First Look: CAPTAIN AMERICA #22

Wow, I thought I was alone in hating the current run but boy, was I wrong. I truly hope this next arch is Remender`s last. This has been some of the worst Cap writing in years.

I had to wikipedia Big Barda (Pre-52 Green Arrow is my only exposure to DC,) and wow, you are spot on. Major ripoff.

@optimusfunk: I'm pretty sure the guy on the left is Havok.

So to recap, we now have Captain America without his shield, Thor without Mjolnir, Wolverine without his healing factor, and the Human Torch without his flame. Whose knees are they going to hack off next?

That makes sense. I think his replacement is Falcon, and that's probably Arno Stark on the far left.

Yikes, I had no idea so many people were down on this book and Remender. I'm loving it, and personally can't wait how this all comes together. I feel he's nailed his characterization (like he does with seemingly every character) and hey maybe it's just me but I liked Dr. Mindbubble. The combination of the Super Soldier Serum and LSD was so crazy that it worked. He was a damned hippy, and I loved his dialogue maaaaaaan.

I hope he returns.

Remender is terrible.

You haven't read the 3rd original sin? Get used to Nick Fury Jr because i think were done with normal white nick fury. I wouldn't have a problem with Nick Fury Jr if his name was Nick Fury Jr....just give him his own name say he was a great agent of shield and have him be high ranked at SHIELD so if/when Nick dies you could have the other SHIELD agent lead SHIELD

@inkink: I don't think Ian is dead at the end of the dimension z arc they showed he was alive.

I got no problem with Fury Junior... My problem though is when they push him to replace his pop. Why call him Nick? Keep him as Marcus Fury. I know Sam Jackson Fury is popular but sometimes it looks like 616 Nick will be phased out of existence.

Yeah, me too. I really dislike how Marvel has morphed from the universe I loved reading about into the movie universe, which I have no interest in reading about.

Someone tell Not-Ultimate-Nick-Fury that chewing on sticks of cinnamon does not make you look like a badass

I was considering jumping off after this last arc but if this is Remender's payoff I might stick around to see how it ends. At the very least nothing can be worse than Mindbubble and Iron Nail.

@risingbean: Agreed, I'm just hoping after Axis that Remender leaves the titles since it will most likely get relanched.

@br_havoc: I can dig it. I'm a bit behind because I read in trade. I also think Brubaker is a tough act to follow. But I do know that this SSS failure is a story retread we don't need.

While he might not have been considered an exemplar with their terms for these things, I doubt his deviance's were very grievous... otherwise they wouldn't have let him lead them.

@risingbean: A far better writer in Brubaker did this storyline in the previous volume. Remender has just brought nothing new to the table of Captain America. His book is either stuck in the 70's era with Kirby like art and a horrible Big Barda rip off or he places it back to his wheel house of doom and gloom. Sales continue to fall and this storyline looks like a last chance to boost them up again. Steve Rogers is not the problem here its poor writing that is causing people to leave.

I agree that the shoehorned "son of Fury" from the 616 is lame. I like actual Ultimate Universe based Fury.

It's dumb and one of the reasons I can't wait for Quesada to be replaced and this done away with. Comics are not meant to be sermons on how to live. If somebody is going to smoke, a comic character isn't going to be what tips the scales. And in the case that some .0000000001% did let it sway them, they deserve what they get for being lemmings.

What I've read has been decent, but this is at least the third time Steve has lost the SSS since the late 90's. Get a new shtick. This is crap I expect Jeph Loeb to pull.

How many times can Rick Remender use the same plot points in this Cap run? We get it you want to take things from Steve you killed his fiance for no reason, you killed his son for no reason and now your taking away his powers. We get it, Rick you want to show us Cap will fight no matter how much he loses but that story is anything but original.

I have read Cap for years and have seen many good runs but Remender's has been one of the worst I can remember.

I can't wait for Remender to leave this title. He has zero clue how to write Captain America, his book feels so dated.

@novemberx2: The whole notion of Red Skull being a pseudo-Nazi is kinda stupid from the get go, considering he himself looks nothing like any master race.

didn't really like Remender take on red skull in uncanny avengers, too many contradictions, hated mutants but gave himself mutant powers and surrounds himself with super power humans (pretty much mutants).
