Grant Morrison's MULTIVERSITY Gets Release Date

Fans prepare for something a long time in the works.

DC Comics announced recently that the wait is over for Grant Morrison's upcoming book MULTIVERSITY. It will be hitting comic book shelves in August. The multi-verse is something DC fans have been clamoring for, especially after getting a sneak peek at one Earth during Morrison's run on ACTION COMICS. It will define DC's New 52 Multiverse and give fans new heroes and villains.

MULTIVERSITY #1: HOUSE OF HEROES will be drawn by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado. It will be the first chapter of the limited series this August. Check out the rest of the info on DC's page.

Awesome!!

They should make sure all the issues are completed before they release the first issue.

Mutliverse book? THAT'S AWESOME!!!!!!

Maybe this means we'll finally get an ULTIMATE DC universe as an ongoing series?!? Now THAT would be awesome.

I can see it now. They can have Superman in this awesome new costume

Yeah Ultimate Superman would have this really great new vibe to him. He focuses on helping and rescuing people first and only intervenes if there is a big bad supervillain running amok. Sure he handles muggings if he's around, but it's the big stuff he handles because he's trying not to look like a harsh alien invader.

And Billy Batson could be this a super edgy kid, who likes to help people and tries his hardest to be nice to people like his hero Superman. Because of this he is chosen to gain the powers of an ancient wizard named Shazam and becomes Captain Thunder, a hero so cheerful and full of childlike wonder that he's sure to connect with modern readers because who doesn't like a kid who's written as a nice kid and not a little snot?

Oh and to really draw in the hip young cool kids, they could have this group called The Titans who used to be sidekicks but grew up and started their OWN superhero team!

Yeah that would be awesome.

@smart_dork_dude: That would be awsome

Seriously I have been BEGGING for something like what I described. Why? It's like Ultimate Marvel. I only like, ONE series from Ultimate Marvel which is Ultimate Spider-Man. Everything else? Yeah it can go rot in a sack for all I care.

At this point in time the only comics I've been reading from DC have been Superman, Wonder Woman on and off, Flash on and off, random Green Lantern stuff, and All-Star Western almost exclusively. Why? Those are the series that don't HURT me to read. I admit it, there are good things about the New 52. The problem is that for every good thing there's about 5 or 6 BAD things to go along with it.

The New 52 is like Ultimate Marvel. Good ideas, good concepts, maybe even great series(Seriously I really DO like Superman's comic, but even that had to grow on me), but overall it's a hot mess.

Unlike Ultimate Marvel however there's nowhere to escape it. I can't just not read anything related to it and go to the regular universe like I can with Marvel because that universe no longer exists!

The LEAST they could do is create a close approximation of the old universe, fix the problems it had toward the end, and make series based around THAT!

@smart_dork_dude: wait you never liked the Ultimates, or are not excited for Ultimate FF?

See this looks awesome and sounds super interesting but its Morrison. Literally the worst writer there is. If I can stomach it I'll read or maybe wait for the trade, either I'm skeptical.

I wish this came out pre-reboot when originally announced but I guess it's good we're finally getting it.

@smart_dork_dude: Agreed on the Teen Titans, disagree about everything else. For one, the red trunks were lame. Thank God they nixed them. Also, I really don't get this whole "New 52 Superman comes off a harsh alien invader" thing you're throwing out there. The only thing I could really think of that fits that description would be the beginning of Morrison's Action Comics, but...that's actually a good representation of Golden Age Superman. He was really into knocking down people's walls to fight social injustices, even when it wasn't always necessary.

But...read Pak's Action Comics. Its actually pretty close to the benevolent and tempered Superman of the Pre-New 52 that you remember.

Also, in regards to Billy Batson, don't you realize that Billy's personality is essentially meant to be an evolving point. Johns purposefully made Billy seem like a snot who didn't care about anyone else because its supposed to contrast the end point, that shows Billy opening up and accepting the Vasquez's as his family. I mean...its pretty obvious. Its called character development, dude.

Yeah, but the New 52 Teen Titans....those are a mess. Although, that's more so Lobdell's writing than anything else.

I don't know why people are so down on Morrison. I've enjoyed the stories that he writes. They're deep, rich, and offers different takes on the characters he writes. He's usually not cookie cutter and his storylines can be complex. I glad to see him back

Thank goodness! Yes yes yes! Are they still doing it so each chapter is a different art team?

Posted by laabitres

my body is ready for this

Some plots with both DC and Marvel are a mess, but I have to say this is awesome. Finally more news on the other 52 Earths.

The Vampire Justice League caught my interest lol.

I'm still waiting for a Superman Prime One Million New 52 or some uber powerful Superman in the future.

@samuel_simmons: No, no, no, stop using the word "literally" wrongly. You have no idea how much that annoys me.

Seriously, it's like half the internet has no idea what that word means.

This is actually the first I've heard of this. Morrison doing a multi-verse story? Yeah, I'm in.

@smashbrawler Oh, well sorry it was sarcastic if that helps I know thats not how to use the word, although the dictionary is changing to make it that way unfrtunately http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/15/living/literally-definition/

August never was that far away. Rao, can’t wait!

The blurb that Morrison wrote sounds insane.

I love it. Looking forward to this.

Ah at last, it'll be good to see what Morrison's penultimate DC story will be like. His zany, high concept and utterly unique writing with metaphysical themes to boot is perfect for expanding the DC Multiverse in this way.

It sounds like it's going to be an epic story! I'm just wondering how all this will fit into a limited series only and still make sense? I guess, Morrison knows how. Lets hope all these years of waiting and more waiting will finally be worth it.

President Obama Superman is one of the best.

Edited by Jonny_Rogers

I was just thinking of Multiversity a few days ago... and almost gave up interest when I found no news. I'd read pretty much anything with Grant Morrison involved, and most of my favourite comic book stories are set in alternate universes - this looks to be the ultimate combination of both.
