First Image of Paul Rudd from 'Ant-Man'

Scott Lang is ready to steal something, I guess.

We know that production on Ant-Man has (finally) just begun (reported yesterday). The movie is directed by Peyton Reed and is set to arrive in theaters on July 17, 2015.

Walt Disney Studios Publicity has shared the first official image of Paul Rudd as Scott Lang. Since he's a "thief-turned-superhero," of course he's walking around in a hoodie. I guess you can't trust those hoodie-wearing folk. With filming taking place in San Francisco, it's clear we'll get to see that part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It may not be the super-exciting first image we want, but of course we can't have everything revealed at once.

What are your thoughts on this movie? The latest is this movie will tie into some of the past of the Cinematic Universe with flashbacks.

I hope this movie's still good even without Edgar Wright.

I trust Marvel not to screw up at this point with their movies. They haven't yet.

I'm still bummed they turned Pym into an old man who probably won't be seeing much action. Lang is my least favorite of the Ant-Mans. I'm sure the movie will change my mind and i'll enjoy it, but right now..I must admit, im still a little bitter.

@mr__kamikaze: But we may see more of Pym in action in the flashbacks. There's supposed to be some early SHIELD connection.

that'd be cool if Hank was a founder and/or SHIELD agent or maybe he could be the guy who conceived the Avengers Initiative in the first place (as sort of a callback to his suggesting the Avengers form in the comics)

Its Paul Rudd in a hoodie.

He also appears to be carrying a bag of some sort...

I can't bring myself to be excited for this movie considering what they're doing to Hank and Jan. I'll just rent it once it comes out on Blu-Ray, I guess.

...Ok.

I am not excited for this movie, like at all. I know I should be, but...

Posted by nappystr8

It's not giving us much, but it looks cool anyway. Hopefully this means Ant-Man won't be a full on silly comedy.

Posted by WarpathLobo92

this should be the less marvel movie i am waiting for. they're great characters and so...but still doesn't give me the feeling of being excited about it.

Edited by superior_prime_maybe

i'm okay with Pym being older. But did he have to be that old? It seems like he would have been friends with tony's dad.
If he was in his mid 30 he could have at least kicked ass.

At least yellow jacket is there

I think the picture sets the tone for his character being down on his luck. Looks like he got beat up around the eye.

I worry for the movie because they stuck with the same release date, but I still want to watch it. I would love it if Avengers 2 made a reference to Hank Pym.

All you guys who say you're not going to see the film, or are not excited for it: We all know you're gonna go see it in theaters, its okay, we expect you to deny that and claim you're not gonna, try to convince us otherwise, but we know, and its OK

After Edgar left this movie is at risk of taking itself too seriously

It's a Marvel movie. "Taking itself too seriously" is definitely not a problem.

I know people who genuinely do not go see movies in theatres that they don't look forward to. They either wait, or pirate it.

it's really hard for me not to be excited about any Marvel film....even the ones that weren't all that great weren't all that bad....I also don't care that they made Pym an old man in this...whenever something is set in an alternate universe you have to learn that there are no rules

Naw.

Scott Lang > Hank Pym.

Pym maybe the original Ant-Man, and the creator of the Pym particles but the reason most of his career has been interesting is because of his ties to the Avengers. In his solo adventures back when he debuted in Tales to Astonish, he just had a bunch of wacky adventures that were tantamount to 1950s B movies. He was just a scientist, and Jan was his girlfriend, they fought timeless villains such as Egghead (sarcasm).....ergo, there is nothing all that great about Hank Pym by himself, unless you count the time he hit his wife, or the time he created a Thor clone that killed Black Goliath, or the time he created one of the Avengers most deadly villains. -F*ck Hank Pym-

At least Scott Lang as a desperate thief has an interesting premise right from the start, and the fact that he will be a legacy hero gives him a different dynamic from the other super hero origin stories...

But, lets be honest with ourselves--We all want to see an Ant-Man film with Eric O' Grady where he just goes around using his size manipulation to be a sex pest.

Shhh you might break the illusion that he knows what he's talking about...:p

SLANDER!! That was a Skrull. Need to call his lawyer. Where's She-Hulk when you need her? Maybe I'll call Juggernaut to find out.

@dernman: Pfffft, his legal counsel would be afraid he might create some sort of life form that would go berserk and kill the judge. No one would represent such a f*ck up.

@avenging_x_bolt: I am being facetious mostly. I like Hank Pym, he is pretty indelible to the Marvel Universe and is also from NJ, which is a place only amazing people come from......let me rephrase, amazing people and Italian americans :D, so, I have love for him. However, I do honestly believe having Lang as the main character with Hank as a mentor is a much more interesting way to go. I mean, as I mentioned with Hank you would of probably had another generic origin story on why a character chooses to be a hero....with Lang, you get the whole heist story, which maybe really good, of course, it could also be potentially bad. I think people are just being kind of close minded with the whole thing.

eh. Some movies take themselves more serious than others.

Not gonna lie still really excited for this movie and Paul Rudd looks like such a bad ass right there XD

@the_stegman: I can safely assume this film takes place in California. That, or it's one hell of a green screen effect.

Honestly, I just don't see this as being something to worry about. There's no precedent.
