Geoff Johns Tells You What 'Trinity War' is About

DC's biggest event begins this week. Hear from the writer to get the backstory.

This week JUSTICE LEAGUE #22 is on sale. In that issue we will see the beginning of Trinity War, an event we've been waiting for since 2012's Free Comic Book Day issue.

While the seeds have slowly been planted throughout the Justice League titles, it's possible there may still be some readers that aren't quite up to date on what the story is. For those unaware of what's been happening, DC's Chief Creative Office and JUSTICE LEAGUE writer, Geoff Johns himself took the time to help you get caught up.

All of this leads to September's Villain's Month and FOREVER EVIL. It's pretty safe to say that if you're reading DC Comics, you won't want to miss this story.

Guess I have to get back into Justice League again.

All I have to say is: Sh** is about to get real

Meh. Feels unoriginal and for such a wide crossover, I really need to be inspired to punt some money at this event. I think ill sit this out

Trinity War actually seems to make a ton of sense in the context of Forever Evil. Before, I thought it was just an event for the sake of it, considering that we basically don't see any reason for these guys fighting right now.

Thanks for telling me the plot johns.no need buy it now

More hero-vs-hero?

Posted by saoakden

Looking forward to this story.

Is that Black Adam or Shazam in the corner? I wonder who does the killing more then who gets killed.

Posted by batmannflash

oh my goodness that was amazing! looks like it's going to be intense. and it's awesome how they connected it to Forever Evil. great idea! i'm totally looking forward to it

Posted by Wolverine08

I ain't into events, but I might just have to buy this.

Posted by Squalleon

@jamdamage: There is a rumor that billy dies.
And that in the corner in BA

Posted by JamDamage

why is Metamoroho attacking her own team memeber, Cyborg???

Posted by G-Man

@jamdamage: Things are getting mixed up. If you saw the preview pages when I interviewed Doug Mahnke, Ivan Reis or Mikel Janlin, you can see that it won't be straight down the middle in terms of the existing teams.

Damn it Geoff it's ConstanTYNE!

These still seem like events for the sake of having an event. If JL 22 turns out to be awesome, then I'll get it. But I otherwise have zero interest in this thing.

Also, I like how it took DC until THE DAY BEFORE the events starts to actually explain the damn thing.

THIS MAKES ME REALLY WANT TO GET IT NOW

Posted by TheManInTheShoe

@jamdamage: Someone is switching sides, maybe it's her.

Why didn't he mention all the other members of the teams, Like Firestorm, Element woman, Atom, Madame Xanadu, Black Orchid.

So all of this is just a crossover leading into another company wide crossover? Sigh WB please for the sake of everything just clean house at DC.

Edited by Gabranth

I predict the hero who will go too far will be Catwoman. She's part of the JLA now but she's featured alongside the Super-villains in Forever Evil

Took the words right out of my mouth. You know I can't help but feel like I've seen this before........ Oh wait I have!! Over at Marvel with Civil War and then Dark Reign. Yeah, I had my suspicions that DC orchestrated the New 52 in an attempt to be more like Marvel, but this cements it.

Johns has pretty much foreshadowed this entire event being nothing more then build up to Forever Evil.

Works for Marvel.

I like how he says that Green Arrow is paired up with Batman when Catwoman was actually brought in for that purpose.

If the villains win in the end then what's the point? Since they made Talia al Ghul a bad guy through and through now I can see that they could do that to Catwoman since she`s in the Forever evil pic at the end.

Then why watch the video O.o?

Posted by JamDamage

@g_man: I wonder if some team memebers are gonna swap titles when the Villains thing is over. hmmmmmmmmm.

Posted by cameron83

It says that Billy starts it....maybe when he throws the ashes of Black Adam in Khandaq or maybe he attacks Superman...or something..

So it's not really about Pandora or her box. All that mysticism for nothing. And lets face it, villains only win a battle and not a war. Saying that, I'm excited.

Posted by cameron83

Not only did that narration seem pretty cool, but Trinity War actually seems interesting. Especially since it involves the villains (being that they're orchestrating it) and that spins off into Villains month and the villains all come together. Seems really interesting. not only the parts about the villains and how it leads into them, but the synopsis of Trinity War itself...

Looks great! Can't wait for this event!

SUPERMAN IS THE ONE THAT CROSSES THE LINE!!

I'm legitimately excited about this event.

Also, anybody else pretty sure Geoff Johns created Simon Baz just to kill him here?

Eh, Trinity War is basically the prelude to the real event anyway. The three teams duke it out for no reason while the real threat builds into Forever Evil.

I know right! LMFAO. Granted, anyone paying attention to the solicits could tell something was going down with the villains.

I'll give it a chance. JL started out terribad and has slowly morphed into an average book. I've basically been hanging on so Johns can tell this story. If it sucks, I'm done with him for good.

Posted by Fantasgasmic

sounds VERY similar to Civil War.

Posted by Overlander

That is actually a really cool description. The premise is kinda fascinating.

So is Batman

Posted by badaboop

I might skip out on Trinity War and focus primarily on Forever Evil when it comes out. I say that now, though...

meh

Posted by BattheMan008

Extremely excited about this...will Forever Evil be a new ongoing or a miniseries type thing as well?

Posted by blkson

Wonder Woman is wearing pants.

Posted by Reignmaker

Information on Forever Evil is here. 7-issue mini-series.

That was great! I can't wait to see what happens!

Aaaah but the final picture with all the villains in it... Catwoman is there. Who knows, from what I remember Trevor wanted Ollie to be Batman's partner (that sounds wrong).

Posted by Hawkguy

I think the two biggest candidates for people with intent to kill are MMH and Hawkman.

Posted by MrShway88

Will this crossover be like Throne of Atlantis where each part of the story is in another series?

Posted by akbogert

@hawkguy: Aye, but the point is he's explaining what the JLA is, and that each member was brought in to counter one of the JL members, and in the book it was made clear that Catwoman was Batman's match. Side-switching is all fine and maybe Catwoman's disappearance has Green Arrow reattributed, but if you rewatch that part it sounds like he's almost struggling to remember who was paired with whom. *shrug*

Not exactly, but close.
