I hate these First Looks cuz it leaves me with more questions than answers. When the Phoenix appears it looks like it's appearing over K'un-Lun. The redheaded girl seems to be doing martian arts and the fire is taking the form of the dragon. Is the Chi of Shou-Lao connected to the Phoenix? Is this a combination of Danny Rand's and Hope's histories?

@Dedpool: @dewboy01: Well at least it looks like the cover isn't a complete mislead. I mean a guy becoming an immortal weapon for a capitol city of heaven by killing an immortal dragon and plunging your fist into it's molten heart.....that could totally be connected to the Phoenix Force. Hopefully this will explain a few things that have been up with Iron Fist lately, ever since he tried to get Agamotto his eye back.

I'm getting the vibe that Iron Fist ends up teaching Hope how to control some part of the Phoenix Force. It would explain why Iron Fist seems to be protecting her on one of the covers. Marvel might be connecting chi to the phoenix like Prince IMC speculated. Pretty cool if true.

If the Phoenix is connected to Iron Fist it makes me want a combination X-Men/Avengers team even more.

Well that explains the whole connection Marvel is doing between Chi and the Phoenix Force. I'm intrigued. I might actually pick this issue up.

@WildStyle: In Chinese mythology/ symbolism, the dargon represented the Emperor while the phoenix would represent the Empress.

Perhaps there's some cosmic love story? Maybe if the dragon is meant to be the source of Iron Fist's Chi powers, then he's meant to be some sort of guardian the fledgling phoenix force? Perhaps there's some mega-level rivalry between the two?

If it is some sort of cosmic dragon/phoenix tie-together then it would make it a lot more interesting than it was before. Given that the X Teams have only just got used to the split to have them taking on the Avengers seemed too soon. I've still got reservations that this might be a typical Marvel high concept (quick, let's think of an idea...quick let's think of another before we've even thought the first one through...) but I'm sucker for a dragon/phoenix story so I might get pulled in.

Well okay, this is actually makes the whole AVX thing 2% less stupid to me. Unless Marvel does something typically moronic and ruins Iron Fist (one of my favorites) for me.

I think we'll find out that the Chi of Iron Fist is a companion enrgy to the Phoenix Force. Like Shou Lao and the Phoenix are both celestial beings.

Because it's a total twisting of his origins just to make it more "relevant" it's like saying that this character cant stand with his own unique origin so we have to stick a bunch of other concepts from a different title franchise that has nothing to do with him to make it better.

i think all this thing are related to the "life force" the one ironfist use and the one scarlet witch and dr doom use to alter reality, the poenix is supposed to be that force so when they talk about the life force they're talking about the phoenix

I saw this post on blog about Hope and Jean. Which someone began to think of how Iron Fist and Hope could be connected. I posted this on another thread once, and I think it's an interesting idea to say the least.

Back in 1975, Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #19, written by Chris Claremont, introduced us to the Firebird which represented the soul and potential goodness for the Earth!
Before the Great Cataclysm just after the N’Garai were banished from ruling the Earth, a woman known as Jade was physically and sexually assaulted by a band of men and left for dead in the woods. When she recovered she was so mentally anguished that she prayed for death and in response, she was exposed to a blinding light which set her afire, and transformed her into the Firebird, the mystical embodiment of all that is good, kind, decent and noble in humanity.
In this way Jade represented all that is best, and served as humanity’s soul, and thus lifted humanity out of the charnal pit the N’Garai had dug for it, allowing it to rise above its damned infancy.
Millennia later, the demon sorcerer, Dhasha Khan, sought to power of the Firebird directing a group of people to assault its human manifestation, Jade, in Feng-Tu, the realm of the dead for the people of K’un L’un.
This assault was prevented by Iron Fist, who it was suggested was Firebird’s protector.
With this in mind, it’s interesting that the upcoming Avengers Vs X-Men is suggesting that Iron Fist is the protector of the Firebird.
Given Bendis and crew are fans of Marvel’s 70s period, I wonder if the plot is a thruline from this story…
So perhaps Hope Summers isn’t Jean Grey, but Jade reincarnated from Feng-Tu.
And K’un L’un’s Book of the Dead reveals that the duty of each Iron Fist down the ages has been to protect each incarnation of her!

No matter how hard they try, Marvel just can't seem to get Iron Fist (or Moon Knight) to break-through to mainstream success. This seems like yet another attempt by Marvel to get Iron Fist over.

Hmmm, interesting, my question before I say more is (not expert on Iron Fist) the firebird the phoenix force or small piece of it, or not related to it at all really and maybe some other being of unknown parts?

Read this on yahoo answers. question was asking why it appears dragons and phoenix ar always fighting.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

They are not in conflict, but rather shown in "harmony", the dragon and phoenix is a symbol of harmony in Japanese and Chinese culture. In China, Fenghuang is a mythical bird superficially similar to the phoenix. It is the second most-respected legendary creature (second to the dragon), mostly used to represent the empress. The phoenix is the leader of birds. In Japan, the phoenix is called hō-ō "Immortal Bird".

Dragons are commonly symbols of good luck or health in China and Japan. Asian dragons are considered as mythical rulers of weather, specifically rain and water, and are usually depicted as the guardians of pearls, most used to represent the emperor.

In ancient China, they can often be found in the decorations for weddings or royalty, along with dragons. This is because the Chinese considered the dragon and phoenix symbolic of blissful relations between husband and wife, another common yin and yang metaphor. Each mythical creature unites their own qualities and creates a balance and harmony.

Mixed with Conrad's too. (which isn't really that much of a difference if you compare the two, but still. complete eye-candy.)
