Final Two Return Of Bruce Wayne Covers Revealed

Will Bruce return as Batman?

No Caption Provided
We've slowly been getting glimpses to the covers of The Return Of Bruce Wayne six issue mini-series.  DC's The Source has unveiled the sketch versions of the final two covers by the awesome Andy Kubert.

The cover to issue #5 (seen above) shows Bruce in a noir-like setting. He reminds me a little of The Question. My question is, where did he buy that Bat-vest?

As we've seen the images of Bruce making his way through time to return to the present day, one of the questions on my mind (and probably yours) is what will this mean for the Bat-universe? When Bruce returns, is he going back to wearing the Bat-cowl? Is Dick going to simply step down (if he doesn't get killed first)? Dick's been having fun dressing as Batman lately. Can he go back to Nightwing since Christopher Kent is using that name?

Looking at the cover to issue #6, we may have part of that answer:

Looks like Bruce will be getting right back into the action. This is good news, in my opinion. I'm sure there will be some saying it's too soon. We all knew he was coming back, right? We saw him in that cave at the end of Final Crisis. Why put it off longer than necessary. But knowing Grant Morrison, I have a feeling his return won't be that easy.  What do you think about this?

What this guy asked ^!!!! lol

It would be crazy is he winds up encountering his folks and even witnesses the whole thing all over again with a chance to intervene or not...knowing Bruce, it would put his feelings vs. what's logical. If he were to interfere, he(Batman) may never exist...he'll be a whole new person.

I just think that would be a cool storyline thing they can take given the era...depends I guess.

It sounds a like a reboot of the Bruce Wayne/Batman story.  As in, this is a way for them to start over and fix any continuity errors, etc, that may be present.  I like it.  Maybe we will get a new "Year One" type retelling.

I hope he doesn't take the cowl back from Dick.  I am enjoying whats happening with that character.

Shame on Morrison for not doing a Victorian era Batman! Just like R.I.P was the journey that destroyed the bat in a psychological sense and Final Crisis did the same when it came to his body, return is described as Morrison to be the journey that reminds Bruce not only why he became Batman but how to be Batman.

How best to remember how to be a detective than with the greatest detective of all time?

I don't know what will happen but I cannot wait, the Batman and his family have always been my favorites in the DC Universe.

I hope he takes his sweet time getting back. I like Dick, honstly prefer him as a character but that's beside da point, an am enjoying him and Damien interacting. So I think i'll enjoy that extra year of stories that Morrison has said he's got planned b4 we return to the same old status quo. An i wonder where that will leave Dick n Damien? Nightwing is being used by someone for it's original intended purpose, Damian n Bruce working together does not sound like something i wanna read. An Robin's already kinda moved on...we'll see right? Maybe they'll pull a Flash on us.

The covers look awesome. But there is a little thing I don't understand. I thought the Omega Sanction sent you into a loop of worse-than-the-previous lives, not actually back in time. As if it was something "self-contained". At least, that was what Mister Miracle experienced in Seven Soldiers, I think.

Oh man! I'll admit that I wasn't really impressed by the first covers, the caveman thing I can't help but find a little silly. Though I can't really complain (per se) about how Bruce is coming back, just so long as he's coming back. But these...I think these just sold me on the whole series. These covers are freaking amazing. I adore the detective noir 1930's cover.

The art sure looks great, but I'm not really sure how the plot they hint at will unveil. I'm afraid Bruce is going to just pop into an era, meet some guys bash some skulls in and then...oh oh back to the future, I got to get going! If there's one thing that can ruin his return, that's the plot being half-assed. But given DC's recent track record with Blackest Night it can also be really, really good. I for one, cannot wait to see the outcome. Spring's gonna bring us a lot of good comics(and movies).

So, in an era when people are actually taking pictures, he is maskless with a hat and a tuxedo ? Strange.
I was expecting something more like a batsuit from the thirties than a civilian PI, but it is still awesome !

I would love to see him come back as The Batman, but I hope they don't kill Dick. Someone actually killing him might push a former lost in time bruce over the edge.

Yes PI Batman looks cool. Now there was also a rumored "Search For Bruce Wayne" series as well after Return and Grant Morrison said he has a year left of Dick and Damian stories left so even though we are getting the covers now it might be a while before Bruce is Batman again. Also Return of Bruce Wayne was originally announced to be in April but DC's comics for that month don't list it http://dccomics.com/dcu/comics/?dat=20100407    so we may just be looking at a far future (also only Chris Sprouse and Frasier Irving were said to do issue no other artists have been said).

I think the noir setting is interesting because that means he'll be in a time period where his parents would be alive (how old they'd be at the time,  I'm not sure).
