First Look: ORIGINAL SIN #1

Who shot The Watcher?

This May, the secrets come out. Today, Marvel is proud to present a fuller look at beautifully rendered interior pages from ORIGINAL SIN #1 – the 8-part blockbuster event from New York Times Bestselling writer Jason Aaron and critically acclaimed artist Mike Deodato!

On the moon, the dead body of Uatu, The Watcher is discovered. His home destroyed. Looted of its valuable alien technology. His death sends shockwaves through the superhero community. The Watcher has borne witness to every event, every skeleton and every secret history of the Marvel Universe. Secrets that are now in the possession of the killer!

The manhunt is on as the Avengers, the X-Men, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four and everyone in between desperately search for the Watcher’s killer – but with the killer in possession of all the skeletons in their closets, are they ready for their sins to be revealed?

As they unearth the motive behind The Watcher’s murder, they’ll uncover a shocking truth that will shake the Marvel Universe to its core. What did The Watcher see that made him a target? And it’s only a matter of time before more bodies start popping up!

“This is a murder mystery on a Marvel Universe scale, so the suspects and motivations span all of space and time, and even the nature of existence itself!” says Executive Editor Tom Brevoort. “And in fact, there are two possibilities: first, that the Watcher was killed because of some grudge or slight, or to gain possession of his secrets. Or, more menacingly, the Watcher was killed in order to prevent him from seeing what comes next—to prevent him from interceding as he has so many times before! Neither is a particularly comforting thought to the heroes of the Marvel Universe! Nor is the notion that the being who could murder a nigh-omnipotent, eternal figure such as the Watcher must rank among the most dangerous and powerful individuals in existence!”

You thought you knew the whole story? You we’re wrong! The next stage of the Marvel Universe begins in May’s blockbuster ORIGINAL SIN #1!

Everybody has one. This is Marvel’s ORIGINAL SIN!

Wow Doc Strange is a bad man.

Damn EPIC PUNISHER ART!!!

Posted by Cap10nate

Looks good. Love any time Nick Sr gets some spotlight. He has always been one of my favorite characters.

I am looking forward to this event, looks really interesting.

Keep getting more and more interested with every article.

Posted by Teerack

I always love when the Punisher gets mixed up with the avengers and other super stuff that he typically wouldn't care about.

Did Strange just incinerate that dude?

Posted by Farkam

I hope this is good.

I have a feeling this will be his last adventure, I mean who has more deep dark secrets than Nick Fury? I can see him be alienated by the rest and the sacrifice himself for redemption.

Dr. Strange and Punisher working together? Awesome.

As for this art.....I need this book now.

Wow Doc Strange is a bad man.

Haha yeah I wish we saw exactly what dialogue was being shared before he decided to end that man.

Punisher looks wicked as well, very nice art on him.

Aside from those positives, I'm evented-out and for some reason this concept really isn't hooking me.

@jonny_anonymous: I've actually been thinking that as well. Marvel needs a way to get the old man out of the picture for Jr to grow and a big event is needed to send him off right.

Cool

Looks great I'm really interested in this. I hope something good spawns out of this though, can't remember the last "event" where something good came from it.

Forget who shot the Watcher. Who makes the Watcher's boots? I don't think even the Big & Tall store carries that size.

Haha, I love the Deadpool picture.

Very yes on that Mike Deodato art.

Edited by micah

Art looks good, but not sure about it yet. On some panels and close ups it kinda looks like animated CGI to me, if anyone understands what I'm saying LOL

Thanks for preview of 10 covers

MIKE. DEODATO.

DAMN. Why yo art gotta be so badazz?

Posted by medulaoblaganda

So will it be peter in this event? looks like spOcks outfit on the cover..

Posted by Denn979

@fil123 it should be peter because he'll be back in april. plus thats not the recent superior costume

It was Batman.

Oh crap. I was totally going to skip this event... and then Punisher. Count me in.

It's Harvey Dent

Edited by Skyhawk1

Thanos did it.

I love Deodato's work, but that blood spatter on page two looks terrible. It just looks so...flat. Like it was just kinda slapped on there as an afterthought. Anyway, I'm super excited for this event and this preview only managed to stoke those flames. It's funny how it's normally "The Watcher's here, so you know it's big", but it kinda feels more like "Nick Fury Sr's here, so you know it's big". I bet he'll be the next "Watcher" of sorts when the series ends.

Love that this event looks very original (no pun intended at all).

Loving the cast so far. I wonder who Emma will team-up with. Can't wait the trade of this to drop!

I'm surprised they went with Scott over Hank, but I'll roll with it. I'd have liked to see Emma and Hank arguing over her attempted murder of Juston's Sentinel, but I'm sure Scott and Emma will be entertaining. Have Scott Lang and Emma had any interactions in the past?

Posted by EvanTheMexiJew

What if Deadpool is the killer? Like on that variant? That'd be nuts.

Looks amazin

Posted by marvel_dc_heroes_villains

@micah: Yeah, it looks a lot like a cel-shaded video game. Glad someone else is seeing it.

Posted by marvel_dc_heroes_villains

Also, I will most likely bankrupt myself buying every issue and tie-in of Original Sin. As disappointing as it may turn out to be, I haven't been this intrigued by a story arc in a long time.

Edited by micah

@marvel_dc_heroes_villains: I really don't like that. It may just be a problem during close-ups but still why didn't they just keep the art from Infinity? To me that's some of the best art I've ever seen

@jonny_anonymous:

If they kill Nick Fury Sr i think this might be the first major character death to actualy stay dead in comics. With how popular black Nick Fury is in the MCU i think 616 will just have Nick Fury Jr be the only Nick Fury in the universe.

Posted by budonkadonk

Excited to see Nick Fury proper in this...

I'm just irked with how Nick Fury Jr. and Cheese went from strapping, late-20s Army Rangers to grizzled mid-40s character with the flip of a switch. Especially with the inifinity serum in Junior, you'd think he wouldn't mystically age 20 years all of a sudden.

Looks like another event that's gonna costs hundreds to keep up with. Looks interesting, through.

One of us is the killer!

Eh, the dead pool cover did make me laugh though.

That and the fact that they keep trying to make Fury Jr seem important by shoving him into everything when he lacks the experience necessary to interact with those he does the way he does and the fact that he's completely ignorant of pretty much everythinng. Cheap introduction aside, had they actually developed him instead of just using him to make Nick Fury match his movie counterpart with no proper storytelling, I'd find him tolerable.

Ugh, more Deodato.
