At the height of the Cold War, S.H.I.E.L.D. sends their top operative, agent Ran Shen, deep into enemy territory to retrieve two Nazi scientists that could be the key to winning the war. But they aren’t the only ones who want these high value scientists. The Soviet Union have unleashed their most ruthless agent – THE WINTER SOLDIER! His mission: acquire the scientists by any means necessary – or kill them before they fall into enemy hands!

“In the late 1960s, a S.H.I.E.L.D. mission gone wrong begat the creation of the Iron Nail, the foe whose schemes and strategies are bedeviling Captain America in the present in his own series,” says Marvel Executive Editor Tom Brevoort. “WINTER SOLDIER: THE BITTER MARCH tells the story of that fateful mission, and the events that set S.H.I.E.L.D. operative Ran Shen onto the path that would result in him becoming the dreaded Iron Nail.”

I love Remender and Winter Soldier but I'm going to sit this out. The price, the art...just can't swing it.

I love that bear variant. I'm thinking about picking this up just for that.

Even though I've never read anything else with Winter Soldier.

I highly recommend reading series related to Bucky. Captain America: The Winter Soldier volumes 1 and 2 along with when he was Cap for a few years. Then he had a short ongoing that was great too. Check them out if you can, you won't regret it!

@arturocalakayvee: Is that the Brubaker run? I've been wanting to read that since the movie was announced.

Feels very Metal Gearish (which is a good thing). I shall be getting this, if only because of how different it is to the rest of the Marvel Universe.

Is that Jimmy Woo?

Please be Jimmy Woo. We need more Jimmy Woo in our lives.

Can't go wrong with Bucky and Fury together. That looks like a scene from the Pierce brosnan 007 movies.

Why do I get the feeling that this mini-series won't actually focus on Winter Soldier all that much?

I'm hoping on my wrong, but I'm afraid Remender may focus more on HIS character, this Ran Shen guy, using Winter Soldier simply as a pull to get fans to read this. I know Remender has been building this Shen character up to be a major villain his Captain America title as the Iron Nail, so I'm fearful that this may focus little on Bucky all in favor of Ran Shen instead.

@fodigg: I believe that's Ran Shen, a new character Remender created. He was a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent during the 60s and is a villain in the current Captain America series, the Iron Nail.

Hmm. Well, that would be an interesting reversal but without interacting with Bucky in the modern series, where's the payoff? Not that there would be any payoff from Jimmy Woo other than, you know, Jimmy Woo is awesome.
