Favorite Comic Runs: Jason Aaron's THOR: GOD OF THUNDER vs. WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN

Snikt or for Asgard?!

Welcome to the Favorite Comic Runs' spotlight, Jason Aaron!

The writer has quite a body of work with Marvel, but this week, we want to give praise to two of his most popular (and recent) works: WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN and THOR: GOD OF THUNDER. The X-Men story followed the aftermath of SCHISM -- another storyline Aaron wrote -- and ran for over 40 issues. This run saw the creation of a new school for new mutants, a brand new Hellfire Club, and, of course, focused on Wolverine as the school's headmaster and its students. Aaron's spent roughly half as many issues with the son of Odin, but during that time, he's dished out some massive stories that involve a character seeking to destroy all Gods, Malekith's rise to power, and now the fate of Midgard. Both series' have their own strengths, but if you had to pick one, which would it be and why?

As always, voting will remain open until Friday morning (ET). If you haven't given either a shot, this should give you more than enough time to pick up a trade or two and make up your mind. Additionally, we encourage you to speak up after you cast your vote. Why bother, you ask? Because we'll include two exceptional posts in the results article (which is posted on Friday). One will be selected for each story, so don't forget to elaborate after picking one!

Last but not least, everyone say "you're the best around" to the Comic Viner The_Tree. Why bother giving this person your blind praise? Because The_Tree was the very first person to guess this week's match-up based on the small teaser we provided in Friday's article. Well done, The_Tree!

Check the homepage on Friday to see which story won and why. In the meantime, feel free to make future match-up suggestions in the comments below or via Twitter.

I've heard great things about Aaron's Thor, but loved W&tXM for way too long. 1-8 are great (Bachalo FTW for the first bit!) and #17 too, but it kind of petered out...

I've yet to read Wolverine and the X-men, but I have been a fan of Wolverine. Now Thor, I never really had any interest in or cared for. But Thor: God of Thunder is just....wow. I'm reading and enjoying a book about a character I had no interest in before at all. I love Old Thor!

I will give the devil it's due, but when Wolverine and The x-men concept was introduced I almost threw up because I hated the idea so much, but it turned out to be a pretty decent run. But Thor really just knocked it out of the park, one of the bright spots for the Marvel Now launch

Haven't read Thor yet, but WatXM gave us the Hellfire Brats, so Thor.

Punisher Max actually is my favourite Jason Aaron Marvel Comics run. I put it above Thor and Wolverine & The X-Men.

@kevinwalsh: Beat me too that second pic. I say Thor :GOT because I haven't enjoyed Thor this much since his straczynski run. Wolverine and the X-men had 4 issues total that I really enjoyed. Too much X-men filler. but Jason Aaron can do both tones well.

Oh crap no competition at all Thor God of Thunder. That comic is amazing all around and made me care for a character that i didn't for outside the movie (still my least favorite Avengers in the movies though i like Hawkeye more then him and movie Hawkeye had no personality or well lines) Wolverine and the X-Men i'v read a few issues and well i think it's crap. Has the stupid plot of an animated kids show but with more blood and sexual themes. I forget what issues i've read but there's like a boring pink haired dude and some guy with snot power. There's Toad as a janitor or something. The kids were evil and betrayed them or something but then two kids betrayed the main kid idk it was stupid.

As a biased Wolvie fan that run was horrible, I did not enjoy WatXM at all and believe me I tried. So T:GoT takes this easily.

Thor: God of Thunder is one of the best comics I've read, Wolverine and the X-Men is one of worst runs of the X-Men IMO, so Thor stomps for me.

Oh come on you couldn't have chosen one of Aaron's past series to go up against GoT? WatX was more of a fun, zany book while GoT was just amazing beyond a doubt. One of Marvel Now's best series

I thought Wolverine and the X-Men was absolutely terrible. I didn't find any of the new characters exciting and the stories never built to anything.

I feel this comparison is a bit hasty: Thor: God of Thunder is still ongoing, and Wolverine and the X-Men didn't even end 6 months ago. I feel like a little bit more hindsight would be better, at least for future versions of this column.

That said, the two are both great, albeit very different. I'll give God of Thunder a slight edge, if only because it got me to actually like Thor (who, previously, I found insufferably boring).

Thor! You have to really enjoy the crazy, quirky school setting of Wolverine and The X-Men to read the book. Thor seems like it could be more fun for anyone.

Lol this is a curb stomp beyond description!

wolverine and the x-men is fun, but thor god of thunder specifically the god butcher & god bomb arcs are IMO one of the greatest comic book storylines ever written or drawn.
