'Ghostbusters 3' Movie?

Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver discuss the possibility of a third film

Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver discuss the possibility of a third film

I have always felt that when filmmakers gear up to create a sequel to any blockbuster movie, they should do their very best to bring back members of the original cast to revive their old roles, particularly when the movie is 'Ghostbusters 3.' The sequel to 'Ghostbusters' was released in 1989, and after 20 years there is talks of doing a third film. No doubt that the film would be a likely success considering the first two film's are such a major part of American pop culture. Yet, what is the likelihood that we would see the cast members return for a third film? According to an interview with the Channel 4 News in the UK, actress Sigourney Weaver thinks there is a possibility that she would be involved in a new Ghostbusters film; in fact, it seems she may be open to it. However, she does seem to give a lot away regarding what we could see in a third movie.

I don’t know if I’m going to be in it, I have had a couple of calls asking ‘would you read the script.’
I know that my little son Oscar, who was kidnapped from me… I think he has grown up to be a Ghostbuster.
I might be in it, I see nothing wrong with being in it, although I don’t think I will have a big part. I think Bill Murray has a little more to do with it… he’s a ghost.

The idea of Bill Murray's character, Dr. Peter Venkman being a ghost is pretty wild. I imagine it would have the opportunity of being very cool, or exactly the opposite...yet, doesn't everything? Murray, however, has previously gone on to say that the only way that he would be involved in a third 'Ghostbusters' film is if the script is "really, really good."

"It has to be a serious script...I'm not just going to make a third one to make another one. You know we made a second one, but it wasn't as good as the first one."

What do you think? Would you like to see a third 'Ghostbusters' movie? Do you think they could do the first two films justice? What would you like to see?

This has become this sort of fad anymore. Let’s take advantage of the now grown-up fans by reviving a dried up popular classic franchise for nostalgia purposes just to make a cheap buck. In the end, what happens? They almost always suck! At the very least it’s always this shell of what it used to be, clearly just marketing off of the popularity of the old instead of actually making a film for any actual literary purpose. They're unoriginal crap where they may as well just look at the camera and wink, basically saying "Hey, remember when this happened in the first movie? Great stuff...right?" Oh god! It's a glorified cheesy TV  reunion special. They always end up screwing something up with the original, wounding the fan base, and in the end leaving you wonder if it was even worth it. Indiana Jones 4 anyone? Star Wars Prequels? So the question is, do we need a Ghostbusters 3? Is there really more story to tell? I say don’t bother!  God forbid Hollywood make something original...

I don't see what the big deal about the second movie is. I liked it.             ....what? I'm just saying it wasn't that bad. The image of the statue of liberty walking through times square blasting Jackie Wilson will forever be in my memory. If you ask me... it was.. breathtaking. *tear*

They could have the 3rd movie take place in our time and be about the ghostbusters getting older.

I'd love to see a third Ghostbusters movie. Loads of old actors are taking back their classic roles recently, Bruce Willis in Die Hard 4.0 (sort of), Sylvester Stallone in Rambo...so why not Murray and the gang?
I hope this rumour becomes a reality.

I am sorry to say this, but to keep that true to you, DON"T watch "Lost in Translation".  I think I barely made it half way through :(  and I love Bill Murray

As for a third Ghostbusters?  I think it would be great, and doing it as a kind of "passing the torch" type thing could work well if done just right.....the old training the new :)     even if they never make a fourth

Well, I had heard that the story that was used for the Ghostbuster video game was pretty much the third Ghostbuster movie. The actors are pretty up there in age now. They can't really pull off many of the stunts that would really be needed to play the role. Computer generated is perfect for them. They can write the stories, have their images on the screen, and use their own voices. The game was so cool. Being able to wander around in the base. Only thing that could of improved it was a bit more open world feel. Maybe add some side quests.

I really could never imagine a Ghostbuster movie that didn't star the original cast. Growing up with those movies, anything else would be sacrilege to me. As a kid, I saw those movies so many times. I could literally tell the entire movie's dialog from beginning to end.

I talked to Ernie Hudson and Harold Ramis about the third GB movie before back when Year One came out and when Ernie started guest starring on Heroes. Harold was a little hesitant to talk, but I think I got some solid info on the progress of a script and the general plot of the old Ghostbusters training a crop of new ones to pass the legacy onto. I've provided links with the full interviews:

I'm not gonna lie I would love to see another Ghostbusters movie , but at the same time I'm ok if they didn't make one. I mean I had the complete outfit and proton pack and trapper when I was kid so I'm obviously a Ghostbuster fan. I think because I'm worried that they'll mess it up and that they'll make one just to make one to make money. If Bill doesn't do it and they go ahead and film it right there it should tell you it's gonna be bad. So I can understand if Bill is hesitate to do it. Only if the script is really good. It would make sense to show Oscar & maybe being a Ghostbuster. Not so sure I would want the Apatow crew in it though. Except maybe Paul Rudd . I'm also  just worried that original Ghostbusters might  just gonna look too old. I mean Harold Ramis isn't the skinny person he use to be when he was in Stripes. So I don't know. I'm excited and I'm not. I guess we'll just see.

They should make Extreme Ghostbusters :D  Or a variant of it :)

Set years after the end of the real Ghostbusters, lack of supernatural activity has put the Ghostbusters out of business. Each member has gone their separate way, except for Dr. Egon Spengler, who still lives in the firehouse to monitor the containment unit, further his studies and teach a class on the paranormal at a local university. When ghosts start to reappear, Egon is forced to recruit his lone four students as the new Ghostbusters.

i agree. i work with kids , and really, i love every last one of them, but i try to talk to them about good music and all they know is Miley Cyrus and Kanye west. I try to talk to them about good Tv/cartoons, and all they know is Avitar and I Carly.
ive spent the last few weeks getting them to love Animaniacs, Remeber the Titans, and Wollice & Gromit, and they love them all, but they complained about not watching the stupid new movies all the way up until the movie started.

The first one was made when I was born and my dad introduced me to them like right away. Hell I can even still remembering my dad picking me up from pre-school one afternoon and taking me to see Ghostbusters 2 in theater. It was the year before I started kindergarten. The funny thing is that when my dad took me to see the movie I completely freaked at the part where the baby is on the ledge and the ghost version of the art director guy is flying in with the stroller. ahhh... memories. :)

Man, this would be awesome. My brother and I watched Ghostbusters so much as kids that my mother took it from my brother (the more fanatic viewer, and, older than me, the protector of the VHS), put it in the middle of the road in front of our house, and ran it over in her car. So yeah, I'm pretty excited about the potential 3rd movie. Paul Rudd as Murray's son? Huh, huh? Or how about Seth Rogen? That might be a better, goofy fit.
