G-Man & RedLAMP On Fantastic Four #566: Doom's Master

A discussion and review over the arrival of Dr. Doom's Master.

Do you find it odd that we're just hearing about Doom's Master now?  Do you think this will have any impact in other Marvel comics?  Will Mister Fantastic find a way to deal with him?  Do you think Doom will turn on his Master?

Hahahahaha "you got this tiny little country I've never heard of"

In my opinion Doom has no master. Eventually he's going to turn on him. Something along the lines of, "Had I wanted to rule the World I would have, but I knew eventually you'd return to check on my progress. And thats what I was counting on. I dont want the World, I want your power." Something like that.

Hmmmmmmmmm...So many Questions, I don't know it is odd hearing about Doom taking orders from someone else, but it's a good twist, now on maybe effecting other books, the only book I could think of is that Fantastic Force book, and I have no clue on wether he'll turn on his so called "Masters", but the story dose look good so I'll be around to learn more about this.

Doom does a "Say whaaaat?" towards his Master (this actually got edited out of the video).

I totally agree that the story seemed really short. The visuals were great, but I think they could have added to the watcher autopsy a bit. You know Reed had some fun with that. As much as I like Doom as a villain, I felt that there needed to be more of the actual FF in the story.

Could Doom turn into a "Hero"?

Millar and Hitch's run on Fantastic Four has been epic thus far. I have to disagree with people not reading it, though. Someone has to be reading it, if it got that spin-off mini-series, right? I do agree that it's not having enough of a impact on the rest of the Marvel Universe...the Fantastic Four were Marvel's premier team before the Avengers came along. Then again, it feels like it's Millar's choice to isolate his stories as much as needed without completely contradicting what's going on in other titles like Whedon's run on Astonishing X-Men and junk.

Uuuuuuuh...Maybe?

"Don't drink that, that's... whiskey."

That cracked me up.

I must have Gilgamesh on the brain, because I'm thinking Doom would have a similar voice. Doesn't work, though.

Edited by Decept-O

Perhaps a bit more whiskey could've aided in your voice attempts.  Maybe not.  Still, doesn't hurt to try....

Since Watchers are  supposedly "neutral" alien creatures, it only stands to reason they wouldn't have a dingus.  Dat's right..dingus.

I agree, though, I'm surprised Marvel isn't trying to milk the possible impact from this new "Master" in the rest of the M.U.  books, BUT aren't we always complaining about how annoying it is sometimes to have one storyline run through other titles?

i like red l.a.m.p.'s first doom voice better haha

With Doom's master and the Asgards are currently in Latveria, Thor comes to Latveria to get the Asgardians to move back and BOOM! Thor's comic crosses over with the current storyline with the master of Doom.

RedLAMP's kid came up on his lap.  Yes we were partaking in beverages while shooting a video and watching the kids.

Made sure I read this before the review. Just to make it clear to everyone else that was not Uatu, that was a Watcher from another dimension.

Doom = Maul
Marquis = Emperor
Apprentice = Vader

Just as I was thinking Gman, the return of Dooms master should have a  GINORMOUS impact on Dark Reign and the Marvel U. I'm more interested in who his new apprentice is and what he's capable of. I'd love to see Osborn and his Avengers try to handle the Marquis and his apprentice.

Correct and incorrect. That is Uatu, but he is an Uatu from an alternate universe.

Also, I would like to see Osborn and the Dark Avengers (and especially Dark Reign) nowhere near this story. I'm quite happy with the Fantastic Four saving the universe on their own, and that their book is remaining self-contained.

I think that maybe one of the reasons the fantastic four are kind of "off-putting" is because a good portion of heroes have to deal with being alone essentially, but they'll always have each other as corny as that sounds

I hate this masters of doom crap :|

this is why people should have read 1985 .....if you read it then you already know who his new apprentice is....and another reason to be reading this is because 1985, Old Man Logan, and Fantastic Four all share the same villain and apparently are going to tie together somehow...though I don't see how that happens since 1985 is over and Old Man Logan only has 2 more issues left...I guess we'll have to wait and see

SPOILER!

Why does Doom seem like such a bunching bag lately? It seems like since Mighty Avengers started, they have turned Doom into this thing for some new or not very well known character to smack around to make them look like a bada$$.

I haven't read this book yet but I was wondering was Loki mention or shown in it at all?

The reason I ask is when I was reading the Planet Skaar one-shot they show him/her detecting Skaar as he lands on earth and Loki seems pretty interested him, yet she would have no reaction to Dooms powerful masters seeing how they could very well interrupt any plans Loki had for Doom and Latveria.

G-Man I totally feel you on Fab 4's popularity among readers, it seems the Fantastic Four has taken a back seat lately to more interesting stories at Marvel. I love the Fantastic Four but lately I haven't found anything interesting since there run in years ago with their alternate counter parts from the Zombie universe.

You ask how come it got taken out? Because it was in the "1980" run or will be ;D it's like a retcon that really isn't a retcon!

Posted by Vlad Tepes Dracula

Alright so heres my theory:

First up, Doom doesn't bow. But seeing as how he did do so, i think that he's just kissing ass, an ass which he can't beat at this moment. Doom thinks ahead, and we all know that doom is famous for stealing powers so maybe he'll turn the tide and eventually kill off his master whom he might have feared in the back of his mind all these years and therefore never menttioned, and as to his kingdome mentioning it, they'd act, say , do anything they are ordered too.

And too the last page... we do get to see that it is doom behind the mask because you can see his flesh at the eye holes, now since it's a 1# from 4 and it's called "The Masters Of Doom" i doubt that what most people think happened at the last page did happen.

Oh and what is up with Marvel's disrespect towards the Watchers...

First, Red Hulk punches Uatu in the face and now this lol

LOL yea i got a pitcure from that happening in the past too...

so now that i posted that... who says it was the Marquis of Death who killed Uatu? Maybe doom absorbed his powers to strengthen himself in the "possible" upcomming fight with his master for HIS power!

@G-Man / Red LAMP: Watchers were born in cocoon like capsules.

Don't really like the FF

Soooo..... Is this FF series main Marvel U or what? My Doom is to arrogant to have a master.

well even so, an event like this should at least demand some recognition from the rest of the Marvel U within the issue. Take Son of Hulk Prologue, upon Skaar's arrival on Earth, Loki, Wolverine and another character take notice. A few cameos from Loki and some other Marvel mystics and deities would make sense don't you agree?

wasnt gonna say it but yea thats whati i was thinking about the whole time too xD

jesus i thought that the last watcher "Uatu" was destroyed.. he has been there forever :(

but its just another alternate one.... smells like FF alright :(
they can instantly make this massive by having thanos come back to life because he feels the master can affect his status with lady death (the master killing things left and right and whatnot...) and with his return adam warlock crosses over.

who knows? maybe with warlock present the master can search the recesses of his heart and bring back the magus....
i think ill just write a blog on how the FF can make a definite comeback...

Most intriguing FF story I've heard in a while

Posted by Press Oblivion

Doom just seems cheesy here. Millar doesn't write the character well and that whole bit about the clapping was just petty.

They're doing a good job of making me buy the comic though, cause I'll be with this story till the end to see what happens next and if the whole Marvel Universe doesn't end up in a full body cast by Doom's hand (who appears to be dead for all intents and purposes) I'll be very unhappy.
