First Look At Marvel's CAPTAIN MARVEL #1

I love her new costume and her new hairstyle. She looks bad-ass! I really hope they keep her this way!! And the art is truly amazing, definitely one of my favorites. 

I still prefer the old costume. Sexier one. The new costume makes her look a lesbian. Sorry.

I need to get my hands on this so badly.

Wow, I don't even like Ms. Marvel that much and even I'm excited about this. The redesign and power boost makes her seem like much more of a respectable heroine especially without that skimpy costume she used to wear. Although I think they went a little overboard with the hair...

I'm sorry. I don't like any of this.

The costume is dated and generic and not sexy. She looks more like a female Miracleman than Captain Marvel. This is a character who had not one but two iconic costumes- this doesn't cut it.

The hair makes her look like a 1980's wrestler.

I don't like them getting rid of the "Ms." either. Marvel was so forward in the 70's calling her "Ms.". It is unique to her and a feminist statement. Now she is just a female version of a male character when she used to have her own thing going on.

AT first I didn't like the new costume, but after a while and after seeing different images (mostly fan art) of her new look I've started warming up to it. I just think her hair looked better longer or at least look something more along the lines of this...

I also think the new mask/helmet just looks stupid and really don't see the point in why she even needs it. Her skin is bulletproof! why does she need a helmet???

Helmet is a homage/tribute to the Kree's empirialistic militant way of life. Plus look at the older heroes from the Golden & Silver Age her costume is similar to theirs with a modernized twist. BTW in the top picture doesn't it look like Spideys thinking about copping a feel on Carol? LOL

If you were flying back & forth between Earth & space you'd need something to protect your face. Screw identity think about the bugs, birds, anything else that flies, debris, & other stuff that's going to hit your face while flying in & out of the atmosphere

But that's my point. She has super strength and her skin is bullet-proof. If bullets can't even hurt her why would she worry about bugs, or birds, or anything like that. Not to mention she's spent years with a simply domino mask as Ms. Marvel, flying around all the time both on Earth and in space and never seemed to need face protection, so why all of the sudden does she need it now???

Ok think of it this way her identity is public & she doesn't need protection right? BUT if you're driving down the street in a convertible or on motorcycle with no or a small windshield do you want stuff flying in your face? Yeah it won't hurt her but it's still going to be annoying as heck. Plus maybe she rocks the helmet as part of Kree decree like it makes her easy to converse or whatever with them or maybe she doesn't want people staring at her 24/7

not too fond of the suit, looks real generic but I gotta say the art looks amazing and my man Absorbing man is in the house (most likely getting his butt kicked though) sad face

why do I feel that this is going to reek of gurl powah , I keep hearing Bender from Futurama. "Single female intergalatic super hero doing superwoman stuff " whenever these previews are released. I have a feeling this will be cancelled within 8 issues. They keep going back and trying to make Carol like Green Lantern for some reason, I guess because both flew planes?.....what Marvel doesn't realize is that Hal is interesting and has an entire mythos to back up his series, many of the Captain Marvel stuff fell short because Captain Marvel was a space level power player, he worked better out in space because earth criminals needed to be above your average super villain to pose a threat to him. Maybe if they took her into the intergalactic area again and had her fighting alongside the likes of Adam Warlock / Gladiator and the Annihilators / Nova / Silver Surfer and got Carol off earth the Ms Marvel titles would last longer. Also....there is one and only Captain Marvel, he died from cancer in a very well written, well drawn story the whole idea behind the character is that to have the title of Captain Marvel you have to EARN it and Carol has not earned it.

Also it just occurred to me, many of the former people to take the title Captain Marvel are dead now....god maybe its marvels plan to just put Carol out of her misery once and for all...

Suit's not that bad;but the hair and the helmet...looks like someone was missing "Binary".

When does this come out? I know July, but any exact date?

Well this is... ugly... like everyone else I'll say it. Her hair is ugly. as is that helmet thing. grow it out so it's still wavy, but also short. y'know? but the art itself for the book is just ugly. won't be reading it.

I hope the creative team knows what they're doing. I like Carol but haven't seen her in anything worth a damn in a very, very long time.

Hmm this looks good, I've really read much of anything with Carol Danvers just cos I kinda see her as generic super heroine #3 but at the least I'm liking the new look and name change, I may just check this out

Oh, Right. Um...well Personally I'd rather see Ed McGuinness' artwork on interiors rather than what we're seeing here. Ironically, I think her boobs are way too big on the interior artists drawings. It's like she's got two additional heads in there. That'd be another reason why I like EdEx's version more...in addition to the colors of Dexter Vines popping more. As far as the hair goes...I have no quarrels=]

Also, if she's inheriting the mantle of Captain Marvel mantle, it could be logical to assume she may get some sort of power boost, which, if so, would make her awesomely powerful. I like this. Back to the days of her ridiculous Binary strength!!!!

All this series will have done is destroy one of Marvel's few female characters who could've held a book and make Marvel say "see, people don't want female stars! they wouldn't even buy a book about one of our biggest". No people wouldn't buy a book about a horrible take on a popular character that you completely re-interpretted and re-designed and then fobbed off to a woman who just happens to be the wife of one of their architects.

Way to go Marvel. Eugh.

I agree with EVERYTHING said here. Marvel has made some great decisions over the years and then some really stupid ones. Most of the stupid ones are still the number of ways they ruined Spider-Man. But I have to say, this definitely tops the chart. Once this failure of a series gets canceled, she'll be back as Ms. Marvel again. Bank on it.
