First Look Inside Marvel's SIEGE #1

Seven years in the making?

Marvel has shared a first look at SIEGE #1.  It will be from the chart-topping team of Brian Michael Bendis and Oliver Coipel.  This is the end of the Marvel Universe as you know it.  What will be the price of victory?  Are you ready for the SIEGE?

Marvel says this is the comic book event (yay!) that has been seven years in the making.  Every major Marvel character will get involved in the 'greatest assembly of heroes and villains you've ever seen.'

There's also exclusive high quality prints by artists such as Marko Djurdjevic, Simone Bianchi, Billy Tan and more at http://prints.marvel.com.

Norman Osborn's endgame is revealed.  Not everyone will survive.  SIEGE #1 is on sale January 6, 2010 with a $3.99 price tag.  Siege: The Cabal is on sale NOW.

looks pathetic to be honest for such a big event in marvels timeline

"Well, he's the fattest damn superhero I've ever seen..."

I haven't been reading Dark Reign, but I am interested in Siege. Just picked up the one shot today. Hope this turns out good. You've amped me up a lot for this G-Man.

Osborn frames Voltstag and uses it as an excuse to attack Asgard?? GREAT IDEA!

... right?

i just think the sotryline/pictures whatever you wanna call it looks very odd. This is seige involving big bold marvel characters - osborn, cap america, iron man but all we are seeing so far is a fat dude and a football pitch !

Isn't the event really kicked off in today's Siege: The Cabal? I read some of it on my lunch break and it's pretty awesome. This preview is in the back of the issue. I won't spoil it, but I liked what I did read.

I think this looks kinda cool actually, tickles my fancy a little at least lol. Although it does seem slightly unoriginal and trite to have another Stamfordesque incident already in the MU...even a heavily orchestrated one. Oh well, I'll probably check it out and then drop it soon after just  like I did the Reign lol. This would appear to be more exciting though and I'm all for seeing the Cap, Tony, and Thor together in some form again.

I don´t believe that this would take seven years in the making.

this looks pretty freakin amazing!! I can't wait

Posted by dreamcaster

It looks epic but it also looks like a copy from how the Civil War started.
What next? Mickey mouse creates a explosion that wipes out thousands of people at a beach and then it turns into some huge marvel vs Disney war? ¬¬

I guess you didn't read Siege: The Cabal today cause there is a reason why Osborn did this.

However I don't think 1 Asgardian at the heart of this incident is enough. Bendis could have been more creative.

What's with comics and using pitches to open a comic? Deadpool... ya had the baseball pitch o_O This one... ya got a football pitch.

I liked Siege:The Cabal and the Dark Avengers Annual despite the tepid reviews they are garnering.

The selling point to me with Siege is that the central story is only three issues.

Posted by waruikumo

Just a thought is the "dark reign" really bendis's tenure @ marvels continuity controls?

New costumes and Super Hero's fighting super hero's Really alot to build on for the next generation.

The Siege hasn't even really begun, ad I'm already prepared for it to be over with.

From the chart we see that it's lasting through April. Is that as far as it's going, or is it lasting the full year again?

I was thinking much the same thing.  Replace Speedball with a fat immortal, et voila...

I also think that because this is meant to be the 'last chapter' out of a very long industry-wide-changing string of stories that we (the comic buyers) can't wait for it to  be over.  I mean, let's face it; this is Marvel Comics.  It isn't Lord of the Rings.  We want action, but we also want to see the light at the end of the tunnel, with an ending to the story.

This story has just been far too long since Nitro detonated in Stamford.

Osborn engineering another Stamford incident sounds interesting actually, though it will probably blow up in his face and result in his downfall but that's what we all want anyway right?

Same here.  I'm sure he's immortal, so hopefully he'll be alright.  Hopefully when Asgard is returned to it's original state in another dimension, Volstagg will go with it & live gloriously away from the troubles of Earth.

@Gambler:
My bad.. I suppose it does make more sense as opposed to Marvel just getting lazy with ideas

This is Civil War all over again  *sigh*
Posted by jloneblackheart

I don't see why everyone keeps comparing it to Civil War. It seems different to me. I mean, Stamford was an accident that opened everyone's eyes to superpowered heroes and villains and split the superhero community and forced them to battle one another.

This explosion was a set up by a villain posing as a hero for his own devious purposes. It was a set up.

The only thing I see the same is an explosion and civilians getting killed in the process.

I'm looking forward to this. But it's probably because I'm a huge Loki fan for reasons I'm not sure of myself.

I'm not saying it isnt a lazy idea, just pointing out that the reason its comparable to the Stamford incident is because -

Civil War was awsome

In my opinion, this crossover event should be bigger. It should encompass more books than just the Avengers books. What about individual heroes? What about Invincible Iron Man or Captain America or Fantastic Four?

yaaawn does Marvel still publish comics?

Posted by Grim

im glad more people are looking at this and getting upset, but i actually want to read this one just becuase its ending this whole big harrah. I've never liked how willing marvel was to just destroy key componets about their characters for good, but it seems like this one will end with Marvel's big 3 back together again. And Fury back in Shield. And Osborn back to being a villain. I really never appreciated how he was suddenly the head of Sheild. WTF? SO you can be a maniacal killer for years, and then save the world once and everyone trusts you with high tech super shit? No.

and fyi, this event is not seven years in the making. maybe they are susing story elements from 7 years ago (and good for them), but 7 years ago they where just geeting out of bankruptcy and pushing half-@$$ed stories. No way im goona belive that the mascots of so-so story telling where just crapping out bad stories while they planed for a good one 7years in the future. Im sorry. DC plans 4 or 5 years into the future. Marvel just reacts really fast.
but yeah. kinda looking forward to it.

i think i might actually buy this. the art is beyond phenomenal! maybe i'll wait for trade.

but who are those characters fighting volstaag?

Posted by rouju

Well, if an idea so similar already implemented before, it will twisted to a different ending. I guess I'm curious to see how this Dark Reign ends (maybe the dark reign for eternity?)

Thats what 7 years in the making means, playing upon the events of what has happened.
Since its only the first few pages of issue 1 we have no ide whats going on here.

Of Course this looks familiar Osborn and Loki plan it during the Cabal, the event is supposed ot be just like the beginning of civil war, except this time it isnt an accident, as Osborn wants and needs a reason to attack Asgard. Read stuff before you go and tear it apart.

You think Geoff Jones knew that Batman was going to Bite the Bullet when he first planted the Black Lantern Seed way back at the end of the Sinestro Corps War?  If you want to get Technical, stories like Batman RIP and Blackest Night have been building for 20+ years, since GJ sees Alan Moores GL writing as sacred lore. Not saying it isn't as Moore's GL was awesome, and Zur En Arrh was from waaay back, did the writers have a devious plan to use that for the future? Probably not. But it's nice when writers make reference to those older stories.
Posted by The Devil Tiger

Let's just say that I'm rather sceptic...

Ok, the art look great, the action seems badass, but the writing...well it's juts seems lame. It's like we get a remixed story of the last past year...

Maybe that's just the limit of the Bendis writing ?

Please, understand me, he has done some wonderful thing : Ultimate spider man (I loved it...) and Powers (Love it too !), even Dark Reign has some good concept story and moment, but THIS...is...disapointing !  :(
Edited by Grim
@Dr. Maxwell: i know thats technically what it means, but i hate it when its used in comics, cuz they try to make it seem like they've actually been working it for however many years. MArvel doesn't plan that far ahead. Siege is probably the first story they have ever made that was planed over a year ago (i think they planed  it when Civil War was big).
When DC says "this has been x amount of years in the making" their usually actually referring to an exact moment when a person did thsi or that in an exact comic that many years ago. They Put Donna Troy and Kyle in a GL comics with the Monitor 7 or 8 months before 52. And then 3 years worth of events and stories all played (almost) perfectly into one another. Thats a result of DC sitting down and saying "this is our timeline for the next x years", and then having everyone collaborate and flesh out for months before they actually get to work on their titles. Thats why there are Preludes and Countdowns.
Marvel takes talented artist and writers and says "do this now." and then the small changes that are always made at the last minute completely break the stories. Thats why Civil War came out f nowhere. no planted seeds or hints at whats to come, just BOOm:Civil war. And it did work... mostly. It just comes down to weather you want a mind numbing awesome story all at once, or over slowly with a fantastic finish. which i think is the difference between Marvel and DC fans.
however, i dont mean for this to be a marvel vs Dc deal. Like i said, im interested in Siege, and i like that Marvel is starting to plan ahead. I just didnt like the the 7 years in the making deal. DC wasnt saying "this is 60 years in the making" about Libra and Final Crisis, cuz they knew damn well it had only been on the table for 2 or 3.

WHY, MARK MILLAR?!?!? WHY?!?!?!?
