First Look: NOVA #10 Celebrates 100th Issue Anniversary

Get ready to to celebrate and welcome the new creative team.

Sam Alexander is only reaching the tenth issue in his series but Marvel is ready to celebrate the 100th Issue Anniversary of the Human Rocket with that same issue. In this supersized issue, Zeb Wells and Carlo Barberi continue the deep space adventures but that's not all. The issue also features the debut of new regular NOVA writer Gerry Duggan in a story drawn by Paco Medina.

Since acquiring the Nova Force it’s been a bumpy ride for fifteen year-old Sam Alexander! Fighting alongside Rocket Raccoon & Gamora, a not-so-nice encounter with the Superior Spider-Man – not to mention a run in with Thanos and his Black Order! But that’s all about to change! Big changes are coming for Nova, and it starts here! (Oh, and did we mention a guest appearance by the new New Warriors setting up their All-New Marvel Now! series in February?)

“It took us a few decades to get to #100 and Zeb’s wrap up along with Gerry’s explosive debut story is a perfect way to celebrate this well-earned anniversary,” says Senior Editor Stephen Wacker. “With the Nova Corps showing up in next summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Marvel’s coolest new hero is going to have a huge spotlight and this is the place where Nova blasts off big time!”

Don’t miss the start of a bombastic new beginning for Marvel’s sentinel of the stars when Nova #10rockets into print and digital this November!

I wonder if there will be any mention of Rich or are they still peddling the line they don't want to diminish his sacrifice to stop Thanos during Thanos Imperative?

Edited by AllStarSuperman

the guy who writes deadpool? that's awesome. I read 1-5, but I definetly should read more.

100th issue? No. You celebrate a true 100th issue when the ongoing has RAN for 100 issues, not weak ass restarts.

I'm guessing In no way, is the guy who was the protagonist for the previous 90 issues going to get any sort recognition or celebration for this "milestone", not even a variant cover or a backup story. Seeing Sam Alexander, standing on top of Richard Rider's helmet really Grinds my Gears and 10 is about 90 short. Stop trying to make it sound like it's all the same character, by riding on the coat-tails of the real Nova, calling this the 100th issue is a slap in the face to Rider fans.

Bring back Richard Rider.

It's a shame really, when I started to get interested in Rich he got replaced by Sam so any pointers for what to pick up would be good thank you.

@trevel8182: Perfectly said!

Never picking this up, hope it crashes and burns. When great titles like Scarlet Spider are cancelled and abominations like this manage to ride on a great character's legacy while simultaneously dismantling it, it's enough to really get under my skin.

I would buy this but I can't get over the $3.99 price tag. I read a few issues when it started out but the quality that is produced does not justify the cost. There's no way this should cost more than Daredevil and Hawkeye. Those are two books that are way better in regards to quality and more bang for your buck at $2.99 per issue. Let's bring the price down and have a Nova fire sale promotion on comixology and then I'll pick it back up. They could bring back Richard Rider too.

@trevel8182:

because Rider wasn't the only Nova....others have been one many in fact.....it like saying only hal Jordan can be green lantern.....when you can accept a character that has traditionally been in the care of other people you just become a rigid fan an nobody can please you as a creator and that is slap in face of all hard work the writers, artists and colorists have done over the years....I get it when people talk about spider-man....but NOVA?......for now Rider is dead....give Alexander a chance

Posted by Trevel8182

@barkley: All the other Nova's besides Rider are sacrificial lambs I don't think you can name one who didn't die or lose there powers after there second of third appearance.

That will be a long wait, friend, because I don't have tantrums over comic characters. Have a good day, hope you get better soon!

Would have thought Marvel would have taken the coincidence that issue 10 is 100 and just started numbering at 100 as they have done so many times in the past. Either way been loving the Nova series and the art, can't wait for this.

@trevel8182: Well its probably different this time. Give it a chance. I understand where you're coming from but this could be like kyle and hal

Literally no mention of Rich is annoying but the amount of butthurt I'm seeing here is hilarious.

Edited by nappystr8

I would never have guessed that there had been 100 Nova issues.

I love that art, it's nice and vibrant.

Agreed, although Sam is cool, I wanna see RR come back now!

I agree. I like and prefer Richard Rider, but the serious stupidity in this thread annoys me.

It's why I don't give a f*ck what comic fans complain about nowadays, listening to complaints aren't even worth it.

While I prefer Richard Rider,I read this series from Issue 1 and it has been a great and fun series. Some people here are just screaming "THIS SUCKS,BRING BACK RICHARD". Many people here don't even give this series or the character a chance (or even a fair one. Reading 1 issue isn't giving it a chance when you read it with bias in mind) because they prefer Richard Rider.

These are one of the stupid reasons that (in my opinion, good) books get cancelled. There is nothing saying you can't prefer one character over the other, but to have some sort of enmity towards a quality character and series because of that bias is sickening.

And some people are complaining about numbers of the issue........

God I f*cking hate comic fans......

Nice artworks.

This is a shame that Rich isnt the one to celebrate this. He went through so much to earn the title of Nova Prime and they give this honor to a teen who hasn't done anything. We still haven't forgotten about you Rich come back to us soon.

I miss Rich Rider so much.

The man had an epic death. Id say he has earned his rest. don't you?

Posted by Dark_Guyver

I don't get it. How did Star Lord and Thanos escape the Cancerverse, but Rich didn't. Was this ever explained?

I agree whole-heartedly.

I've given Sam a shot too. I've read everything he's been in up to this point, but he just is not doing it for me. Rider has such an awesome history in cosmic Marvel. I don't get why he is a sacrifice, but Drax, Starlord, and Thanos are all alive and kicking.

Part of me is so excited that the title NOVA is getting a 100th issue finally over multiple volumes. but i'm also a little saddened that its not the character Richard Rider that i grew up reading as nova. I have nothing against Sam, i think he's a fine character but man do i miss Rich

Yeah

So, are 100 issue celebrations common, when spread across more than one series? I don't think I've seen such a thing before.
