First Look At Marvel Variants For "Daredevil #500"

Marvel celebrates the big event!

It seems like Marvel is all about the big issues this year. First with their release of Captain America #600, then with Spiderman #600 and now they are giving us Daredevil #500. To celebrate the major issue, they commissioned three major artists to do variant covers to the major 40-page issue by Ed Brubaker and Michael Lark.

All the artists that Marvel was able to get to do the variant covers to these issues are all extremely accomplished in their own right.

John Romita Sr.

Geof Darrow

Alex Ross

Does anyone not think the ninja cover is the best?

One of my favorite heroes in Marvel reaches a milestone. Not to mention I'm loving the "Return of the King" storyline. Here's to 500 more Daredevil issues.

John Romita Sr.'s cover can be summed up in one word. "Lackluster". That cover is so dull. Sure, the character is well drawn, but would it have killed him to add a city scape? The drawing is really dark and the coloring is flat. This looks like impressive fan made art.

The others are a whole different story.
Geof Darrow's cover is almost too detailed. If that makes any sense. lol You do have to admire the time it took to make all of that. I do love the little ACDC Easter Egg in there.

Alex Ross' cover is wild. It's very much his style. A skewed angle and a dynamic pose.  Looks like Daredevil just beat the crap out of everyone in a wild west saloon. That, or things go really out of hand at an Tumbleweed Steakhouse.

Funny I thought the Romita cover was the best, but yea compared to the others it is kinda lackluster.
Darrows looks to sketchy for my taste, allthough all thouse litte eggs in there are cool.  I like the "Hi Frank" on the platform.
And the Alex Ross cover is classic great Ross art.
I also like the use of fire in the Otto one.
If I am able to, I will be getting the Romita one for it's simplicity :)

I'm lovin' the ninja cover... that's showing Frank Quitely how to do detailed and make it look good! :D

The first two are actually pin-ups in the issue. The covers are by Djurdjevic, Dell otto, the Ross one you have posted, and Darrow (not the one you posted).

Surely you're kidding. Both comics have spectacular covers.

Spidey's were good, but if I remember I only really like one of them... These are just amazing.

  Geof Darrow cover kicks ass

I have to say, as much as i like John Romita Sr.'s its got to be Geof Darrow's one for me, really great stuff

I like the original cover the best

Every looks so calm in the Geof Darrow one.

I think these are awesome! When does it come out?

Its only a matter of time before someone (Vance) uses that second cover in a battle thread. Bet.

This issue seems cool. I'm collecting Alex Ross covers so i'll pick it up

Alex Ross's stuff is kind of overrated now. No doubt he's a great artist but a lot of the magic that I felt when Kingdom Come first hit the stands has dwindled away.

That being said... Darrow's art is killer. It's very kinetic and really captures the sleaziness of Hell's Kitchen.

I have just read issue #500, and I must say it was wonderful. So far it has been a long drawn-out story, but this climax made it worth it. I haven't seen this much action in a comic in a long time. A must read!
