First Look: AVENGERS #1

I just realized that Opena is staying on for 3 issues, and then Kubert takes over duties at #4... please let OPENA STAY LONGERR!!! :-(

So the first story arc is............. exactly the same plot as the movie? good to know. just buying the movie would cost me less money.

@stambo42: I have to think he may be using models, possibly, and that is understandable and cool. Alex Ross does that quite a bit. This artist is just really good and the fact he is making me think otherwise is a testament to his talent. I regret implying anything negative, I am just really impressed.

I don't know his process but I highly doubt he's tracing. Tracing tends to produce flat and lifeless images. Whether he's using models or just has an internalized sense of the figure is debatable. If you study the stuff enough, you can produce lifelike figures in space out of your head. The stuff that really impresses me is Iron Man's armor, keeping that stuff consistent and detailed is tricky. He is making stuff up though. Look at the hands, they're too perfect, or heightened for dramatic effect... this isn't a detraction, it's what style is about, beyond technique. One of the things I love about Opena is that his characters have distinctive faces. here I would not be surprised if he has models... or at least a specific face he refers to, either internally or externally for each character.

The dude is a beast, but everything here is humanly possible, and better for it.

jerome opena's work on x-force is equally as stunning. remender and opena's run on the dark angel saga will go down as dare i say...? one of the all-time greatest X title runs ever.

The thing that really bugs me is since Marvel is just copying their movies, certain members of the Avengers that weren't in the movies are being totally ignored. I don't want Black Widow, I want Wasp and Scarlet! I don't want Haweye, I want Vision!

That art looks incredible. I might pick this up actually. I've been looking for a good Avengers title. I really loved Hickman on Fantastic Four. Hope he delivers here.

Ive waited my whole life basically for the comics i loved and characters who i followed to be made into movies and now that its here and now ........looks like this is the line in the sand, love the art and everything blah blah blah, but, dammit if im not sensing an end coming, Stan Lee wont live forever and the Disney shark tank will devour and crap back out everything that he started as soon as hes gone........anyways Debbie Downer time there.....

Looks awesome and very interested in where they are going with this Now 52 thing but not gonna bite on all the hooks they throw out at me, feel like its a watch how it plays out kinda thing. Beautiful pencils for sure.

I really hope Marvel didn't chicken out on the whole redesign because I was really digging the fact that they were finally giving him a suit that looked more like something a soldier would wear instead of just spandex... -___-
 
But other than that, this new series is looking pretty awesome. :)

That is absolutely beautiful work. Really amazing.

Hopefully the right inker and colorist will accompany this title. Its a fine line when it comes to inks and colors for this type of work.

I'm not really feeling any of this marvel now garbage, but I really love jerome's art. I hate the thor redesign and i'm glad they scaled cap's redesign back.

So there going with the movie team it seams, so I'm assuming the guy in the back of the jet is Banner. Nice!
