GREEN ARROW Gets a New Creative Team in October

CW's Arrow writers to take over on the book.

Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino's run on GREEN ARROW is coming to an end. On October 1st, issue #35 of GREEN ARROW will come out with a whole new creative team. However, these names will be familiar to those who watch and enjoy the CW's television series Arrow.

The LA Times announced today that Arrow executive producer Andrew Kreisberg and writer Ben Sokolowski will have their shot to expand the audience of the hit television series into comics by writing GREEN ARROW. The two will be writing the series while Daniel Sampere (BATGIRL) will be providing the art.

Issue #35 will place Oliver Queen back in Seattle and have him involved in an adventure with a mysterious woman. Both Kreisber and Sokolowski say that their Green Arrow will not be an adaptation of the CW show, but it will be more about "cross-pollination." Sokolowski told the LA Times this about their upcoming run on the book:

“We really want to bring the old-school Oliver Queen voice back to the character. In other words, the opinionated, liberal Robin Hood-esque hero that has fallen through the cracks a bit, both in the comics and TV models.”

Since Lemire and Sorrentino took over on GREEN ARROW #17, the book has been a smashing success at DC and brought in new readers in droves. Their run on the book introduced fans to a darker version of the character, dealing with ghosts from his past.

However, there are 2 million regular viewers for the CW Arrow series and there is a lot of hope that viewers who love said series will jump over to the comic book because it features Sokolowski and Kreisberg.

The new creative team takes over on October 1st, with issue #35.

So many butthurts and fake fans on here. So you're not going to support your favorite character just because DC hired a new creative team? Wow. Absolutely no words. You haven't even read the issue yet. Comic fans always dismiss something without checking it out first.

They have done it again and again. It isn't surprising that the actual talented are abandoning the big two and go indepentent. And why wouldn't they, more control over your work both creatively and economically.

Of course the creative team was going change, when doesn't it? This is the inevitable result of running books continuously forever without end for no other purpose than making money.

Because we want more and the writer said he was only halfway through? So we will only get the unfinished product? It is DC saying screw the writer's plans, screw the fanbase who loves it and lets put the creative team for the show with hope we might get some sales. Which is doubtfull considering there was a Green Arrow comic based on the Tv show and it is one of the fastest cancelled comics I remember.

When has DC ever cared about what you want, and why do you still expect creative freedom on titles? You know how it goes; management ultimately calls the shots, not creators.

Well this is a pretty big bummer. I like Arrow, but I really loved what Lenore and Sorrentino were doing with the book. I'm definitely pulling the book off of my pull for now. If the new team does good work, I'll read it in trade.

I keep hearing that DC will make promises to writers and artists about the freedom they'll have and then after they get the contracts signed, DC will reneg on all those promises. I wonder if that's what happened here. That's what Diggle said about his AC.

Given the writing quality of the couple of episodes of Arrow I've watched, I'm sorry for the fans of this book.

I bet that tweet is more of a PR move as directed by DC. As other users pointed out above Lemire said he was about halfway through his intended story. But there is a possibility of DC trying to make drastic creative changes to their story and rather than do that Lemire and Sorrentino "left on their own terms" just like Andy Diggle did.

Really curious whats next for Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino. Maybe if DC announced a Doom Patrol or Martian Manhunter series with these guys it would take the sting out a bit.

Hopefully, because this is devastating.

With the way Sorrentino does the Count Vertigo pages, his artwork would look phenomenal with Manhunter's mindf###ing and stretching. I'm also kind of hoping for Catwoman-- they saved one crappy book, why not another?

Oh that would be so cool! Sorrentino definitely needs to do a MM book. Lemire said on Twitter it was his and Andrea's idea to leave the book and that something would be announced soon.

I'm surprised so many people are against this, since this is so clearly returning Oliver Queen to the character we all knew and loved before the New 52.

Lemire tweet that it was their choice to leave the book. Looking forward to Sorrentino's next work. I didn't enjoy JL United so I may give Lemire's next work a miss.

I enjoy DC characters much more than I do Marvel but I'm seriously going more and more towards dropping all the DC that I buy just to make my point as a consumer that you can't just toss anything at me and expect me to lap it up like some lovesick puppy. This is one of THE best books DC has been putting out and they change it.....I cannot wait to see the rapid sales decrease. I'm starting to understand Jonathan Hickman's comment about "you KNOW how you're gonna be treated at DC...". It must be a well known fact in the comic community that DC treats it's writers and artists poorly. This is a sad day not only for GA fans like myself, but for DC fans as a whole.

Jeez ever the pessimists in the comments section......In saying that it's sad to see Lemire and Sorrentino leave so early, really thought they were gonna be on this book till at least the end of this year. However reading that part about bringing back the old voice of Green Arrow(opinionated, liberal robin hood esque hero) that the writers even acknowledge has not been seen or used a great deal in the tv show and recently in the comics is comforting and sells me on the change. Hopefully they do something great with the series.

Wow. We really don't mean anything to comic companies...

I don't know about other companies but DC really hates its fans.
They always seem to do the opposite from what the fans want. Is it to see how big suckers we are? Is it because we aren't the fans they want? Do they know better than us?I don't know but I bet more than 80% of the changes DC has done in the past 3 years are exactly the opposite of what the fants want.

One more issue from Lemire and Sorrentino and it's over. What f*cking bullsh*t. Didn't Lemire said that he was about at the half of his plan for his run? Must be a editorial push to put the CW writer. I'm so mad right now.

I agree. Someone at Warner Bros. is going to get several emails.

But is obvious that this is a lot of crap!!

Luckily Lemire will keep writing him in JLU and create the Animal Man/Green Arrow bromance.

Lemire said he had long term plans for Green Arrow so I guess he isn't the reason for that change.
Maybe the title wasn't selling good enough for DC so they thought bringing the Arrow staff will also bring sales (I doubt it).
Anyway sad day indeed :(

This is the worst move they can possibly make. Fantastic story and art, and they are bringing in characters from the show as a sign of good faith, but oh no lets get the luke warm writers of Arrow and underwhelming art to bring us something we have already seen before. So unbelievably pissed because this team has been the most consistent out of any DC book right now. ANGER, ANGER AND RAGE!!!!!!!!!!!11
