First Look: CATACLYSM #0.1 - The beginning of the End for the Ultimate Universe?

wait, so is that last picture the Ultimate universe? they're all 616

So is the entire Ultimate line (including Ultimate X Men/ Spider-Man) ending or just the Ultimates title?

Are they going to fusion each characters with their counterpart in earth 616 like they did with Galactus and his? Nooooooooooooo but let see what is going to happen after all we still have a Susan storm from a Future so maybe things will change but this universe will survive the coming of Galactus hunger

So we potentially have the joining of two universes... Makes me wonder, what would happen if Di$ney aver acquired WB or at least DC properties. They have been going after big name brands such as Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, etc... Oh the possibilities

If you read the solicitation for December's Ultimate Spider-man you see he is only going to 616 to figure out how to stop Galactus. There is too much being invested in these story lines to just end. Also they have claimed the end of Ultimate U time and again. Most likely a whole bunch of people will just die in the end.

Now where will I be able to find rehashed Avengers and X-Men storylines?

yeah i think they will kill the ultimate universe too...Since now they got MarvelNOW and the All-newmarvelNOW coming up soon there is no need for the ultimate universe anymore.

I will miss the Ultimate Universe. :C

I hope this event doesn't end Ultimate Spider-Man. Miles Morales and his story is great.

Fantastic! If you haven't started from the beginning of Waid's run, I HIGHLY recommend it. This is a story that takes place over 27 issues, leading up to a 11/10 score of a finale. It's worth checking out from the top.

My problem with Miles being transported to 616 universe is what about his support cast?

I doubt the Ultimate Universe will be destroyed, not exactly Marvel's style (more DC's). As someone said earlier, sounds like Miles is just going to 616 to find out how to stop Galactus. I also just see this setting up things like a crossover or event between the two companies. Marvel doesn't really do reboots. I just see things with what is happening in The Ultimates to play out in Cataclysm (Infinity Gems, Sue Storm from the future/Kang). People are just jumping to conclusions and freaking out.

Anyway,I don't really think that they're gonna kill off the Ultimate Universe. Probably going to:

• Merge the Universes (nononnonononono)
• Just kill off a bunch of characters and they will survive this event (hopefully yes)
• They would be rebooted (incredibly unlikely).

But this isn't the first time when they're world was threatened to be destroyed (I don't even see why it's assumed that this is the end),but I agree. Which is slightly wishful thinking,but if they invest and set up so much in this universe (especially lately),then I have my doubts that it's ending.

I always wanted to see the Avengers legitimately get wrecked by Big G without plot devices saving them.

they will not do it. why? because Ultimate spider-man is Bendis pet project (in the good sense of the word) and he would not be happy if they just end it. worst case scenario? something bad will happen that will screw a lot of characters over like, say...ultimatum. but ending? i don't think it will happen.

@locuas: Meh, they'll save him Miles for something........... Hopefully give him another writer. I tried to get into his series, but to me he was just a bland character. I don't hate him or anything, I just think he needs a better writer.

Also I can't wait for this. Ultimate had a few good ideas here and there, mainly all of them in Ultimate Spider-Man and one or two elsewhere, but as a whole the universe is a basterdization of the Marvel Universe. Same way the New 52 is.

So yeah as soon as Galactus is done with Ultimate? I got a brand new horrible DC earth with his name on it.

The Ultimate Universe should have ended when Spider-man died... If you have to add Miles to the 616 just make it the 616 version... Also Marvel should cut it out with the Point One issues. It is a bad idea for numbering that has lasted too long. Just make it a One-Shot or bring back Marvel Premier or Spotlight. How many of the Point One issue that have come out have actually been memorable or worthwhile that you can think of? What's the last Point One that you HAD to read due to post release buzz? What's they last Point One that you weren't disappointed of when you were done reading?

Well the Ultimate Universe is getting fudged up again, hopefully it won't end up canceled.

@cameron83: I love Ultimate U it is a lot of fun. Plus they have introduced a lot of new characters recently. What is the point to expand so much? Plus Brian Woods had stated there is going to be a brand new team picking up Ultimate X-men. Why do that for three book arc just to can them?

I for one don't particularly care about the fate of the Ultimate Universe as a whole. The Ultimate Universe is no longer a fresh starting point, nor is it free of weird continuity at this point. As to whether this could be the end of the Ultimate Universe, that depends entirely on sales figures(I would be interested to see the sales figures of the Ultimate books other than Spider-Man). I don't think they would do away with everything, particularly Miles Morales, but I could see them doing away with most of it.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the early Ultimate Universe, and Ultimate Spider-Man has kept up a consistently excellent tone and quality overall. But Ultimatum killed my interest in the Ultimate Universe. It wasn't the fact that a lot of well known characters were killed(to be honest that opened up some interesting story possibilities), but the callous way that it was done. I still don't understand how Jeph Loeb can write such excellent stories at one moment and then turn around and write absolutely horrible stories within the next breath.

I do think some good stories have been written since Ultimatum, but the universe just feels tainted and pointless to me as a whole at this point. Rather than see more Ultimate Comics, I would love to see Marvel do more stories like what DC has done with the Elseworlds stories and more recent Earth One stories. That way they can still do things they can't in the normal 616 Universe, but not tied down by years of Ultimate continuity.

All of that said, I do feel for those of you who are interested in current story arcs and don't want to see them cut short.

@Smart_Dork_Dude : good luck with that. bendis has been writting it for more than 10 years now without being changed in all this time. if he is still writing it, is because he wants to and marvel is happy with him as the writer.

Don't care about Ultimate universe but if characters do end up dying I hope Ultimate Hulk along with all the other Ultimate Hulk versions die since none of them are as good as the original 616 Hulk is.

Ultimate Marvel is probably being rebooted to fall in line with the movies. You know, so they don't have to continuously shoe-in movie things into 616.

The art seems nice.

Art looks great but yeah this has reboot more than outright end written all over it.
