Finally, A New New Avenger (Sort Of)

We finally get someone that wasn't actually on the old team.

So far for the "New" Avengers we've seen Luke Cage, Spider-Man and Wolverine. All have been New Avengers already so are they really still "new"? We've been wondering who would be revealed as the next New Avenger. Marvel has released yet another promo.

That's right, looks like Jessica Jones, aka Jewel is going back to the hero biz. It makes sense if her husband is on the team, why shouldn't she? She's already been hanging out with the team. The only question is, who is going to watch their kid?

What do you think so far of this line-up? Why do you think these guys are forming a separate team from Iron Man, Thor, Cap, etc? Will they have the public approval or will they have to continue fighting on their own terms while running from the law (since the day they were born, or at least since the day Danielle Cage was)? Also, should Jessica get a new costume?

We'll hopefully find out these questions in June when New Avengers relaunches with a new #1. It will be brought to us courtesy of Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen.

Snap! Didn't see that coming.

Wish they would have updated her costume, though...or something.

okay now just add Dr. Voodoo, Noh-Varr (why not) and another fresh face (Songbird please ^_^)  and this team won't look to bad

Posted by crimsonspider89

Saw it being her, Ms. Marvel or Mockingbird. No surprise there really. Now, the next two may be some new heroes or something, since they are running out of room.

Dr. Voodoo would be a good addition since Strange was in the old one aswell.

I'd like to see Dare Devil as a New Avenger.

Told you so
Posted by crimsonspider89

Yeah, Daredevil and Iron Fist will probably be one with another character. Maybe Dr. Voodoo.

I see Daredevil being a New Avengers enemy somewhere down the line with his construction of Shadowland and running the Hand.

1. She looks pissed

2. It's cool to really have someone new for a change

3.  Yeah, who IS going to take care of that kid?

Posted by SigersonLTD

I like this one. Of course, it won't make me buy the comic.

Posted by CATMANEXE

I'm not too excited about Bendis manning another Avengers book, but this
does give me hope that Mighty could be looking at a relaunch then in June
as well.

@iLLituracy:
agreed. Daredevil is supposed to be directly opposed to Luke Cage in Shadowland
so its highly unlikely he would be in the roster.

Posted by Archetype

Who'll take care of the kid? Ms.Marvel since she isn't on any Avengers team lol...seriously Jessica's mom probably just like during Civil War.

I'm glad someone different is there even if it is fairly obvious to have her on the team.

Woo Jewel! I'm happy and I don't think she needs a costume redesign. It works for her. I miss the pink hair though.
Posted by Aerik

So angry! I like it.

Posted by CATMANEXE

so...
Avengers The Initiative>Avengers Academy (?)
?>Avengers
Dark Avengers>Secret Avengers
New Avengers>New Avengers
Thunderbolts>Thunderbolts
Mighty> ?

well, so much for " big changes" and condensed titles. lol.

Posted by PrinceIMC

Big changes kinda, condensed titles no. Both make me happy.

You've got people returning to the Avengers after years, people returning to past identities, the founders seemingly back together. Not changes so much as return to status quo but since it has been a number of years that is a change. We'll see how different the teams are going to be from their current versions. They're all independent now, maybe they'll be working together now or at least each have their own raison d'etre.

Seeing Jewel here reinforces my idea that the 'New' in 'New Avengers' means New York. They seem to be the street level New York types while the other Avengers could go anywhere.

"I strive to better myself" ... hmm, that sounds kind of familiar ...

"I try to be my best," anyone? --->

I have no idea who that is

I looooove Amy Acker. And Dollhouse got good just as it was ending, too bad it was a season too late.

I was totally expecting this!

I mean did you read Amazing Spider-Man #601? It had it written all over that Jewel would make a comeback!

No purple hair? :(

@PrinceIMC:
kind of seemed like a reply to my comment, and i got to disagree.
Iron Man, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Bucky, Cap, Hawkeye, Luke Cage, Spider-Woman,
Jessica Jones, Thor, ect. I dont see whats new with that, or whereas they are "returning
after years", unless one hasnt read any Avengers books in years than yeah.lol. this is just
renumbering with a different theme.
Posted by crimsonspider89

@CATMANEXE: Avengers Academy is Young Avengers and Avengers Initiative rolled into one. I agree with you. They seem to have diluted it.

As for roles

Avengers- Big fighter of world level threats
NA- street level fighter
AA- training for new heroes under old heroes. Most likely where Pym will be place.
SA- Black op team most likely led by Steve

Thor's returning after years away from the Avengers, Clint is apparently returning to Hawkeye, Steve, Thor and Tony are gonna be working together again. Some of these members are going to be Avengers and some are going to be New Avengers so there's still no word on who's going to be filling out these two teams, where they're going to be based, their reason for being together and their mission statements. The Avengers teams lately have all been running around randomly lately, I think Heroic Age is going to focus them a bit more. If they really had big changes like not including the popular characters that people want to be Avengers and have been Avengers lately then it wouldn't exactly be a Heroic Age.

@PrinceIMC:
Thor used to be with the Avengers. a change would be if he joined a team he hadnt. he's also been teamed up with them all year now off and on. same with Clint. change was him in the Ronin costume. the same is him in the Hawkeye one. and either way he's been there. many of the official members have already been declared actually, theres a new thread here about this everyday. nothing has changed.
New Avengers is now titled Avengers, Luke is switched out for Thor, and Iron man is back on board.
sorry, im not with you here. this is the same stuff ive been reading since New Avengers #1. i already know
about there new status, which is the same as their status before Dark Reign (1 year ago).
Avenegrs Initiative is now titled differently, and stars the same characters. the New Avengers team is alread
being filled by memebers of the same New Avengers team that was there in the first place.
the books havent been focusing on "random" characters, theyve been focusing on these same ones.
there hasnt been not only a big change, there just hasnt been any. marvel is hyping this to sell books.
nothing more, nothing less.
are you even reading these books?
Posted by TheMess1428

Which team is Bucky Cap on? If Steve Cap is on the regular Avengers, is Bucky on the New Avengers? Maybe that is why there are two teams... Steve's team and Bucky's team.
Posted by crimsonspider89
@TheMess1428:  Bucky Cap is on the Avengers team and Steve will not be Cap. In Avengers Prime he is shown wearing a new outfit. Looks to be the leader of the Secret Avengers.

@CATMANEXE:  I agree to an extent. Avengers looks to be a lot of the classic Avengers on a team with New just being the same thing.

First we get an uninteresting character that Bendis has been shoving in our faces for years now. Now we get his uninteresting wife...

Thor hasn't been with the Avengers since Disassembled which was what 7 years ago? He's been seen with Steve and Tony but not the Avengers. Clint Barton hasn't been Hawkeye since Disassembled which again was 7 years ago. He's been there yes but it is a change to him to change back to his previous identity. Change doesn't just mean no previous Avengers and all new members who haven't been Avengers before. Tony's been on the run since Osborn took over, Cap's been dead, Hank Pym's been running his team of Avengers (none of whom have been announced as Avengers in the heroic age that I've seen). How do you know that its going to be the same just because it has the same characters? The X-Men are very different since they moved to California though they had the same members.

For the past few years they've been fighting amongst themselves, aliens and Osborn's forces. After Seige that isn't going to be the case, they get to be heroes again. I didnt say random characters I said they've been running around randomly, how many headquarters have they had? They're on the run. That's going to change. An Avengers roster is around 7 or 8 members, for each team they've announced 5 right? They still haven't said who the Secret Avengers are and I don't remember anything official about who's going to be in the Avengers Academy, where it'll be, who's in charge other than theories. It seems the main Avengers are going to go back to a pre-Disassembled state, which may not be a huge change over the whole of Avengers history but is a change since the past few years.

I guess I'm just seeing how things can be different and you're just seeing what apparently isn't changing.

This makes sense.  I didn't feel too shocked when the news came out that Jessica was on the team.  I for one wouldn't mind seeing her get a new costume and name change.  I think it would be cool if she did something similar to Cage and went by her name with more of a civilian look.

No,she was a New Avenger until the end of Secret Invasion. She's disappeared and none of the Avengers cared...And apparently Marvel doesn't care either because a whole event passed and they still have yet to mention at least where she is.

Be happy, at least in your imagination you now have th one time oppurtunity to hope where it is :D

Or she might end up as a secret plot device, maybe even... red she-hulk? LOL

Not that I'm complaining, but I thought that with this Heroic Age, they were going to bring it back to 1 Avengers team. You know, simplify things. They were talking about how Disassembled was the splitting of Avengers and in the end of all these events, it was them reuniting. With Avengers, Secret Avengers, more New Avengers, and Avengers Academy, it kind of takes away from the all important return of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, in my opinion. The Avengers concept has become saturated.

I'm still a fan of the books, the stories, and the heroes, I just thought that after Siege, they were going back to basics by having 1 Avengers team. And I guess Luke Cage will be in New Avengers and Thunderbolts?

I think a lot of people hoped that would happen.  I actually hoped that the Avengers would boil down to one title and then be similar to Amazing Spider-Man and come out on a weekly basis.  I bet when all is said and done everyone could have been on one big team, like we've seen with The Justice League or Justice Society.

Cage being the leader of New Avengers and Thunderbolts is both awesome and confusing at the same time.
Posted by crimsonspider89

I don't think Cage will be the leader of both teams. I think someone else will be the leader of NA or hope so.

I love the current New Avengers series, it's had it problems, but it's still good. I wish they wouldn't go back to #1, what's the point of that? Why not just keep going from issue 64? Still, I like Jessic Jones, I'm glad to see Bendis doing more with her.
