is a departure from the same old of heros. the team is a good combination of characters. i think they predate the xmen and i feel they can be just as popular. besides, all us comic junkies are waiting for them in the new 52. this can be where they make their appearance.
Imo it was poorly done, but that's just me, as far as Sinestro goes I would of liked a quick introduction in Season One. This episode, I don't know, I just couldn't keep my full attention on it, and often found my mind wandering off. I think for me this show doesn't hit my nerd button hard enough, while I do like GL, I tend to like GL corp, I like John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and anything Green Lantern New Guardians-esque especially Kyle Rayner. Where this lantern series seemed to kind of go on a "new guardian" arc, I really don't like Hal Jordan, in almost anything unfortunately... and I find myself a fan of all background characters in this show especially, cause I feel like Hal Jordan is just so marty sue. Love Razer, love Killowag of course poozers, but Hal Jordan and Carol, I'm over it in a way. Just my opinion, still like the show, I just think not for the reasons they want me too. I would love a Green Lantern Corps show. Teach kids we distrust the guardians a little.
Young justice stinks! I know it is very popular and it is a show probably not meant for me, but i think it needs to be taken off the air and replaced with a doom patrol show or a starman or wonder woman show. Yj just doesnt interest me. I dont know what it is because I like superboy, cassie, miss martian and nightwing and cheshire, lex, sportsmaster. The show is just BORING!

Agreed, I don't find it to be creepy at all. People seem to think it'll blossom into something bigger when it seems clear April has zero romantic interest in him.
It's clear that it's going to play into Casey's debut in Season 2 where Donny will obviously become jealous of him and Raph will think he's the coolest ever.
I'm thinking Casey was the boy that owned Leatherhead as a baby.
I like the aya/ razor rrlationship. I dont like aya's costume. I think it is too sexy. Yeah, its nice to look at but it takes away from concentrating on the mission. If I was hal, kilowog or razor, I would have my mind only on one thing

As much as I love Ron Perlman’s voice, I always feel he’s bland when it comes to different voices (much like Kevin Michael Richardson or Jason Marsden). You can obviously tell he’s playing Sinestro even if you didn’t check the information online.
That aside this was a pretty solid episode. It was great to see hints about Sinestro’s true “dark” nature.

I love Rob Pearlman, he was great as Slade. Mark Strong's performance as Sinestro in the GL movie was the one highlight. Wish he could have done the voice instead. Gave him a bit of a regal quality I thought.

And this is a comic book show. We've been covering them for awhile now (The Walking Dead, Ninja Turtles, Arrow) and we also comic book movies.
