Fall Of The New Mutants Is Coming

They're mutants so that means no happy times.

This is kind of funny that Marvel released a teaser for Fall of the New Mutants. Not funny in that I want to see the New Mutants face some more hard times. Yesterday I was actually going through my old box of Uncanny X-Men comics (for a future 3-Minute Expert video) and reminisced over old storylines like the original Fall of the Mutants.

No word on the specifics of the coming tragedy the New Mutants will be facing. I suppose you can say they have it coming. They do want to be "X-Men" so it's only fair that they'll get the same crap thrown at them.

It sure is hard to be a mutant in the Marvel Universe. Where are all the good times? They'll barely be over Second Coming and now this is happening.

It all begins in New Mutants #15 written by Zeb Wells with art by Leondard Kirk on July 21, 2010. Stay tuned for more information.

seems marvel wants to kill or badly injure all people connected to the xmen this year then,  like the  refrence to original  fall of mutants thou

I love reading the new mutants, and i'm going to get this for sure.

Is there really "good times" for the X-men?

Posted by jamdown

Well at least they are not turning into vampiers

You can't call yourself an X-Man if you haven't died at least once. It's a job requirement.

It looks like all the new mutants will be surviving second coming

They had a lot thrown at them lately.  Kidnap, severe beatings, embarrassing fights against pathetic Savage Land mutates, and not to mention dismemberment...

But, it's taken so long to bring the team back together (especially with Doug & Warlock) that it would be strange to see them ripped apart again so soon.

It's been an okay title so far.  This definitely feels like the old team, but it has conveniently forgotten certain power & psychological improvements in the characters since the original series.  Worse yet, the art has been inconsistent; ranging between nothing special & mediocre to experimental.  Visually it has been more unstable than the characters, or the open-ended plots.   Like I say, it's been 'okay' at best.  Not bad, not great, and far over-shadowed by the work in X-Force (and sometimes Legacy).

But a play on the 'Fall of the Mutants'?  The story where Doug was killed?  This had better be worthy of the name.

All the New Mutants (except for Sunspot) were killed by the Beyonder during the Secret Wars II cross-over.  Does this mean that it's Sunspot's turn...?

What happened to the Heroic Age? I was looking forward to some lighthearted mutant mayhem, seriously man, give em a break!

I wouldn't like to be a mutant these days.

not looking forward to this storyline ..at all! D:
I just got my new mutants back and now this event is happening! Marvel what the hell are you doing to my favourite team!!!!!

Posted by Timm

this is yet another replay of a previously existing storyline. have they no new ideas except to kill characters? Marvel really needs to hire some writers besides Bendis.

So much for the Heroic Age. The Marvel Universe is taking a giant dump on the X-Men...poor muties. Can't say I'm not intrigued though.

We had Infernus in the past, now The Fall of New Mutants. What's next?

Cannonball and Moonstar are two of the most under used heroes at Marvel.

Can't wait for this!

When it rains it pours. Dang!

It does seem like the Heroic Age thing is going to be a hard sell for the X-titles. The X-People in general have not been having an easy time of it since House of M/Decimation. I can't picture that turning around any time soon.

I agree with the Cannonball part, don't know to much about Moonstar.  Has Cannonball used the ability he did when the beat Gladiator ever again.  Storing the kinetic energy used on him and expelled it thru punching.

Well, Kitty Pryde just returned... but she can't touch anybody.
Um how about, Hope was reunited with the X-Men... but it cost Nightcrawler's life.

I'll shut up now...

I don't think the mutants had any time off since they first appeared.

Bendis doesn't even have anything to do with this.

I hear that...I wish they would leave the dark stuff to X-Force and a lil in X-Factor.I'm not for going the total opposite way and I realize that mutants have always been on the outside of things but come on are they doing this just to set up a "mutant event/crossover" where a lot of formerly depowered people become powered once more because if there isn't a silver lining to all this then I will be disappointed.Either lighten up or do something to make the X-Men fun again I'm tired to death of all the mutant deaths.

Sorry, but that's slightly contradictory.  You want Grant Morrison's high standards of story-telling, but you also want it to be light-hearted?  Morrison was the one who made it fashionable to be dark.

But I do agree... we desperately need something more relaxed.  More than just a few pages of a baseball game before the next enemy attacks... something to remind readers that even mutants have social lives, hobbies & downtime.  It can't always be a mad fight for survival.

Seems like the mutant community really doesn't get chance for a breather these days.

Posted by kerukun878

.....

One of them is going to die. I can feel it.

I hope it's not Amara.

Shan's been through enough.

Doug just got back

Cannonball is likely to stay leader

That brings me to Illyana, Moonstar, and Bobby. These three have the highest chance of biting it. Illyana maybe not, but Sam and Dani, definitely. Dani is depowered, and thus is pretty vulnerable. And fnally, we get to Bobby. The only New Mutant in this team who HASN'T died. It's likely to be him.

OH

And I hope that they add Tabby to this team soon. We need some carefree. >.>

its good to see someone understand what i am saying underneath my resentful remarks (besides Ryon).
you have earned my respect, Xerox and my twitter-follow. you already had my admiration.

@Timm: Ooooh, now I know who's following me on Twitter :)

The original New Mutants used to have a lot of 'downtime'.  I remember them hanging around the Mansion or the local mall all the time.  Even when Warlock arrived, it was in the middle of a girl's sleep over.  Not to mention all the movies (and Magnum PI) they used to watch together.

The Uncanny X-Men would have the occasional baseball game, but it would soon be interrupted with news of the latest enemy attack.  I know I've yet to catch up on a few years when I stopped buying comics... but the last time I remember an X-Men baseball game was when Joe Madureira was still on art chores, and Marrow returned to Earth-616 leading Gene Nation.  That's gotta be nearly 10 years ago now... We're well over due some 'normal people time'.

Fall of the New Mutants is going to be Magik's major role in it because Limbo and the Bloodstones will be involve in it. From the solicits I've read, "Project Purgatory" was mentioned so i would assume the Paramilitary that was seen in New Mutants #9 series 3 wants to release the Elder Gods.

Love the title of this story arc. A very nice reference to a classic story.

downtime has always been crucial to telling the story of "who they are" and drawing your readers in to the characters. I didn't give a damn about Hope or her storyline. i really didn't. but on the other side of character development, when they killed Nightcrawler i could've strangled somebody. my  wife made me go take a walk. when they killed off ultimate X-men i threw the book across the room. i was stressed out for like a month after Conquest smashed Atom Eve in Invincible. i haven't felt that connected to any of the new X-men characters or storylinessince district X (a storyline which they destroyed). i wish i had been coerced into feeling connected.
Posted by xerox_kitty
@Timm: Wow!  I'm impressed your wife doesn't ban comics at home ;)  Seriously though, I have to agree.  While I know that the whole pressing theme of the X-Men lately is 'extinction of the species', it really wears you down to read more deaths of beloved characters.  They may be fictional, but we love them... and in a daft way, we have to grieve for them without making it obvious that we're choked up over fictional characters.

So I just hope this Fall of the New Mutants wont be as tragic as the name implies.

@xerox-kitty: i think Marvel thinks they're trimming the fat and/or making way for revamped versions of old favorite characcters, but really all they're doing is ruining a rich history and deleting mis-used and more experienced characters.
Posted by unicornpuncher

I was pretty excited for the New Mutants to return but think bringing back doug and cypher was totally lame.  They were like the only people in the Marvel U that ever stayed dead other than Thurderbird's brother.

That being said, i'm hoping this stoyline gives gives some solid art and a story arc to the New Mutants title.  Up till now it's mainly seemed to be crossovers.

And X3 on the Adding boomer to the team.  I always felt she was underused.  They started using her twords the end of x-force when she became meltdown, but then she dissappeared until she came back with nextwave as a joke.

I know about Sam, Doug and Lock, but when did all the others die?  Karma, Illyana, Dani?

I'm so hoping it's Danielle. I will be incredibly happy if it's her.
