First Look: THE PUNISHER #1 - The Return of Frank Castle

Frank's war on crime continues.

This February, Frank Castle’s one-man-war on crime continues in an all-new THE PUNISHER #1 – from the explosive creative team of Nathan Edmondson and Mitch Gerads! For years, the Punisher has called New York City his home – keeping a watchful eye on the city through the sight of a gun. But when a lead on a major source of drugs, weapons, and more leads Frank out west – he sets his sights on Los Angeles. And the City of Angels isn’t ready for a devil like the Punisher! But not everything is as it appears, and Frank will soon find himself toe-to-toe with a highly trained military strike force known only as the 131! Who are the mysterious 131? And why are they out for the Punisher’s head? Find out when the high-octane new series kicks off this February in THE PUNISHER #1!

Every time a new writer takes on the Punisher I wonder which Punisher it will be. Will it be 80's movie over the top action hero Punisher or the master of guerrilla warfare Punisher? Based on the amount of explosions in this preview, I think its the first.

No, Trial of The Punisher starts with him surrender himself to the cops. Really good mini series, recommend it.

Looking forward to read this!

No, he was free at the beginning of that

Edited by lmothander

@jonny_anonymous: Nope, In Thunderbolts, Ross rescued him from a facility that wasn't the Avengers holding facility they put him in. There has been NO explanation as to how he escaped/ was released.

YES! So excited for this. New York has sort of become it's own character in Punisher books but it'll be nice to see him somewhere else. Hope the LAPD have a decent budget...

Posted by longbowhunter

That Skottie Young cover takes the cake.

I'm a longtime Punisher fan so of course I'm checking this out. Glad Marvel is properly utilizing Edmonson. Sorry DC, looks like you dropped the ball...again.

Yes!! Can't wait fo this.

I like the art alot. Glad the Punisher is coming back. Kinda wish Marvel would bring back Garth Ennis with him. This looks promising though.

@allstarsuperman: @enigmalantern: sorry, but is not of my taste. Marco Chechetto's art is the best suited for a Punisher series in my opinion. I know now the location is los Angeles, but for me, it has to be gritty and dark... Trial of the Punisher for example. It's not Chechetto's but it was a delight either way. At least for me.

Was that good? And wasnt it Leinil Francis Yu who drew those?

@allstarsuperman: can't find the issues in my stash (it has grown incredibly fast @.@) but I think in the art duties was Suayan...

Google corrected me, indeed the first issue was by Francis Yu and the second by Mico Suayan... WOW! Two artists and I didn't noticed it.

Anyway those arts were stunning!

@al_capown: Because clearly that matters.

Can't wait for this

@allstarsuperman: The story was awesome too. Sadly it was just two issues, but the writer did a great job using just two issues to tell a really gratificant Punisher story

I love how Marvel just completely ignored that Rucka's Punisher Warzone ever happened, and we all just gave Marvel the benefit of the doubt that they must have addressed it somewhere at some point. There are those of us who assumed it happened in Thunderbolts after we dropped the book, there are those of us who thought it happened in Thunderbolts before we started reading the book, and there are those of us who assumed it happened in Trial of The Punisher. Any reasonable person would think given all the issues that entails that it would have been addressed somewhere, hell, maybe even in Space Punisher, but apparently not.

Unless it was covered in the annual, I don't think they ever explained how Deadpool returned to his status quo at the beginning of Marvel Now either.

I'm surprised that I'm actually excited to check out a Punisher book. Edmondson regularly kills it and Gerads' art looks great.
