Last week we saw the release of the first issue of ADVENTURE TIME #1 by KaBoom!, a division of Boom Studios. Today, the children's comic publisher announced they would be taking the reigns of another popular franchise and begin to bring it to kids of all ages. KaBoom! will begin publishing Jim Davis' Garfield in an all new monthly series. The new title will be written by Mark Evanier who will be joined on the book by artist Gary Barker.
This isn't the first time that Evanier has had his hands on Garfield; in fact, the writer was responsible for bringing the laziest cat in comics to television as the writer for the animated 'Garfield and Friends' television series from September 17th, 1988 to December 10th, 1994.
Creator Jim Davis first came up with the idea for Garfield back in the 1970's, so how is it that this property has managed to be such a success after all these years? According to Evanier in a recent interview it's very easy to relate to Garfield's character.
Garfield embodies qualities that we all see in so many people around us -- and too often in ourselves. He's lazy. He overeats. He's enormously self-obsessed. Everyone either identifies with him or with all the other folks in his world who have to put up with him.
Evanier was chosen by Garfield creator Jim Davis himself. What do you think of the upcoming Garfield monthly comic book series from KaBoom! ? Are you looking forward to checking it out?
