First Look: SPIDER-MAN 2099 #1

It's time to change the future!

This July, Miguel O’Hara returns – because YOU demanded it! Today, Marvel is proud to present your first look at SPIDER-MAN 2099 #1, the all-new ongoing series from legendary writer & Spider-Man 2099 co-creator Peter David (All-New X-Factor, The Incredible Hulk) and breakout artist Will Sliney (Fearless Defenders, Superior Spider-Man Team-Up)!

Spinning directly out of the pages of Amazing Spider-Man, Miguel O’Hara swings again as Spider-Man 2099 – only he’s trapped in the year 2014! Stranded there by his father, the evil head of super corporation Alchemax – Miguel must come to terms with being stuck in an unfamiliar and unforgiving era.

But in the year 2014, Alchemax has just formed, and Miguel has a plan. Undercover in their employ, Miguel has a chance to stop the corrupt organization before it can even get started. And perhaps even alter his own future to prevent the rise of one of his greatest villains!

“Miguel becomes determined to try and transform his grandfather, Tiberius Stone into a decent guy in the hopes that it will wind up informing the raising of Tyler Stone, and perhaps make him a better person,” says writer Peter David in an interview with Marvel.com. “In short, he’s hoping that he can influence the development of both the present and future of Alchemax.”

“He’s going to find that’s not as easy as he’d hoped,” David continued.

You’d think that being a man out of time would make you a man without enemies, but Spider-Man 2099 is about to discover that he’s not the only one fighting for a better tomorrow. The Adjustor, a supremely powerful being has appeared in the year 2014 with only one mission – eliminate Miguel from the timestream! Not to mention the epic Spider-Verse event looming on the horizon!

Ask yourself, can one man change the future? Find out as the battle for tomorrow begins this July in SPIDER-MAN 2099 #1!

I know nothing of this character. But knowing that Peter David is writing it will be enough to make me try it. That art certainly doesn't hurt either :)

you should try to get your hands on the original series....it's also written by Peter David and it's fantastic!

@danhimself: I have quite the backlog of things I should "try to get my hands on," haha. Not least of which being X-Factor, which I've not read but have quickly regretted not reading thanks to how much I'm enjoying ANXF.

sweet. Looks good.!

Shocking awesome.

So many Spider stuff going on so little money, but I will enjoy spending a few extra dollars on this series. Spider Man 2099 #1 was one of the my first comic issues I ever got, so I would want to follow this.

If it weren't for the stupid lingo, I would want this.

you should shorten your list to

1. Peter David

see it seems much more manageable now doesn't it?

Edited by Perethorn

I want this, NOW!

I'm passing on this, it just won't fit in my comics budget, but I'm happy for the fans that have been waiting for him to return in his own series again.

Interesting concept. Art looks great. I'm in.

Finally, I can put a comic with the words "Spider-Man" in the title back on my pull list.

I know nothing of this character...is this like an alternate reality spidey? Does he have a story arc I should read?

he's the Spider-man of the year 2099....the first Spider-man 2099 volume (also written by Peter David) may not be essential reading for this book but it's a really great book that I highly recommend checking out....essential stuff this stuff

Wow, look at that art, Sliney has talent.

The art looks great. I love the character, and I'm glad Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time have brought the character back into the spotlight enough for him to show up in Superior and then Amazing and get his own series.

How many spidermen does it take to save the marvel universe!? Now he's the man out of time? Captain America + Spiderman = Spiderman 2099.

It's time to change the past!

@cc1738: the lingo/future slang is fantastic..., what the shock are you thinking?

Posted by sparty-dbq

@dotwilson: I can't wait for him to face off against Shocker and say "Dude, watch your language, there's kids around."

Marvel,

I always wanted to read the original series but for some reason Marvel have only released 2 volumes which end on #14 (of the 46-issue series).

Posted by VanderSEXXX

I'm in. And I'm digging the art as well.

Skottie Young cover is amazing.

Posted by BuNKiTZ

Oh my God. That Skottie Young variant!

Hard to believe it took this long for there to be a Spider-man 2099 vol 2. I read every issue of the original series and it's great that Peter David is writing the new one. I'm very hype for this.

Posted by dimitridkatsis

Good art but I thought they had flying trucks and cars in 2099.

Things that would get me to buy this series:

Peter David - CHECK

Good Art - CHECK

A Spider-Man character - CHECK

Spider-Man 2099 - CHECK

Yep, there is no shocking chance that I'm not getting this shocking book.

O'Hara is currently trapped in current 616-earth thanks to Superior Spider-man.

My favorite Spiderman, some awesome art and the possibility of a Miguel and Peter crossover?!? Very excited indeed

I really enjoyed Miguel (Spidery 2099) from the recent run of Superior Spiderman. I am definitely going to buy #1 and see how it plays out.
