With a title containing the word 'secret,' one would expect to discover some new startling development. It turns out that even though this story arc hasn't ended yet, quite a few revelations have been laid out for us.
For some time now, we've witnessed the Indigo Tribe and have wondered what their story was. We knew they were somehow tied to Abin Sur and their leader, Iroque aka Indigo-1, was imprisoned by Abin for some reason. Due to other recent events, Sinestro has become a Green Lantern and Hal Jordan is now tied to Sinestro since he was stripped of his own power ring. The Indigo Tribe targeted Sinestro in order to teach him compassion. What we discover in this issue will change things for the future of the title.
We will not reveal all the detail of the issue and you really owe it to yourself to pick it up to discover everything that is happening. There are big things coming in the Green Lantern universe and you won't want to miss out. There will be some spoilers for issue #9 so you have been warned.
== TEASER ==The Death of Sinestro's Wife
It's no secret that Sinestro was actually married before. It's also not a secret that she was Abin Sur's sister, Arin. The death of Arin had an effect on Sinestro. It would be easy to assume that her death is what changed Sinestro into a colder person but that's not quite the case. We discover that while they were still together, Sinestro had made the decision to impose his will on his home planet of Korugar. He felt that because they had been in a civil war for decade, his decision and will was the correct way for the planet. This didn't go well.
There was opposition to Sinestro's rule. In an attack against him, the destruction is what caused the death of Arin. Because Sinestro did not think of the consequences of his actions, it resulted in the death of the only person he cared about.
The Guardians are Willing to Kill
For months now we've been seeing the Guardians acting a little odd. They're clearly changing their ways and have started doing some questionable things. They've talked about replacing the Green Lantern Corps and are now actively seeking out Sinestro and the Book of the Black.
When questioning one individual on the whereabouts of Sinestro, they were unsatisfied with the response. This poor fellow won't have to worry about not being able to answer questions anymore.
The Location of the Indigo Power Battery
The point of this arc is to find out what the Indigo Tribe is all about. After Sinestro has been converted to the Indigo Tribe, Hal figures the only way to break their hold is to shut off the Indigo Power Battery. His ring is able to inform him of the location and that takes Hal to the Forbidden Jungles on the planet. The battery happens to be inside a giant cavern guarded by an individual named Natromo.
It was Natromo and Abin that discovered the power of the Indigo Light. In other words, they are responsible for the creation of the Indigo Tribe.
What is Abin's Connection to Iroque?
Back in GREEN LANTERN, volume 4 #66, we saw a flashback from the Book of the Black where Iroque was imprisoned by Abin Sur for some reason. Now we know why.
It turns out Iroque was Abin's longtime enemy and actually killed his daughter. Wearing the ring taught her compassion and she regretted her actions. Since then, she has worn an Indigo Tribe power ring.
Who was Abin Preparing to Fight?
Abin Sur had seen the future. He was aware of the Blackest Night. He also knew that after those events, the End of the Corps would come. The Corps would be "destroyed by an evil hidden from sight, an evil from within!"
When Hal asked who this evil was, Natromo answered, "The Guardians of the Universe." We already know that they have been planning to replace the Corps but it turned out that Abin knew as well. And now Hal knows. Hopefully Hal will be able to do something about it before the entire Corps is destroyed!
This isn't all that happened. When Hal told Natromo that Abin was dead and wouldn't be coming back to to lead the attack against the Guardians, he decided to do something a bit drastic. We also discover what "Nok" means. For these answers and others, you'll have to buy GREEN LANTERN #9 to find out. Hal is getting in over his head. The end of everything as they know it is on its way. If you haven't been reading, now is the time to catch up before it all hits the fan.
