First Image of Darkseid in 'Justice League: War'

Check out what the Dread Lord of Apokolips will look like in DC's next animated movie.

DC's next animated film, Justice League: War, is inspired by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee's first JUSTICE LEAGUE storyline. If you've read it, then you know the tale revolves around the Justice League battling an invasion from Darkseid. We've had a look at other characters, but now we're getting a first look at the big bad. The cosmic villain will be voiced by Steve Blum, and publicist Gary Miereanu tweeted the first screenshot of the fiend.

Also appearing in the film will be Wonder Woman (Michelle Monaghan), Superman (Alan Tudyk), Batman (Jason O'Mara), Cyborg (Shemar Moore), The Flash (Christopher Gorham), Shazam (Sean Astin), and Green Lantern (Justin Kirk). Yes, Aquaman is absent, however, it's worth pointing out it has been stated Arthur will be the focus of an upcoming animated film. Perhaps 'Throne of Atlantis?'

Directed by Jay Oliva, Justice League: War is scheduled for release early 2014. And in case you missed it, Miereanu also previously provided a first look at Shazam, Wonder Woman, and Batman.

How are you feeling about DC's upcoming animated flick, Viners? Speak your mind below.

wondy's horrible costume?

Awww... he's pissed that they decided that maybe Wonder Woman should show less skin..

Posted by TDK_1997

I can't understand why they change so much the animation from the real artwork. For the Flashpoint Paradox Kubert's style wasn't used at all and the whole animation sucked a lot and the same can be said about this animation.

I don't mind her showing less skin, I just think the costume is very plain and...empty.

I just pray that this is better than Flashpoint. Character designs seem to have improved, thankfully.

I'm looking forward to it. The DC Animated Movies are usually very good. I generally enjoy all of them...Especially the last couple that have been released

Looks badass

Why are the adapting this? This was the worst and most underwhelming JL origin story ever.

Not really a fan of animated movies.

How can you tell the animation is bad if you haven't even seen it in motion yet?

Okay anyone else think that in that if the probability of the next JL film would be Throne of Atlantis that the reason AM isn't here is to set up a situation where the League thinks AM is a threat for being an Atlantean putting him in a position where he has to fight multiple members of the League simultaneously or systematically and win thereby increasing his credibility by leaps and bounds as opposed to showing off his stuff against Apokolips grunts?

Nah probably just wishful thinking.

Yeah, gotta say that I'm really digging the anime/American mix when it comes to the art. As one of the few comic book readers/fans that also loves anime/manga (I seriously don't get what the hate on both sides is about; is it a competition, or something?), I can say that adding that anime flare will do wonders for the animation quality; if you've watched anime like Ghost in the Shell (shows and movies), Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop (show and movie), Trinity Blood, Fullmetal Alchemist (the original and the Brotherhood remake), Attack on Titan, Hunter x Hunter (2011), the Redline movie, The Rebuild Evangelion movies series, the recent Berserk movies, etc. then you know that anime is on top when it comes to animation quality, for the most part. An example of another American cartoon that looks amazing, with the mix of styles, is Legend of Korra; even if you don't like the story, you have to admit that it looks awesome.

A scene Ghost in the Shell: Innocence.

A scene from Rebuild Evangelion 2.22

A scene from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

No Aquaman? Damn, but at least he's getting a solo movie.

Shazam's design is great; he looks older, sure, but like in his early 20s and not like 40yr old man. I think that the effects on his lightning chest piece will be sparking, and what not, when he's engaged in battle; other than that, the lightning will be docile.

Batman and WW look good as well.

So stupid that they left Aquaman out. It doesn't matter if he's the focus of the next movie. They would leave Superman out.

Posted by Vaeternus

lol they dropped Aquaman, all good. I can live without him I suppose. But I do look forward to this based off that arc :)

No Aquaman and Wonder Woman's new look sucks. Not a good first impression.

Posted by AmazingWebHead

No Aquaman, huh? There goes the best part of the story.

Posted by Rellik21

Wonder Woman's new look is awesome.

Arguably the only good part of the story.

On a side note UGH!!! The sleeves on WW...UUUUGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! SLEEEEEEEEVEESSS!!!!!!

when they finally made aquaman cool they cut him out of the new 52 movie LOLOL. Still he was awesome in the flashpoint movie so i expect big things from this one.

Why haven't DC made an animated movie about any of the crisis though or even sinestro corp war come on how can the new 52 get a movie b4 those.

Because DC is trying to distance itself from the old continuity (/promote the new one). They want people to buy the comics & it'd be confusing to the layman if they released an old story on DVD now. They could maybe get away with Batman or GL ones since those worlds didn't change as much - though Sinestro Corps War would be hard because it involved Earth. You could maybe do War of the GL because that was self-contained, but don't expect any of the events you mentioned...well...ever.

im loving the boobless wonder Woman costume

They've already said that they're not gonna stop making Pre-N52 stories, in fact, a movie based on Batman & Son is coming next year.

I happily stand corrected, lol. (Although not totally since it's Batman which hasn't changed much, lol).

The Flashpoint movie was incredible so I can only hope that this meets that same level of quality. I don't mind making some changes since its par for the course in comic book adaptations. Not sure if Steve Blum is a great choice for Darkseid. I'm sure he can pull it off but he's become a but too prevalent in games and cartoons as of late. I'm especially excited to see them give utility and purpose to each member of the team during the action. A lot of the big fights in the book were just gorgeously drawn splash pages that were essentially super powered dog piles instead of fully fleshed out fights. Looking forward to it.

I like the New 52 so, Yeah, I'll try it out. If it's as awesome as it should be I'll definitely buy a copy. I'm curious to see what role Shazam will play in the storyline since he wasn't in the original.

Hopefully, Throne of Atlantis will be next. It would be an ideal way to introduce Aquaman.

This movie is going to be sick I know it will.

Lol Darkseid's nose looks sooooo weird to me. I dunno why.

Posted by entropy_aegis

Darkseid? he looks like the love child of Thanos and Apocalypse.

I'm really disappointed, this is Darkseid's second outing and in both cases they chose 2 of the worst Darkseid stories ever written, now all we need is Countdown to make it a hat rick.

I know we'll never get an adaptation of Orion or Kirby's original work but how about Final Crisis or Great Darkness Saga?

Well they aren't doing this story because they want to do a cool Darkseid story. They are doing this because the animated movies are going to start reflecting the DCNU and this was the inaugural story.

Well, that's character design, not animation.

I hope they keep the Batman disses to a minimum and change the demasking scene of Bruce in front oh Hal. That was so dumb.

"My name is Bruce Wayne."

"Who?"

Hahahahaahahha... great joke Geoff. Give yourself a hand for that great comedic moment. :-I

I also hate douchebag Hal. Man, I am still SO dissapponinted by that story. It should've been great, damn it!

Just... everything you've said. I agree with it wholeheartedly

EDIT: Also, why does Darkseid look like he has massive lips?

Well, this is anime-like art & Darkseid is a man of.....darker complexion.

...that's...terrible.....

i actually really like Wonder Womans costume, it simple yet distinctive

Posted by lightsout

@hart7668: Don't shoot the messenger, lol. No one ever accused Japanese animation of being politically correct (/or even portraying people as anything other than offensive stereotypes of their people).

Steve Blum as Darkseid and Shazam too? My Body is Ready!!!

As someone's already said. No Kevin Conroy? No Tim Daly? What are they thinking? Expect very little from this character's voices, though that's my opinion.

Posted by ALdragon17

I like the ice cream WW :) Anyways, nice look for her and for some reason she could be a Simon Belmont and know she doesn't look like him, but the armor is almost the same. (Super Castlevania VI), yes he's in gold and WW is red, white, and blue. (Lasso of Truth, Vampire Killer Whip) I like it when WW is in the America colors than a global citizen punk diet uniform. One, thing who buys the comic the most, I don't know maybe freaking AMericans!?

Posted by JLDoom

@tdk_1997: Err, no such thing exists. It's character design.

Edited by RedheadedAtrocitus

I'd love to see "Villain's Journey" done after this, if they wanna go all chronologically of course! Definitely excited for this.

Is Wonder Woman going swimming, or going to do yoga, or something?

Posted by cdeoleo

DC animated is so good. I haven't watched the latest ones (dark knight and flash point) but everything else has been gold.

Edited by FoxCircuit101

Anyone else offended Darkseid looks African-American? The League designs are cool. and Sean Astin as Shazam sounds like a fit. But still! why make him resemble an African-American, I'm black and that's bothering me a bit.

... the freaking introduction of Aquaman in this story is one of the most badass intros ever, and it would have done a great job starting the "aquaman's not a bitch like you people seem to think" campaign.

way to go DC. Again.
