First Look: IRON MAN #1 - Marvel NOW!

It's been a while since I've picked up anything Marvel, but this may be my first in a while. I love Iron Man, and Extremis was an awesome storyline anyways. If that's still in this troublesome mix along with a potentially more troubled Tony [from looking at this new suit], I'm in.

Darker equals better. I'd like to see will Tony's personality be darker.

With Iron Man 3 on the horizon, Land is going to have a ton of stuff to trace.

everything accepted and good - except the dark color! That dark red.. almost like black in color.. No just no!!!

The black looks brown in the cover shot. Likke it black but Brown and Gold is a no no

Love the new look. Is it better or worse than the old look? Personally, I don't really care. It's fresh and seems to more in keeping with the general tone we're seeing in the Marvel NOW! previews. Always liked the black and gold combo on Mainframe. This seems like a step in that direction. Also, viz a viz the liquid armour; (a) it's a lot more believable than the current one (that lives in hollows of his bones, WTF?) (b) They already tried this with the S.K.I.N. armour (remember THAT?) and that was going pretty well, until it got owned by Ultron. So yeah, not bad overall. Rather looking forward to Marvel NOW! Peace!

someone said something about is it like the DC reboot... not really. Its more like they are adding in a new marvel universe. Ultimate Universe will still continue, Uncanny universe (anyone hear that they are bringing out Uncanny Avengers? OMG my comic book shop guy told me and i nearly died). It is in a way like how they started Marvel Point one.

i hope the red isn't gone forever :(

I'm glad Marvel have changed the artist for this series, wasn't a big fan of Salvador Larroca in The Invincible Iron Man.

The suit that was hidden in his bones was much better functionally. Downgrading back to the suitcase just seems like a dumb move on his part. There's hopefully a good in-universe explanation.

I love the design though.

Am I the only one who's getting tired of Iron Man's constant change in attire? And every suit is meant to be some big "Main Armor" upgrade. I waited a long time to hear what made the Bleeding Edge so special. And aside from some random feats, its honestly just Extremist with a Light-Bright fetish. This one's no different. Its like they stopped having relevance for function.

Okay this series definitely pleases me, but it won't be the same without the red and gold, but hey things change

These pages look amazing. The colors are just so awesome! Marvel NOW! is looking pretty good so far, still waiting for some official previews before I decide to buy anything or not.

color me crazy, but why carry liquid metal in a briefcase? LIQUID METAL! If he is going to do that, why not carry around a giant Gatorade jug? Laugh at me, but i was a fan of the X-men, and only followed Iron Man in the old animated series, but was there ever a time where he carried it in a case where the armor was paper thin until he put it on? That would be more believable than carrying around a case of goo which turns him into a killing machine. And if you notice, it is gray in the case, but gold and black when he puts it on. he has control of the colors? Does that mean he can turn it PINK?!?!?! HAAHAH

Red ans Silver is my favorite color combo.

Though knowing Marvel, he will be black in his classic red & yellow suit by the time the new movie hits the screen!

I do miss the red :( But with that said, the way this interior art looks and the little readout we've been given, makes me have new faith in the NOW concept. Full speed ahead I say!

But the suit is looking nice, and considering that Land is doing the pencils, the book is looking that way too.

Wow! Not only he traces all his figures, the guy does not even bother to draw one bit of a background. I'm going to continue on boycotting anything he appears in. This guy should not continue damaging good stories with his "art".

4 pages solicited (Inc. cover) and helmet is copy-paste in every one of them. What a talent.

That guy is so bad, his comics are not even worth pirating, let alone spending a dime on them.

Amazing, Marvel revamping this messy universe could be a good thing.

I like this new suit now. Not that I didn't like it, but I was just getting into the present one. It's so new. This one is cool tho. I also liked the blue and gold suit from the Iron Man Anime'

Reminds me of Hard Drive or whatever his name was from MC2.

I like the whole liquid that will transform into his armor. Its more quicker and eaiser to carry it around. You'll never know when you need it. But I'm not a fan of the color. Black is good just not together with the gold.

I'm still not feeling the black. I'm also kinda annoyed that Tony's solution to everything is build another suit.

Nah... Bleeding Edge was better. IMHO

My only issue with Tony not having the Bleeding Edge armor is that it's unrealistic in this day and time. One of the things Fraction brought up and made a good point about is that Tony without the suit would be killed instantly by most of his villains. if it weren't for Extremis in The Five Nightmares storyline he would have been killed by the suicide bombers and when he was testing out his new car for Stark Resilient, if he hadn't had the Bleeding Edge armor, he would have been killed when the car exploded due to sabotage.
 
I understand that not having the suit on him at all times can sometimes add suspense to the story, but this feels more like a downgrade for Tony as the Bleeding Edge armor was just that, the "bleeding edge" of the Iron Man armors. But going back to a suitcase armor seems like a step back for Tony who is the guy that's always looking towards the future; it just feels out of character for him to be going backwards.

Well thank God Greg Land is still getting work. I would hate to think both him and Leifeld would be out of work at the time. It must have been really difficult for him to find porn movies with a guy in a robot suit to trace off of.

@War Killer: I'll explain the best I can about what's been going on lately.

Tony got drunk during Fear Itself and someone knew and that someone blabbed and happened to be inside of Resilient and nobody knew who it was. Later on it turns out it's Spymaster working under Mandarin who has gathered all of Iron Man's enemies to team up and kill him, basically. General Babbage and Justine Hammer intervene and threatened Tony but in the end gave him a device he sticks on his chest reactor that limits his Iron Man suit usage. If he's drunk it won't turn on and they can turn off the Iron Man suit whenever they please. Kinda. So let's say he's fighting Crimson Dynamo and Blizzard. In the middle of the battle he could be seconds away from winning and just like that, Iron Man armour gone and in come Detroit Steel to steal all the glory. Detroit Steel now owned by Hammer.

In the end Tony has enough of being played around and decides to turn things in his favour and he just turns up to Babbage's office and says "I quit being Iron Man." and later he gets the help of Reed Richards to vapourise or bleed or sweat out the Iron Man armour from Tony's body and in secret, and it seems only known to Tony, that Rhodey is now taking the role of Iron Man in a whole new armour. Not even Pepper knows who it is.

I think that explains everything roughly with what's been going on.
