First Look: 100th ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL – SPIDER-MAN #1

100 years? Get a glimpse at what Spider-Man will be up to in the year 2061.

Marvel is pleased to present your first look at the 100th ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL – SPIDER-MAN #1, from rising star creators Sean Ryan and In-Hyuk Lee. What does the wallcrawler look like in the far-flung future of 2061? The Kingpin has taken control of his ultra-powerful techno-symbiote suit. One of his most powerful weapons in the hands of one of his most powerful enemies, Spider-Man will have to prove once again why he’s the greatest superhero in the world!

“We’re jumping into a story already in progress for this issue,’” explains writer Sean Ryan in an interview with Marvel.com. “We’re treating this issue as if it was the last issue in a long arc that has been running in the Spider-Man books for a while. This issue sees the story coming to an end. The idea of the story being that the symbiote is back, but it’s been infused with technology that gives its host the power to plug in to the grid and control anything connected to it. And this being the future, that’s just about everything.

Each week in July sees a new 100th Anniversary Special featuring fan-favorite creators and rising stars as they envision the Marvel Universe of 2061! With the Kingpin in possession of a deadly weapon capable of limitless control, it’s up to the one and only Spider-Man to stop him. But how can he?

Find out as the wallcrawler of tomorrow fights for his life when the 100th ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL – SPIDER-MAN #1 hits comic shops this July!

So this means Kingpin will come back as a top class villain again?

Btw, wasn't venom in space now?

The 100th anniversary gimmick is garbage, DC > Marvel

@danhimself: 2061? Why is peter so young then?

it's like with their sliding timeline....it's what the comic will be like when our year is 2061....Peter will always be in his mid to late twenties

Might be cool.

this is the future, dude, and more than likely an alternate reality, like spider-man reign

More horrible fanfics

You haven't even read the issue or seen the review yet. Don't be one of those people.....

but that is what this is, the entire blurb reads like a bad fanfic and this isn't even the true 100th Anniversary special will be unless Marvel have a time machine.

I've been out on Spider-Man and marvelnow! for a long time, but interested.

Well have to see, lets just give it a chance.

The premise seems a lil cliched but the art looks fantastic.

Peter looks Korean

*cough*

(granted its not nearly as bad as the dude doing the new X-force book)

We know Peter will still be young when we read his comics. Even through 2061. But the story wise has to make him older when the story sets in 2061. It still doesn't make sense why Peter has to be young. It would be great if he had white hair. Look at Hawkeye and Logan for example. The Old Man Logan storyline takes place 50 years after the fall of the heroes. So why not make Peter old as he faces his double worst enemy? This sliding timeline as you stated, creates some confusion. If we able to live through 2061, would we have to see comics set in 2061?

I see Venom has some new powers

yes just like now the comics are set in 2014 but Peter was created in the 60's and he's still young...the same will still apply in 2061

I'm interested to see if they change Peter for the story. It looks like he killed the dude at his feet so is that his personality, the influence of the symbiote or was he trying to put pressure on the wound.

Would be interesting if Peter didn't have any spider powers in this special. It was all based on the symbiote but as a result of being bonded to it for awhile, and naturally studying it as a scientist, he uses his intellect to build a spider-man suit that simulates his traditional powers but is closed off to control.

I'm scared he's gonna eat people.

What's with all the future stories nowadays?

Posted by Bow2Zodd

Wait, so is that supposed to be eddie brock lying on the ground?

Edited by Wowlock

I am kinda confused, is this suppose to be the storylines in year 2061 of OUR future or in the comic timeline ? I mean if it is in the comic, those guys don't look like they are from 2061 :)

The artwork looks absolutely sick. Venom is always a visually imposing/striking figure. I much prefer the hulking Venom look, and pairing it with Kingpin is quite stunning as well. I think that picture with half Venom half Wilson is one of the greatest things I've ever seen.

Massive Venom FTW!

I originally thought that this 100th anniversary Marvel thing was Marvel being cocky, didn't realise it was a event. So is it basically Future's End Marvel style?

Posted by Yeison

Ese simbionte es mas Puta ¬¬

Posted by ClawFist

@lyrafay:

No, not really. It's not a big story arc event, the books as far as I know don't tie in together. It's just a fun little "What might our books look like in 2061." thing.

Holy sh!t, Kingpin got the symbiote?

Posted by Outsethero

I am really interested in this!

Posted by MideonNViscera

I'm really disappointed by how many people can't understand this concept haha

Posted by IDontLikeBirds

Interesting idea, just not interested in it myself. Little disappointing that they couldn't age Parker a teeny tiny bit (sliding timeline and all, it seems it didn't slide at all in this instance). They do age heroes a bit from time to time: Parker isn't a teen like when he got his powers, Reed and Sue Richards have had kids who are tweens now, Bucky is an adult and not a teen sidekick anymore, etc.

So does Kingpin has the abilities of Electro and have the Venom Symbiote and possibly have some kind of machinery like Rhino or Doc Ock?
