GREEN ARROW Gets a New Creative Team in October

CW's Arrow writers to take over on the book.

Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino's run on GREEN ARROW is coming to an end. On October 1st, issue #35 of GREEN ARROW will come out with a whole new creative team. However, these names will be familiar to those who watch and enjoy the CW's television series Arrow.

The LA Times announced today that Arrow executive producer Andrew Kreisberg and writer Ben Sokolowski will have their shot to expand the audience of the hit television series into comics by writing GREEN ARROW. The two will be writing the series while Daniel Sampere (BATGIRL) will be providing the art.

Issue #35 will place Oliver Queen back in Seattle and have him involved in an adventure with a mysterious woman. Both Kreisber and Sokolowski say that their Green Arrow will not be an adaptation of the CW show, but it will be more about "cross-pollination." Sokolowski told the LA Times this about their upcoming run on the book:

“We really want to bring the old-school Oliver Queen voice back to the character. In other words, the opinionated, liberal Robin Hood-esque hero that has fallen through the cracks a bit, both in the comics and TV models.”

Since Lemire and Sorrentino took over on GREEN ARROW #17, the book has been a smashing success at DC and brought in new readers in droves. Their run on the book introduced fans to a darker version of the character, dealing with ghosts from his past.

However, there are 2 million regular viewers for the CW Arrow series and there is a lot of hope that viewers who love said series will jump over to the comic book because it features Sokolowski and Kreisberg.

The new creative team takes over on October 1st, with issue #35.

DC must be trying to kill themselves this week. This, ww getting a new creatve team, deathstroke getting another series when he was already canceled and 2 new bat books that both sound horrible.

@jonny_anonymous: Because 20~ is the point where shit gets canceled. I was using another great title that was canceled due to sales as an example.

Them changing creative teams to get more sales is actually better for fans of the character so they'll get to at least see him a little longer. If it keeps decreasing - as said - it won't reach issue 50.

So many butthurts and fake fans on here. So you're not going to support your favorite character just because DC hired a new creative team? Wow. Absolutely no words. You haven't even read the issue yet. Comic fans always dismiss something without checking it out first.

I only picked this title up because I'm a fan of Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino. So is it wrong if I drop the book because they are leaving?

Not saying I like the change, but you can't exactly blame them for trying to increase sales. No body is buying Green Arrow as is.

But at least all 30 of us have our self righteous hatred

True speak. It is sad though that not many are buying GA.

Even if they didn't change teams, it would have been canceled before issue 50. And that's probably a generous estimate.

Companies don't do these things for charity yanno.

Yeah. I mean, I'm reading it, and I love it, so Lemire leaving is a shame, but I'm not gonna nerdrage over it and shun DC and the title, it was bound to happen eventually, who knows, maybe the new team will be good too, only one way to find out.

And with the quality titles becaming more and more rare, I see myself slowly getting away from comics.

Squalleon, really?

Reading comics for superheroes only is a ridiculous crime, shame on you.

Not really. Super-heroes are the only true advantage comics have over other mediums. So it is pretty logical for me to go get my fix on comics rather than wait years for movies or tolerate mediocre shows.

I can find a mystery, spy, action story everywhere. And some other mediums are actually more fitting for those genres than comics (at least I believe so). So no reason for me to go find a mystery, horror comic, when a book can do it much better. Again that is mine opinion and while good indie comics exist, i just prefer other forms more.

That response is irrational, truly.

What makes any genre of story better in a novel than on a comic-book page?

Do words on a page by themselves somehow magically make a story any better than it intrinsically is? The idea that the comic medium is any less suited to storytelling than prose or cinema is nonsense.

I already read Invincible. But I have to say I haven't checked the other stuff.

And I will pick up Higgin's COWL because there is some good hype surrounding it.

Believing that other genres fit other mediums more, which isn't true. You can do anything well with any medium.

This is completely subjective. If you read, you will see that I said again and again that this is my opinion and I prefer that. It was never meant as a general statement or fact.

If DC are starting to frustrate you there's superhero stuff at Image comics and I think Dark horse too if I'm remembering correctly. There's:

Invincible (Image) (really good, I'm reading it myself and recommend it highly if you're not already reading it.)

The Bounce (Image)

Ghost (Dark Horse)

There's more but I'm not too big on superheroes myself so I don't know too many.

@redwingx: Arrow is an entertaining show with good enough writing (at best). The dialog is the show's biggest weakness. I enjoyed the second season, but not the first season. None of it really compares to what Lemire was doing.

@g_man: Call me a conspirasist but I don't buy it :P Everything is too coincidental and because of Lemire's previous statements. I think that is just Lemire playing by DC's rules because he isn't a big enough name to make a stand like Andy Diggle.
But thats because I have lost faith in DC and every time I invest on a title, something happens and a big premature change comes.

Now will I give this a shot, yes, Do I believe it will be good, no but thats because Kreisberg has already worked on Ollie and I was dissapointed.

Lmfao! Yeah because Arrow isn't a horrible TV show with horrible acting and horrible actors?! I'm not even a huge Green Arrow fan but I love Lemire's and Sorrentino's run on the book it's been fantastic and honestly one of the best DC books out. Yeah use creators form the Arrow show because that'll work out well.

Well, seeing as comic books don't require acting, I think the comic won't include your biggest complaint ;)

I like what they have to say about Ollie. At the same time, why isn't their show about that version of Ollie? Lemire made this my favorite DC book. I'm going to be sad to see him leave it. First Azzarello leaves Wonder Woman, not this? Damn you

I feel your pain. DC needs new leadership. Plain and simple. They need people who actually give a damn about Comic readers in charge. People that actually care about quality and art. One more move like this from DC and I drop everything with their name on it. I'm only one guy but I'll keep my $70 a month and give it to Valiant or Image.

They have Bob Harras for editor-in-chief I think we all see the problem right there.

Anyway I may not give DC 70$ a month but even the ones I give will only be spent better.

With Wonder Woman ending, Green Arrow ending, Superman Unchained ending and not caring about Future's End month, I will save a lot money for better use.

That's a shame. I really only started reading the book after I heard how great a job Lemire and Sorrentino were doing. I'm not a huge fan of Ollie or his philosophies so I doubt I will stick around with the book after they leave. Might jump back on if the new creative team has as good of reviews as Lemire/Sorrentino are getting now.

@pperspectiveandreality: @paul2814: Lemire said it was his choice to leave the book. The original LA Times article states that Sokolowski and Kreisberg approached DC about taking over the series. Now you can believe this was a serendipitous coincidence or Lemire and Sorrentino were squeezed out of the equation.
