First Look: Daredevil Goes To Subterranea in DAREDEVIL #9

Marvel gives fans a peek at Daredevil's journey into Mole Man's land.

If you've read the last eight issues of DAREDEVIL then you already know he's been spending a lot of time in New York City. The ninth issue in the series, however, takes him far from Hell's Kitchen and thrusts him into Subterranea. Marvel has given readers the following preview pages, gorgeously illustrated by Paolo Rivera depicting Matt aboard a small boat, paddling his way across the river that may very well lead him to Mole Man.

DAREDEVIL #9 (DEC110647)
Written by MARK WAID
Pencils & Cover by PAOLO RIVERA
FOC – 1/23/12, ON SALE – 2/15/12

The book, which has received praise from critics across the board, will see its ninth issue hit store shelves on February 9th, 2012. Those of you who haven't had a chance to get in on the relaunch of Daredevil by Mark Waid will have a perfect chance to do so. The hardcover edition of Waid's first volume of the current ongoing Daredevil series will be made available on January 25th and will collect issues 1-6 of the series. A definite buy for any Daredevil fan and anyone coming a little late the party. Check out the three breathtakingly beautiful unlettered pages below and let us know if this is an issue you are looking forward to.

This looks fantastic! I remember posting on a thread about the merits and demerits of "old art" ( i.e. golden and silver age art styles). While I enjoy old art in moderation, It can get a little monotonous and drab at times. What I absolutely love is the tempered and stylized "classic art" aesthetic that many artists are using today. Paolo Rivera has this in spades. This is an absolutely beautiful and classic book. And I love the concept. Daredevil in Subterranea makes perfect sense given his powers. I love the grim and gritty Daredevil of the last decade, but I also love this new and decidedly more adventurous Daredevil. Matt Murdock has never been so cool.

Row, row, row your boat,

Gently down the stream.

Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,

Life is but a blindness dream. =P

I am just loving this Daredevil and that art looks soooooo good. I have good reason for making one of top ten thing in comics of 2012 to be that Waid never leaves Daredevil. We talk Daredevil and other awesome comic stuff in our last issue of A Comic Book Look:
