First Look: FANTASTIC FOUR #6 - an Original Sin Tie-In

Friends will become enemies.

No Caption Provided

This June, the fall of the first family continues in the explosive FANTASTIC FOUR #6 – a tie-in to Original Sin! From Eisner-award winning writer James Robinson, fan-favorite artist Leonard Kirk and the peerless Dean Haspiel– they’ve been a family ever since that fateful day they ventured into the cosmic unknown, the day the Fantastic Four were born.

Bonded together as family, Johnny Storm became the hot-headed Human Torch while Ben Grimm became the hideous monster known only as The Thing. Try as he may, super-scientist Reed Richards was never able to reverse the process and return Ben to his normal form. It is a failure that has haunted him to this very day. But what does Johnny have to do with Ben’s irreparable condition? And why has he lied about it all this time?

Now, thanks to the events of Original Sin, Ben Grimm is about to learn that his closest ally has condemned him to a life sentence as a monster. And he won’t be happy about it! Bruised, beaten and broken both emotionally and physically, is this the end for the Fantastic Four? The dismantling of the first family continues as Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben crash headlong into Original Sin this June in FANTASTIC FOUR #6!

@New_World_Order well, I don't think that she could beat Thor alone, but she is more than capable of beating Hulk, also considering that she looks very angry.

@fables87 I think that it is drawn that way since it is a flashback of their old adventures. Btw, love your avatar(I'm a gret fan of the Fables' comics).

So glad I dropped this book at the latest restart. I hate crossovers plus they are ending it anytime soon.

This isn't really a crossover. It is just a thematic tie in in that it is showcasing one of the FF's original sins.

@scarletbatman: close enough. I've never really been into marvelnow!'s weekly events. Hell I've dropped everything they do except Thor and if he tied in I'd skip that issue.

@g_man Tony, I HAVE to ask, but I've been seeing and reading a lot of rumors, from other comic book websites, that Marvel will cancel the Fantastic Four books very soon. This is supposedly a strategy to try to hurt Fox's latest movie and to try to win over fans' appeals for Fox to sell the Fantastic Four rights back to Marvel. There were also some tweets from Rob Lifeld recently. Is there any truth to these rumors??? If so, will you address this with a video?

no you don't, you know every 90% have no actual significance to main series. Use your brain, don't fall for the marketing.

Marvel NOW does not run weekly events, any more than events were of a weekly nature in the Heroic Age.

Thor is getting a branch off, 5 issue mini series called "Original Sin: Thor and Loki: The Tenth Realm." It will be written by Aaron.

It has been officially denied by Marvel. FF is not going to be canceled any time soon (baring low sales).

@scarletbatman: dude, really? All of their events dovetail into the next. How many weeks this year will marvelnow! not have an event or tie in going on somewhere? They are weekly now. And as long as those series don't interfere with the main book I couldn't care less. I didn't follow Forever Evil either because it didn't impact the main Batbooks.

Of course crossovers are happening somewhere every week. It is a tool the publishers use to lure people into buying more comics and trying different series out.

Define "the main Batbooks". Because if Nightwing is on that list, then bull.

@lcazt1996: Alright well a "main" Batbook would be any book where Batman himself is the lead, such as Batman, Detective, Eternal and Batman and Guest Star. Nightwing falls under the BatFAMILY subgenre which is a book starring a member of Batman's extended crimefighting family that he personally trained or endorses. These include Batgirl and Batwing, but not Batwoman or Superman. Got it? Cool.

This just feels wrong. With all these rumors swirling, I find it hard to enjoy this series, on top of my dislike of the first story-arc.

No, it is not being canceled.

Tom Brevoort officially denied the cancellation.

Via Comicbook. com:

"[T]here’s a lot of fear and crazy going on out in the world as people jump to conclusions and work themselves up into a lather. It was a good weekend for those that profit from such things, I expect.

We are publishing FANTASTIC FOUR. Next month, we will be publishing FANTASTIC FOUR. A year from now, assuming that it’s still selling well, we will be publishing FANTASTIC FOUR. Given enough time, anything can happen—we went a couple of years, for example, without a THOR series, as well as a year and a half with FF, AVENGERS, CAP and IRON MAN not being a part of the Marvel Universe. So anything can happen. But it probably won’t.

And for the couple of folks who punctuated their complaints by saying that they were dropping all of their Marvel books, and switching over to DC—well, first off, you must think that I’m a very simple man. But you can, as always, do with your time and money as you will. I will point out that if the purpose of your endeavor is to insure the continuation of FANTASTIC FOUR, then perhaps buying MORE FANTASTIC FOUR would be in better service to that goal than buying less. Just a thought.

Oh, and James Robinson sent me notes for the 75th Anniversary Special story that he is doing this morning. And as you’d expect, the Fantastic Four are at the core of it."

So am I wrong to think that all of these arcs are inevitably leading to a reboot in the universe? They're gonna show what everyone did wrong in the past then reboot it like nothing happened so everyone can get over it XD

@New_World_Order: Trust me, whenever there's a scene like this that means Thor and Hulk are going to be WAY downplayed XD that's like a favorite pass time for marvel writers. Especially the ones who write spiderman, I mean really? F**K Venom, he'd get MOPPED by Thor all day. smh

There is a big rumor that the events in Hickman's New Avengers (and maybe Remender's Uncanny Avengers) are feeding into a big event where the entire MU is rebooted.

No need to get pissy. Some people would consider Batgirl and Nightwing as "main" Batbooks because they are characters that have been part of the Batman mythos for 1. Just barely less time than Batman himself (Nightwing) and 2. Longer than Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne, and longer than Dick Grayson has been Nightwing (Batgirl). I personally would consider them main Batbooks. But clearly you've got little-to-no respect for anybody besides yourself so whatever.

Yes, said rumor is flying around the internet. Since a reboot seemed to work for DC, Marvel will probably go for it sooner or later. As for the rumored cancellation of Fantastic Four, let's hope that this rumor is proven false. However, I am not convinced yet, one way or the other. We will know the truth soon enough. Until then, let us enjoy the current run!
