First Look: Morrison's WONDER WOMAN: EARTH ONE and MULTIVERSITY

Get a peek at some images of Wonder Woman in Grant Morrison's upcoming Wonder Woman OGN.

We've seen SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE and BATMAN: EARTH ONE, and now we get our very first peek at WONDER WOMAN: EARTH ONE by Grant Morrison.

There has been plenty of talk about this particular project over the last few years or so and now we have our first real glimpse at artist Yanick Paquette's work on WONDER WOMAN: EARTH ONE. Like the SUPERMAN and BATMAN original graphic novels that were previously released, this Wonder Woman story will take place outside of continuity and will consist of approximately 120 pages. While we don't know much about the upcoming project, we do know that it will focus on both Diana and her mother, Queen Hippolyta. The image depicts Queen Hippolyta killing Hercules in a two page spread, and like the previous OGN's, this one will also be an origin story of sorts.

The second image that was released on Zap2It earlier today is artist Cameron Stewart's work on MULTIVERSITY which is a series also being written by Grant Morrison that will consist of nine issues and will have Morrison exploring DC's multiple universes. We previously mentioned some news regarding Morrison's MULTIVERSITY project back in October when DC unveiled some pages for the series by artist Frank Quitely. Now we got a glimpse of some penciled pages by Cameron Stewart who will also be joining Morrison on the project. MULTIVERSITY is scheduled to be released sometime later this year. The image above is a page taken from the issue titled 'Thunderworld' that will center around Captain Marvel's character. This particular issue, according to Morrison, will be all-ages friendly.

What do you think of Morrison's two upcoming projects? Are you looking forward to his MULTIVERSITY series? What do you want to see in his Wonder Woman OGN?

So looking foward to Multiversity, probably the last time we'll ever see the real Captain Marvel, Question and Ted Kord from a DC published book.

I really enjoyed Johns' Batman Earth One. However, Stracynski's Superman: Earth One was sorely lacking

"Multiversity" is a nine-issue series -- book-ended by two more issues -- exploring the DC Multiverse, each issue telling a story about a different character from a different Earth. The art below is by Cameron Stewart from the issue titled "Thunderworld," which is obviously the newest incarnation of DC's Earth Fawcett, the Earth based on Captain Marvel and his family. Morrison told Zap2It that this issue is all-ages friendly. Morrison previously discussed "Multiversity" and revealed art from artist Frank Quitely's Earth Charleton issue during last year's MorrisonCon.

9 issues means 9 Earths. If there is a Fawcett Earth and a Charlton Earth, the what other Earths have been chosen? And which characters will be at the center of each story?

  • Fawcett (Billy Batson)
  • Charlton (Ted Kord?)
  • Quality (Plastic Man)
  • Wildstorm (Lord Majestros?)
  • Milestone (Virgil Hawkins?)
  • All American (Alan Scott?)
  • National (Uncle Sam?)
  • Hannah Barbera (Apache Chief?)
  • Vertigo (John Constantine?)
  • IPC/Feeltway (???)
  • Prize (Adam Mann?)
  • Centaur (John Aman?)

I don't know what other companies DC has acquired over the years, but this should be interesting.

Uncle Sam was a Quality Comics character. All-American and National were two separate sister companies that merged into National Allied Publications way back in the Golden Age. NAP later changed its name to Detective Comics Inc. after one of its first books. This was later shortened to DC Comics. Both National and All-American owned various heroes featured in the original Golden Age Justice Society of America.

New 52 has maybe an infinite number of universes and multiversity seems to be visiting just a handful of them.

IT's been more than a year since the New 52 started and I STILL think that Hercules should have been Diana's dad. It would have made a ton of sense when you think about it. It would have clicked into place better than Zeus being the dad.

Oh well, I'll use it for my fan fic. X^D

Hmm I'm not so sure. Granted there was a time it could happen but if Wonder Woman would have a father, I'd rather it be the king of the gods. Then again I'm partial to demigods so maybe that's why I liked it. Wonder Woman 3 remains one of my favourite. issues of Wonder Woman and the New 52. I liked the explanation for it

I've been on edge of Multiversity for the last five years when it was first talked of by Morrison so obviously I'm excited, but the real glee is coming forth for Wonder Woman: Earth One. I cannot tell you enough how excited I am that he's going to be taking this on. Can't wait!

Super excited for this :) I hadn't read any of the Earth 1 stuff until today, but I love Wonder Woman, and I knew I would get this, so I figured I might as well read the other books, so I picked up volume 1 of Superman today. I'm about halfway through and I think it is absolutely fantastic! As an added bonus, one of my favorite writers is taking on one of my favorite characters, and I know Grant Morrison is going to do her justice :D makes me wish he could write her in the regular DCU, but her current series is A+ in my book, so no complaints here

It would also have made Diana around 3000 years old.

@outside_85:

Yeah so? In the original 40's W.W. and the George Perez remake in the 80's, did they say what year she was born in? She's an immortal Amazon! The Lynda Carter show had her go from the 40's to the 70's between seasons with no problem. I get the feeling that on Themyscira, time hardly registers.

Hopefully this one is good. Morrison Knows what makes these characters great in the first place, but also introduce a lot of new elements to make it feel fresh and interesting, unlike Superman: Earth One and Batman: Earth One which just changed the characters just for the hell of it

@miss_garrick: I am not saying it is a visual problem (which it isnt), but it becomes harder and harder to explain why Diana chose the modern age to leave the island and not at any other point. Flashpoint and the New 52 incarnation is so young it's easier to accept she would leave just to get away, if she's thousands of years old she will be of the same mindset as all the other Amazons. Granted you could say she was dispatched instead.

But you are correct that they didn't bother with tagging her age or date of birth in the past, but I have the idea that most people believe she is about as old as she's appeared and not something like 200 or more.

As for time, I think you are correct in the sense that the Amazons simply stop caring. Like they are far older than Ra's Al Ghul, and he cant even remember how old he is. Same with Vandal Savage that we only know was a caveman, but nothing exact.

I can't wait for Grant Morrison's Wonder Woman: Earth One!

I haven't read any of the Earth One books but I'm really interested in seeing Morrison's interpretation of the Amazon.

I also wonder if it will be similar to the Pre-52 Wonder Woman (which I will welcome w/ open arms).

I can't wait!!
